    So, where is the evidence, or verification, that pumping 500 mil into new housing will actually address homelessness instead of just passing on millions to developers and landlords?

      @ConcernedCitizenPDX 9 месяцев назад +4

      Giving landlords money does not make the renters richer, if people are able to have set mortgage rates but wages increase, they will have more spending money on goods and services which enriches the workers and companies who provide the product/services. Money must move, not sit and rot.

      @@exissfregranve First off I can tell you're very passionate and emotional about this topic which is good for the most part, dont dehumanize people you don't know. Secondly, you and I would both be renting out properties if we had them, passive income is very nice, however the regulations on landlords are not as tough as they should be, I think there should be stricter rent raising caps but its a state by state basis. Which state do you live in?

      It was also only 600 acres worth of housing to be spread among all areas. So some only get 90 acres of which 30% has to be "affordable". It's money laundering at its finest.

  • @dawnanewday9671
    @dawnanewday9671 9 месяцев назад +9

    So why don't we just build 'affordable housing.' Why only 30% deisgnated to be affordable? And you know.....a year later, there will be no affordable housing with these developments. They never stay 'affordable.'

    You have to arrest and then force treatment just like Amsterdam did for heroin otherwise it will not work governor 500 million for housing you could build a prison for the drug use and addiction repeat offenders

    At some point our lawmakers are going to have resolve the issue with how much they tax compared to how much they get for that money. As a state we seem to spend a lot on recovery, homelessness and education but we seem to run at the bottom of the pack for success in any of those categories. I never hear an explanation as to why. It's always "we just need more money, for the kids."

    • @Scroll_Lock
      @Scroll_Lock 9 месяцев назад

      The explanation is the political party that has a stranglehold on this state.

    Stop tearing down family-owned homes and raising rents.

    It would probably help to not hand out food stamp cards and state residency to anyone in America that decides to ride a bus to the state to be allowed to be a drug addict. Tax payers shouldn't have to trade off standards of living to accommodate insanely expensive proposals. A large portion of the addicts floating around Oregon came in from other states.

    • @jimhurt9343
      @jimhurt9343 9 месяцев назад

      Snap benefits are a Federal Program. Every State makes money off of handing out the benefits. Also since it is a Federal benefit, your taxes are mostly unchanged where ever the benefit is issued.

    • @jeremys.8616
      @jeremys.8616 9 месяцев назад +1

      @@jimhurt9343 it's beyond snap benefits. Oregon makes it incredibly easy for people to get on these programs that they come from all around the country and now there's so many people on the streets in parts of Oregon the government is seeking vast sums of money to attempt to fix it. The point I'm making is there should be more scrutiny to issuing benefits to people that come here from other states not proposals for more spending and government expansion. In fact the people who've come in from other states and are wasted on drugs 24/7 on the streets of Oregon should be sent back to whatever state they were born in.

    Basically, it's a drug and homeless industrial comlex a huge lobby benefits from. Watching Oregon self destruct because of Kotex and her ilk who have taken over the Willamette Valley over the last 30 years is one of the saddest things I've seen in my entire life.

    What is affordable? $800/month for a 1 bedroom apt? There are many people who cannot even afford to pay $500-600 to rent a room in a house -- many seniors cannot afford apts...I doubt what Kotek is talking about is going to help these people....thought?

    PLACE THOSE WITH EXPERIENCE FROM HOMELESSNESS, MENTAL HEALTH AND SUBSTANCE USE AT THE HEART OF PROGRAMS, OPERATIONS, AND OUTREACH.
    Require Tanf, MCKINNEY-VENTO ACT and HUD to collaborate. $900,000 was given for MCKINNEY-VENTO, what has it been used on? Stop wasting money on transportation and GET THOSE FAMILIES HOUSED
