    I think that in this case, Apollyon and the Order of Horkos are right. Not ethically right, but practically. Every single time peace comes to Heathmoor, it ends up ruined somehow. Calamity, possibly caused by "Sylvans." A second one, even. A foreign invasion. In real life, obviously it works a bit differently, but in For Honor I think the Order of Horkos aren't doing the moral thing, they're doing the correct thing.
    Think about it. The only reason they won is because they unified every faction and readied themselves for war, when finally everyone settled down to... what, exactly? Talk? When would the next threat come? In a world where a Roman Centurion can fight alongside a 15th century Gothic knight, all bets are off. Again, they unified warriors of every faction and were willing to unleash alchemical warfare to do it. If the Order of Horkos were to be invaded from somewhere else, they would wipe the floor with them.
    Anyway, that aside, Raven, you have my undying respect for that "sympathy for the devil" bit at the end about post-WW1 Germany. Not enough people understand it that way. One of your best videos yet.

      @@RavenKnightYT I am amazed the way you said this. Yes people can't have war all the time. You want to know why. Because. Maybe at first it's great to fight if that's what warriors were meant to do. But to that I say. If I had to fight non-stop war. In time I would say. I don't want to fight anymore. That's the beauty you Raven brought up.

      The writers not writing beyond heathmore is a stupid reason to excuse warmongering to be prepares for outside forces, when i even in the reality of the game, you can do simple stuff, like sending scouts.
      Defending horkos argument boils down to "war good because it makes us strong for future wars"
      Yeah ... but what if there was no war in the first place? You know? Peace ... you still got plenty of other problems you have to "fight" against then self imposed ones.

    I believe Astrea selected specific year 3 heroes, which made them betray their respective factions and become inducted into the Order of Horkos as Astrea’s generals. The heroes are as followed:
    Erzebet (Female Black Prior)
    Yato (Male Hitokiri)
    Gretar (Male Jormungandr)
    Fu Hou (Female Zhanhu)
    These characters served as the boss fighters during the year 4 season 4 events where you had to use the scythe to permanently kill them

    In my opinion Chimera and horkos are the same groups. Both are fighting for their own egoistic goals, to defeat the other group. And the leaders are the most egoistic of each faction, Holden fights to redeem himself, Astrea wants revenge for apollyon. Both leaders are ignoring the goals both factions are fighting for.
    -both factions are having ONE main leader
    -both factions are using Draconite
    -both factions are at the same strength
    -both factions want to kill eachother
    -both factions are having Harbingers
    -both factions are ruining lives of innocent people
    -the leader of each faction has something to do with Apollyon.
    -both factions are ignoring what draconite does to the world, and their people
    In my opinion they are the same, just the same.

    This is what makes For Honor such a great game. It’s not just a Deadliest Warrior’s fever dream. There’s some nuance and level of depth to it. Sadly, the ignorance of people’s perception, fans or non-fans, has sort of given this game a more underground level of popularity. It’s overshadowed by other games that you could argue didn’t really deserve the recognition such as Last of Us 2. For Honor is a great game, and it isn’t dead. Anyone who says it’s dead is either stoopid, hateful for no reason, ignorant or just haven’t tried the game.

    Very good and thought provoking video as always Raven. I think what could be interesting is if there's a third group that is neutral in this civil war between Horkos & Chimera. A group that just wants the war to end, and sees and understands both sides, but don't believe that their war will do anything. Idk its just a concept. Perhaps the first hero for year 5 could be the leader, or a leader of the neutral group. After all, there are always those who choose not to take sides of anything, and choose to be indifferent about it. But we'll just have to wait and see what happens when year 4 ends and year 5 begins.

    Its intriguing how the horkos are not necessarily evil, just people who want to have a strong and united country, perhaps this is why families are divided, it's just their immediate perspective that differs, but the warmongers who orchestrated the horkos are, it's so manipulative, but also realistic, look at nazi Germany. The ss and Hitler were obviously bad, but that doesn't mean each individual soldier was. To them, they were just defending their home, leaving politics to his betters, he was defending his family, and others who could not defend themselves, and yet evil was still the driving force. In horkos case, its astrea and the warmongers who possibly play with people's patriotism and their love for their home which provide them with followers, followers who aren't necessarily evil, but just want to defend their home. It's so cool when you think about it.

