Haven’t even seen the documentary yet, but I’m already feeling emotional! Can’t wait! Thank you Tony and thank you Jason and especially a huge thank you to Sam obviously making something special and honourful!
...and saw it - IT WAS INCREDIBLE! Thank you Tony for opening up like that, and huge thanks to everyone involved, everyone's perspective gave so much depth!
Honest men with integrity sharing their passion of skating. Thank you for sharing yourselves with us..you all are solid. Wishing Tony the best recovery, Sam...I can't wait to see the doc, and Jason, you are kind of friend everyone should have.
No one has more tenacity than Tony Hawk. Love the depth of emotion and pure commitment to his craft that really shined through esp this and the episode they did following the injury. Jason is so supportive and loyal and what a babe. Love this friendship and how he is fiercely protective of Tony. When he was talking about the doc being “dark”, I gathered from it that he was being protective of Tony’s image and legacy and then the filmmaker explained more about his intention and some of the directorial decisions he made (like having everyone come away with their own thoughts instead of feeding it to them) ❤️ Love to Ellis mate and Birdman, you’ll be back on that board in no time. Excellent diy w the stilettos and the grip tape too btw. Wonderful episode. Thank you for being so transparent and candid with us and thank you for your time and effort with the pod.
Gotta give props to Sam Jones too for funding this film and being so committed to getting this made and staying true to the reality, Tony’s life/name and to representing skateboarding authentically, regardless of the challenges and roadblocks he came up against. Can’t wait to see it!
The bones brigade movie was a constant in my VCR growing up. That movie was my childhood and i had a huge appreciation for Tony and the whole crew. Rodney Mullen and Tony to me are the pinnacle of the sport and industry.
I’m with Ellis, intervention? For skateboarding? And it’s Tony Hawk. I’m offended and pissed. Love you guys. This podcast is amazing. I love skateboarding 🛹
The doc hits hard to every aging skateboarder. Skateboarding changed us in ways we don't understand or can even communicate to a non-skateboarder. We don't see our "self-destructive" activities as self-destructive. We see them as part of life. Part of what makes us who we are. As a 48 year old guy, I see myself getting hurt more, slowing down, taking longer to heal, society telling us to slow down. But why? "Until the wheels fall off" is a perfect phrase for how we feel.
That's the thing that Stacey has backwards. This man has lived a full life, and is fully (or mostly) capable of making conscious decisions. Whereas 11 and 12 year old kids aren't fully developed. Sure you heal faster, but a TBI can end the trajectory or a child's life, no chance of career or family... shouldn't he be concerned about all the younger ones if you're going to be concerned about skaters? Tony's not out there concussing himself daily, and he understands the risks. Any rate, love Stacey, love Tony, way to go on the doc. It had me fist pumping, laughing and tearing up. So, total win.
This Sam Jones is the guy to make this doc for sure. Glad to see someone who really put in the work to tell the story in a way that skaters and everyone can learn from and I'm betting it's gonna hit us all in the feels.
Tony you are & have been a true inspiration. When you continue to be on your board through your recovery we will all look forward to watching you be you. Don’t stop and it won’t stop.. keep rolling while you can & enjoy the little things along the way. ❤️ from Mississippi 🥷🏼🛹🦅
Watched the doc last night and LOVED IT! Starting to skate in the early 90's left me in a love/hate relationship with Tony and vert skating in general. I'm glad to have transcended that and achieve the idea that skating is skating; stoke is stoke. The Tony Hawk Foundation helped build a park in my home town. No words can express the gratitude I have for the impact you have had on skating, Tony. Thank you for being you.
just finished the doc, its seriously one of the best docs ive ever seen it was such a good insight into the ups n downs of skateboarding and tony's career, so glad they interviewed rodney he articulates things on another level, made me tear up at parts and laugh at others def worth the watch!!!
Unbelievable documentary, so much new footage I've never seen after following for YEARS ! and a complete side of Tony I've never knew of . Thanks Tony 🙏
Hey Jason, and Tony, I was wondering if either of y’all ever heard of getaway skate park in Huntsville Alabama? They are reconstructing portions of it and building a huge new skate park in Huntsville. Would be awesome if y’all made a visit there sometime after it opens!
Great interview, only thing Sam got wrong was when he tried to compare (or rather separate) the fear of public speaking with the fear of dropping in. They are one in the same, dropping in has more physical implications, but physical implications aren't necessarily scarier than mental ones. Anxiety is real, and sometimes debilitating anxiety isn't even triggered by any real danger.
My favorite quote on pressure is from Australian cricketer and WW2 veteran Keith Miller - When asked many years later by Michael Parkinson, about pressure in cricket, Miller responded: "Pressure is a Messerschmitt up your arse, playing cricket is not".
@TonyHawk. What were the specs of the Del Mar key hole? 9’ radius plus 6” of vert. I had a friend that built a ramp to these specs to mirror the key hole. How did Lester and Christian do 8’ plus airs with only 6” of vert? Who knows all of the details of the key hole dimensions. Grant? Will some one ever re build this bowl? I guess the design is not all that appealing for the new parks. Grant would be a great guest for hawk v wolf
I relate to the knocking yourself out and wanting to just not hang up on that again finger and destroyed my arms I've gone back and learned these tricks that I ate it on
Did tony do the frontside 540 before Mike did the McTwist? I know units were around before either and I heard Tony turned a unit into a front 5 before a McTwist.
From day one Tony has skated for himself. Bottom line Most of us love and respect what he has done, does, and will do. What else can I type Birdman is Hardcore. On the Board or Off skateboarding needs Him. The Ups the Downs the Success the Failures the Willingness to Dedicate Life to a Toy. Play Forever Legends. I love stepping on my board in 2022 and going back to 1984 skating barefoot as a 7 year old. Thanks Tony and Jason and the Rest of the Team that brings Us Hawk vs Wolf.
Stacy obviously cares about Tony, but he had given up skating at anything like a high level before he was even 30. I never had a skate career, but skating steady for almost 40 years (at a high level for me), that continuity informs our perception of possible, normal and acceptable risk in a way that people who haven't put in that time can't be expected to understand.
Your body talk is cool but my opinion at 22 I got In a bad car accident and hit by a train and lived and none of it was my fault.. left arm got ripped off they put it back on for me though…. It work 50% but hurts everyday man and I can still walk and do normal things kinda hurts everyday but just put that pain deep down and make it move is always been my attitude I am not 42 years old now but keep moving guys and don’t quit thanks for the podcast also it only hurts for a bit and then u will forget it trust me.
Attitude is so much of it. I’m so sorry to hear that you went through this and are still living with the ramifications, esp where it wasn’t your error. That would make me so angry and bitter and would take me a long time to let that go. Life is so precious. Keep feathering it brother 🤍
you had to be skating in the 80s early 90s to know what the original rodny mullen pressure flip looked like. pantera had a 25 year old reunion?! holy shit were all old ass skaters
Do you wish you had kept the trophy for the first competition you won outside Delmar and beat Hosoi? Amazing documentary🤘glad you made the list and 🔥 it keep the PMA thank you Tony for pushing the sport..
I mean Tony did land the 900 when retired...I was one of those people that was in the category of he's done. I still think in right(when it comes to his skateboard career)...that is roll credits
Haven’t even seen the documentary yet, but I’m already feeling emotional! Can’t wait! Thank you Tony and thank you Jason and especially a huge thank you to Sam obviously making something special and honourful!
Holy shit, its Darude!?? 😮

