Excellent video...thank you so much! I’m convinced that the ‘ghost’ who suddenly appears around 10.48 is actually one of the original founders of the tramway collection from the 1950s paying a friendly visit!. As far as I know...no visitor has paid the full price for stepping out in front of a tram! Around 1957 my late father took myself and my brothers up from Whatstandwell (we were staying in an old Midland Pullman camping coach, off its wheels, parked in a field by the river Derwent just off the A6. Dad walked us up the hill to see the Sherwood Forester’s lighthouse monument commemorating all those lost in the ‘Great War’ . Living in Southampton next to the Solent, my brothers and I wondered about a lighthouse so far from the sea! Dad then took us to see one of the very first trams in their tramway collection (from Southampton) that had been rescued from a trip to the scrapyard (a number of Soton trams were dumped on allotments between Deacon Road near Bitterne and the Elephant and Castle pub in the mid 1950s). Dad showed us the tram running, utilising towing a trailer stacked with traction batteries! This was before they’d rigged overhead wires up. Every time we returned to see relatives in and around Whatstandwell we always went to see how the tramway museum was doing. Unfortunately, the next door quarry reopened to provide stone for the M1 motorway and the dust it caused was a real pain. However, the Tramway survived the dust onslaught and now thrives. As a Derby man my late Dad was delighted to see the old Derby Assembly Rooms facade re-erected at what is now the tramway village. Thank you for the excellent video and also to everyone who works so hard to keep this remarkable collecting in working order. I must visit again sometime! Rob.

Its amazing how something as simple as watching a video can bring all those wonderful memories flooding back. I am so glad this video managed to do that for you. It certainly is nice to go back to ' The good old days ' once in a while.

What a great collection of trams they have, can't believe that I still haven't managed to visit there yet. Nice cameo appearance by that ghost at 11:45 !:-)

Those trams are so beautiful; from the ornate Victorian metalwork to the more elegant designs of the 30s-60s....and then there's the lump, which looks as though the back ends of 2 double-deckers have been put together. The liveries are so nice apart from
