    I have four trees (2 Hosui and 2 Shinseiko) and have rust issues as yell. First few years all leaves and fruits were perfect and blemish free. Then years after the leaves and fruits had blemishes. Each year I get hundreds of fruits.

    I've had 20th Century Asian Pear trees for years. I have never had a single fruit develop. It flowers like crazy, makes plenty of 1 inch diameter fruits, then drops every single one. Probably going to dig trees up and cut my expensive loses.

      @@themunchieman5696 Good luck and enjoy! Most big box places like Home Depot and Lowe's will not carry Asian pear fruit trees so you need to buy online. But keep it mind it can get pricey around $200. Better to ask people for cuttings and take some nodes off the cuttings and graft to existing pear tree.

    • @Foodie_888
      @Foodie_888 3 года назад +1

      @@themunchieman5696 You can graft anytime. Just get rid of the leaves and fruits from the nodes if they came already. After you graft the node, make sure the cambium layers touch and wrap with saran wrap to create humidity. It should take after 20 days or so.

    • @KhangStarr
      @KhangStarr  Год назад +1

      If the pears bloom at same time, it will work as pollinator, but you don’t have to worry, hosui self-pollinates. As for fruiting, it depends on the Size you get from what you ordered. I bought my Shinko at Home Depot and it fruited first year. The tree was big.

      @@asondareyes5482 If your soil is hard clay, you can make mini raised beds and the organic material will penetrate the clay and improve it over time along with gypsum. Hardwood wood chips can break down into soil in less than two years. I also read Bartlett will pollinate most Asian pears depending upon the bloom cycle.. I'm getting several Asian pear trees soon to compliment Ayers & Moonglow European types (I'm in Virginia).

    Asian pear trees grow very fast. Unfortunately it flowers to early and many insects are not ready to pollinate it. Another problem is other pears also do not flower so early and Asian pear trees need cross pollination.

    What kind of fertilizer do u give them and how often ? I just purchased a 20th century ultra dwarf plant as I have a small backyard and planning to grow in large container, not sure if it’s a good idea to grow it in container, what would u suggest?

    • @heavymechanic2
      @heavymechanic2 Год назад

      Hi dolly, the problem with containers is the soil gets worn out and you need to replenish the nutrients with some compost every year by removing a few inches of soil from the container. I have good luck topdressing with Black Kow and some calcium in addition to adding nutrients.. I like to use Vigoro Citrus & Avocado plant food from Home Depot, is has micronutrients added to 6-4-6 and works well on everything in your garden (with directions for containers). If you prefer organic fertilizer, most of them are chicken litter, feathers and related waste products.. With most trees, you feed at bud break and after fruit set (6 wks later), I don't know anything about ultra dwarf size trees.