It's a language barrier not between actual words but through interpretation that make everything also nearly impossible to reason with. This game is the only game I've consistently played over the past years and ill admit the story kind of slipped in the background. Yeah, my warden has a similar history. He was actualy fighting alongside apollyon because she saved him from a raid of vikings. He absorved her ideals and when he died he lost himself to the world, still fighting with all his might protecting the weak like she did to him but always trying to bring out their inner wolves like she did to him. When wyvenrdale happened he bacame a pure knight fighting for pace beause his ideals did not got him anywhere. And then came the warmongers and massacred his order. He survived just by pure luck and roamed around almost losing his mind until he finaly understood what the video said. That both sides are not good or evil, weakness and compliance was what brought everythih crumbling down but endless war will just consume everything like wild fire. He understood that there would be always be wolves and sheep and that he would always be a wolf. But the weak need protection, so they can trive,advance the world in ways that he as a warrior never could. So he would fight for moments that they would not need for a wolf but he would never let his fangs get dull again.Now he was more like a lion that protect his people and his holdj against other predators. But would never get complacent or weak again.(Sorry, i realy like to crest this mini stories so i got a bit exited and did a larger text than what i expected XD)

      @@austinwilbanks9582 Oh you know it man. I've studied war history since I was 5 years old. The Civil War (or as my grandpa calls it "The War of Northern Agression" was certainly not just about "freeing slaves." No Union soldier signed up because he cared about slaves and freeing them. Abraham Lincoln wasn't sweating awake at night wondering how the slaves were doing. The Northern states were mostly industrial and factory based and didn't need slaves to run it, but that didn't mean they were champions of the free african americans. In fact, many blacks who escaped up north were treated WORSE by the North. The Emancipation Proclimation that Lincoln signed is also a joke because it ONLY applied to the southern states which were already succeeding! It was written only to make the European countries (who were doing trade with the south and were considering helping them out) back off. He knew Europe wouldn't want to join forced with a nation of slave owners, so he took the moral high ground by stating to the world "WE DON'T LIKE SLAVES, AND THE SOUTH DOES!" And so the Europeans said "Well if that's the case, we'll stay out of this one."
      A lot of what we hear about the Civil War in school is that the South wanted to keep their slaves because they're racist and the North wanted to free the slaves. And that stupidity still exists today when people say "you're from the south, so that makes you racist." Dude, I'm a South Carolinian, but some of my best friends and coworkers are black. In fact, I find we're LESS racist around here than northern states most of the time.
      Final point and I'll get off my soapbox: History is often written by the victors. The North won the war so they got to spin the narrative how they like. But the truth is that slavery, while a key factor in the war, was not the sole reason. Those that think it is need to read up some more history.

    1. There were other factions that survived aside from the main 3, just look at the Highlander and the Romans that came from the settling dust, and now the Outlanders that are coming from across the horizon. Sure, most of them settled with the main 3, but they're still their own thing.
    2. Other technologies CAN be cultivated during war times. The computer(or it's forefather, I should say) was a WW2 invention with Alan Turing if I remember right. For an in-game equivalent you could look at Zahn-hu(?) And his gunpowder discovery and application into fireworks and the Pirate's pistol.

    • @RavenKnightYT
      @RavenKnightYT  2 года назад +2

      It's fair, you don't have to agree with me, but I do want to address your two points.
      1.) Even if there are other factions beside the main three, they clearly were not strong enough or independent enough to be their own thing for long. Highlanders NEEDED to ally with the Vikings. Centurion and Gladiator NEEDED to ally with the Knights. If they were strong enough and independant enough to be their own thing, no alliance would be necessary. And I made this video BEFORE the Outlanders, so you can't really blame me for not including them.
      2.) Firstly, the Turing machine was invented in 1936. WWII began in 1939. It was not a war time invention. Secondly, you use gunpowder as evidence of a wartime invention, but as I said in the video, the only inventions that will ever be made in wartime are weapons of war. And what was Zhanhu using the gunpowder for if not a weapon? Thirdly, While it is true that, historically, some inventions are made during wartime, the difference is that if a war is going on in Europe, it's easier for Americans or Asians to invent something when they are no where near the fighting. But in For Honor, all the factions are constantly at war with battles raging just within their territories. It's hard to have the time, drive, or resources necessary to invent quality of life devices when your very survival is in the balance.