Jason on his best behavior cracks me up.
He looks high AF

What @sweet hart said ^ ^ and said very well ❤
This podcast actually passed the nine club as the first podcast I listen to on Mondays
Can't wait to see the movie/documentary. You guys are moving up in podcast world
The bones brigade movie was a constant in my VCR growing up. That movie was my childhood and i had a huge appreciation for Tony and the whole crew. Rodney Mullen and Tony to me are the pinnacle of the sport and industry.
Doc made me cry. Fantastic job
I’m with Ellis, intervention? For skateboarding? And it’s Tony Hawk. I’m offended and pissed. Love you guys. This podcast is amazing. I love skateboarding 🛹
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE make a 10hr long Directors cut. I'm sure that there are SO many people that would watch it. PS, I loved this film. I need more.
Yeah, I would totally binge a 6-8 episode director's cut series. Are ya listening, Sam Jones?

18:53 Jason is a trip. 😂 He’s the voice of reason in this episode.
Jason is the best, he looks stoned off his ass though lol

This is what the world needs.
No exaggeration, determination, honesty and friendship.
Not shallow, vapid over produced garbage.
Thank you.
This Sam Jones is the guy to make this doc for sure. Glad to see someone who really put in the work to tell the story in a way that skaters and everyone can learn from and I'm betting it's gonna hit us all in the feels.
Can't wait to watch tomorrow. This was a great episode, Sam seems like the nicest dude in the world. Loving this podcast, don't ever stop doing this.
You can feel the passion and electricity of this conversation. Amazing stories, can't wait to watch the documentary

Hey Jason, and Tony, I was wondering if either of y’all ever heard of getaway skate park in Huntsville Alabama? They are reconstructing portions of it and building a huge new skate park in Huntsville. Would be awesome if y’all made a visit there sometime after it opens!
I'm a 50 year old skater, been a fan of your since the first bones brigade videos , and I cannt wait to see this movie
Spoiler : I cried when Duane Peters was like, "Do you know how long it takes to learn tricks like that?" Balling.

I don't think it is a green screen. Rain on the windows. Cars moving in the background.
Lmao
Top notch guys, God bless you all. The documentary was epic, Sam & Eric much obliged for the presentation. It was scintillating.
Great to see great people hanging around together 😄🛹
Even better to see Tony's legs and feet moving like that already. And that cane - pure class.
Very interesting stuff. That should have gone on longer. (bad Jason for calling in)...😅
Best doc of 2022. Really hope same Jones does a Rodney doc.

SHOUT OUT TO RUNE GLIFBERG!!! Tony mentioned him at 39:09.. he just managed to say it before moving on.. well done Tony!
My favorite quote on pressure is from Australian cricketer and WW2 veteran Keith Miller - When asked many years later by Michael Parkinson, about pressure in cricket, Miller responded: "Pressure is a Messerschmitt up your arse, playing cricket is not".
You guys! I didn't know Sam skates. Pretty cool.

C'mon Jason, Warm Leatherette is seminal!
I’m a little bummed we can’t get HBO here in Australia to see the documentary. 😞
VPN
"Rodney speaks the mantra of skateboarding"
Took me forever to figure out who Sam sounds EXACTLY like. It's UFC fighter Dominic Cruz. They have the exact same voice.
Love hawk wolf
awesome episode!
Hell yeah!
