Thank you! Quick, simple, yet so effective! I'll keep looking for more tips of yours, Chief! Since I bought it November last year, never could really fly the CX-20 for various issues and troubles. Now 's the time! Thanks for having shared your science. Much of helper!
I finally fixed it. calibrated the esc's according to this video. it was great. crashed after, just got the same exact motor, put it in, was shuddering. Replaced the rf esc and it fired up! since I saw your video, I bought a Parrot Bebop 2. Cats ass!
Couldn't work out why my motors wouldn't spin up on arming, after having done a complete rebuild/upgrade on my Quanum Nova. Thank you! This worked perfectly - even with different hardware/transmitter ( APM2.8/ESCs V2.4b/3DR power module/FS-ia10b/FS-i6S)
Thank you very much. After fist flight 1 motor stopped working. After calibration no horrible beeping anymore and synchronous action! Test flight tomorrow!!
l would like to thank the author of this thread l have a problem with my new never flown cx20 when l took the top off for a look at the guts of it l found a white wire cut. problem answered in thread. l plan to build my own quad soon the cx20 is just one step along the path. thanks
Man you are F#$% AWESOME! Just upgraded my motors and esc and could not get one of the motors synced. Your procedure worked perfectly! Where do you get your information from? Happy to see someone that knows what the HECK their talking about with cx-20's.
Hi Mike, just wanna commend your awesome video!! Also wanna ask if you could show us the procedure to shutdown the quad such that the calibrations are saved. I realised that my motors are not stopping together in normal mode like they did in ESC calibration. help needed thanks!
+Edwin Kang The calibrations are saved automatically when you finish the procedure in the description of this video. There is nothing else you need to do.
you know whrere to buy compass wires and conncector. When I plug in my compass wire and put on the top the motors only go half throttle on full strange. I may have a short in wires but didnot think the compass would set motors.?
how can you pass through throttle without arming at the end? will it need a restart and it would need arming first again? I think you can do esc calibration by plugging your mototors one by one into receiver arm channel, power via usb turn on tx max throttle plug in battery lower throttle disconnect batt repeat...
this is the problem I have flu yesterday it was great went today did all the steps took off and instead of flying normal it just spun around for no reason any ideas everything was set before I took off ?
Hey, I know it been a while since you did this, It worked for me but does not seem to be saving the settings. When I disconnect and unplug from the PC plug everything back in ,plug back I the battery the motors wont start at all. If I go through the process again the motors spin but once disconnected same thing. Any ideas? Any help would be appreciated.
I have a CX-20, in mission planner it shows that it is upside down, i tried calibrating everything and it still doesn't work, and it doesnt want to unlock the motors, I calibrated the transmitter and it still doesnt want to unlock them. Could anyone help me please?
Hey, I followed your instructions, and got the motors working whilst calibrating. However, I still get constant beeping when I turn on the device. Any advise would be appreciated.
Hi Mike , the quad still flying normally , but No Led night night , when i plug in the usb still no light , I didn't use Mission planner or update any software , the quad still in its original condition, i just got help from one of the senior in Rc forums, hope that i can find out the problem soon . Thanks
Thanks for this video. I can now get the esc/motors to run. But when the motors are armed, my Q nova spins the props quite a bit. Should this happen? Thanks!
I did a firmware update with APM Planner 2.0 and now when I connect my battery I get a constant beep and flashing lights. The app says my RC not calibrated. I'll try this to and see if it helps. If not by chance do you know how reset factory defaults? Thanks in advance.
I think I am having the big trouble, because my APM wont indicating and LED light all. And the power LED and the GPS LED also no light all. Is my APM controller has fried? And my quad keep beeping non stop. All I can see the GPS LED and the Receiver LED is lite on. Need a big help here please...
Hi Mike My problem is this, I had a crash of my CX20,"pilot error" unfortunatly bad damage, had problems after where flights were not stable and for other reasons I replaced the FC with a new one , standard open source with 3.2.1 , installed it and cant get the motors to arm (rock back and forward with a constant beeping) found your video and followed it and every thing worked as you explained, disconnected and it went back to rocking and beeping, can you suggest what I am doing wrong, thanks Geoff
+SuperGoofa Something is wrong with your parameters. Reset to default in mission planner (advanced view) and then go through all the mandatory calibrations again. Remember that the compass is internal.
After you do this you need to replug the cable you did pull out in the begining ? Can i upgrade the esc's for 30 amp opto BLheli esc's and fly with them after only this caliblation?
I was following your setup carefully my 3rd (CCW) motor speed were back to normal, but when all setup finished, I remove the battery, plug the power back and the mini usb, my quad doesn't saving the setup, it all came back to the previous setup (my 3rd CCW motor esc speed aren't the same with others). So, how do I supposed to save the setup to the esc?
Dwityandaru Hananto The settings are saved when you complete the procedure. If one motor isn't spinning as quickly, perhaps it is a different issue. Maybe you haven't calibrated the accelerometer properly so the quad doesn't think it is level. If it doesn't think it is level it will apply more power to some motors and less to others. Try (CAREFULLY) holding and tilting the quad while applying a little throttle to see if that one motor will spin faster when you have the quad at a different angle. If so, it's probably the accelerometer calibration. Otherwise, search/ask in the forum I linked to in the description.
Hey Mike: I replaced my 8" OEM props on my CX-20 with carbon fiber props and almost crashed the quad. With the 9" props it fly very unstable. I double checked the for proper prop rotation and all was fine...any clue on getting it to fly properly.
mark valis Nothing on the TX. Your problem is either the ESC, the connection between the ESC and the flight controller, or the flight controller. Try plugging the ESC directly into the receiver's throttle port (T) to rule out an ESC issue.