    When I was in high school, for three years straight I knew people who wholeheartedly believed that ignorance was a horrible thing
    Then I went to a Native Studies class in my last year of high school and my teacher said this; “Ignorance isn’t a bad thing, it’s just something that should be acknowledged, if you don’t know something, don’t act on it until you do know more about it”
    She was white as could be and got no complaints from the teacher there who was First Nations because this YOUNG WHITE WOMAN, learned everything she taught, she wasn’t ignorant, she wasn’t acting on false information, she wasn’t picking sides, she wasn’t ignorant, she was telling us the history of First Nations people
    The Horkos want war because war makes us stronger, and it keeps us stronger for any upcoming bad things like invading forces (like the Wu Lin) but war doesn’t have to be the solution
    It was still a WAR with the Wu Lin, because the Wu Lin weren’t facing off against rival tribes that were on their own, the Wu Lin were at war with all forces of Heathmoor, the unified forces of Ashfeld Knights, Myre Samurai and Valkenheim Vikings, but the issue here is that if those forces were unified, they should’ve been capable of dealing with the Wu Lin and sending the invading forces packing
    The issue is that the powerful forces of the Black Prior, the Hitokiri, the Jormungandr and the Zhanhu weren’t ALWAYS ready to go, they had to PREPARE, they were secret weapons that needed to be dusted off when they should’ve been ready as soon as a conflict rose, just like every other warrior from the separate factions
    The Horkos are separating the factions once again, to get them to go to war so that we’re strong, but in the process, we grow stronger by ourselves, meanwhile, Chimera just wants to go back to peace
    A weak unified force, or strong individual forces, those are the choices we have, Chimera wants unity but allows weakness, while Horkos wants strength but denies unity
    Neither side is good nor bad, both are just using very flawed approaches in what the main issue is; staying strong and ready for enemy forces when they come knocking, and a strong unified force is impossible to achieve, because through unity and peace, we grow weak, and through strength and war, we grow divided

    At the end of the day the Knights are the villains in For Hono(u)r so of course the Horkos are the villains after all Gryphon isn't a Knight. Even his default armour is viking.

    • @RavenKnightYT
      @RavenKnightYT  3 года назад +9

      Well...no. Firstly the knights are not the villains of For Honor, but even if they WERE the villains, Horkos is not just made up of knights. There are various other warriors from different factions in it too so.....that isn't even a real point.

    • @torinjones3221
      @torinjones3221 3 года назад

      But they are. Even their minions are knight/western European themed. Yes the occasional non knight hero shows up as horkos like the male jorm, female zian hu etc but the alternate heroes aka the horkos versions are all officially dead killed by chimera heroes. Also every story event has the players fighting for the chimera against the horkos.
      Even horkos carousel portrays the horkos as the villains since your they're executing the zain hu assassin who tried to kill astrea

    Bro you only LOSE manpower and resources in longterm battle. the truce was the PERFECT time to rebuilt because your population isn't focused on fighting (instead of farming or raising children) nonstop fighting with no breaks does not make an army stronger it makes them dead.
    A truce and demilitarizing are entirely different things.

  • @Username-jb2vs

    "War stagnates progress and discovery"? You might want to brush up on history. War creates progress out of necessity to have an edge. There is a saying; 'If you want peace you prepare for war'.

    • @RavenKnightYT
      @RavenKnightYT  3 года назад +5

      You're missing the point. A culture or society constantly under the fires of war will not make advancements in technology, art, discovery, or society. The only advancements that can be made are those dealing in weaponry or armor, and even then they can only be discovered when the fighting stops. During WWII, America was perhaps the first to discover the nuclear bomb because our country, while fighting, was also SAFE from attack. Our society could afford to keep advancing without fear of our soil being attacked or hurt.
      Some greatest ages of discovery in the world were the Industrial Age, the Renaissance, and the Technological Boom of the 90's, all times when the countries in question were at a time of relative peace where their societies could afford to grow and advance culturally. You'll notice that during times of war, the only advancements made are usually ones concerning military strength, not cultural improvement or technological growth.
      Now you might be referring to the Cold War, but considering that the reason it's called the Cold War is because the USSR and America were not actually physically fighting each other, then the fact they were advancing to get an edge makes sense, but neither country was personally under fire or under attack.
      A country that is constantly at war with no breaks, no truces, no periods of rest, will not breed artisans, scientists, and discoveries...they will only breed warriors and blacksmiths with the tools to wage war. That's what Heathmoore is.
      And yes, I know that saying. It's a shortened version of a George Washington quote: "To prepare for war is one of the best ways to preserve peace." It has nothing to do with what your arguing. The saying simply means that a country, during peace time, must be prepared to fight if it wants to maintain peace. Meaning: a good country should train soldiers, make advancements while it can, and gain intel on its enemies. That way they are prepared if war breaks out to fight for peace. That saying does not mean "Even in wartime we're making discoveries to better ourselves."
      But maybe...you should brush up on history.

      @Username-jb2vs 3 года назад

      @@RavenKnightYT I see your point of view and It can certainly be argued on both sides. I would agree cultural advancements wouldn't take place but I want you to do a little google search on all the advancements that came out of war. Velcro is one. Tons other like it that are so common place today you wouldn't even realize. So your correct and incorrect as am I. Now as to who more incorrect I'm not entirely sure I see your point and it holds water. But I know tons of advancements have been made during war minor maybe. Couldn't hold a candle to any enlightened periods of our species history certainly. But advancements non-the-less.