Hey there I am having a problem when I arm it and throttle up the motors start and stay at the same speed. full throttle it's stays at the same speed. and ideas?
so everything looks great all in sync, but as soon as i power off and power on its crap again, not moving the same . is there an order your supposed to re connect everything that im not doing right?
+Ricky P No. If you hear the same beeps as in this video then you are done. If they don't spin the same after powering back on you have probably not calibrated the accelerometer properly.
Hi there, it look like you know much about cx20, can you please help me out please ? my cx20 all four ESC light , 2 green and 2 red they are not going , just wondering if my fc is faulty ? Many thanks
After doing all the steps my cx20 with APM2.8 works and motors are calibrated, but once i disconnect and try to reconnect it seems that my APM didn't kept the calibration and once i arm motors they start to turn at low rpm again as if i didn't proceed to calibration?? any clue?
+Jocelyn Cholette did you do all the mandatory calibrations in mission planner? the motors may spin when armed if you have the MOT_SPIN_ARMED parameter set.
+Mike i have a problem here ... look like the ESC are totally not programmed ... the drone dont responds good ...all motors spins but the 4 engines are not responding right... do you know a way for make it start run in normal way ... or do you have the opportunity to share your mission planner settings... because i try all the possible way but nothing to do ... my Cheerson is unusable ... and is new, i dont make a fly with it ... i did something wrong with mission planner setting ... !
Luigi Burdo Take a video of the issue you are having and upload it to youtube. Then post your problem with a link to the video to the rcgroup thread I linked to in the description. You'll have your quad back in the air in no time.
Mike Morrison i found where is the issue .. i entered in the arm checking calibration mode of the apm 2.5.2 . like your tutorial but with arm check set to 1 ... and after 1 h of beeping randomly on every esc because of calibrating, something change, but the ARM need totally to be reconfigured. Example ,before the arm esc was making the front right and down right motor really hard in rotating, now is like this the left down ... the others motors are soft... it is make me creazy ... i make a really stupid thing when upgraded the firmware from mission planner.
Ive noticed on the ESC power cable the white lead on mine as been cut after been soldered to the board, Is yours the same? Is the white lead not used for anything?
Hi Mike, brand new Cheerson CX 20 open source. all 4 motors worked in the house. took it outside did the spinning bit, placed it on the ground, and only 3 motors worked. been going crazy. I'm ready to send it back. that button you pushed, would this reset the motors or what? please help
+philip dangelo No it won't. You probably haven't calibrated everything properly or you have a motor or ESC issue. There is a link in the description to a forum where you can get help.
I got a this quadcopter for christmas lastyear and I think I calibrated it wrong. how would I reset the whole thing so when I turn it on it thinks it is its first time turning on.
Is there anyway to reset, or reprogram the Cheerson CX20 Remote Controller? It is at this point not binding, and just beep and blink. Please help if you can. Thanks
mark valis The beeping means that that ESC is not getting a signal from the flight controller. Check the connection (wire and solder joints) between the flight controller and that ESC.
+Mike Morrison I been trying to calibrate it. I do put it in calibration mode and go in circles and then I put it nose down and go in circles. And my cx20 still takes off side ways
I'm actually having an issue with the red indicator light after a crash. All my solders seem good and it even flashes for a second when I plug the battery in. Anyone else solve this problem?
Chris Schofield The changes are automatically saved to the ESCs when you complete this. If you are having trouble when you plug the battery back in then you probably have other issues. Maybe bad firmware update or incorrect parameter settings. Post your issue on the rcgroups forum thread that I linked to in the description.
Please friend me help .. I do not know what else to do .. I made the video procedure .. But when you turn on the CX20 again, he is whistling straight .. "beep beep beeep .... .." What did I do wrong?
Willie Moura I'm not sure. The only things I can think of that would cause beeping are the ESCs not getting a proper signal from the APM, ESCs not calibrated properly(try calibrating again?), or a low voltage warning.
Hi Mike, could you possibly take a look at my video (my only video) and let me know if you think my problem could be ESC related. Ive done the accelerometer and TX calibration via mission planner but im still having a tilting issue. My next step is the ESC calibration then restoring the default parameters as ive left to think the problem is in the parameter settings. #Baffled Your opinion / help is much appreciated. Thanks
are you kidding you do not have millions of hits!!!!! I have sent back 3! 3 novas to hobbyking because of esc issues and you just solved it. If you hold the throttle in the arm position it will bring it to calibrate mode so be careful as it caused issues that your video just solved
THB Try doing an accelerometer calibration and check in mission planner to make sure the quad looks level. Also make sure you don't have any trim set on the transmitter.
You are awesome , i will try to get the best of it , to top shell is crached badly si i taped it and worked fine till last crash . I assume some kind of calibration needed of some sort .
Thank you! Quick, simple, yet so effective!
I'll keep looking for more tips of yours, Chief!

Great video Mike. Best video on how to calibrate the ESCs on the CX20. Thanks!
Thank you very much! My CX-20 never took of before. The motors just spinned too slow. Now, this was the solution after half year trying.
I finally fixed it. calibrated the esc's according to this video. it was great. crashed after, just got the same exact motor, put it in, was shuddering. Replaced the rf esc and it fired up! since I saw your video, I bought a Parrot Bebop 2. Cats ass!

Hi, thnx for video but how much does it take in minutes ? My dron was beeping good 10 minutes and i must disconnect him. Please answer.
what type of esc this one v2.0. and whats the difference with the quanum nova pro esc.
how many amps max support the stock cx20 escs?

+Julie Macfarlane it is a safety feature. but you can change a parameter (MOT_SPIN_ARMED) if you don't want the motors to spin when armed.
should i do this after replacing n esc?

Probably too much vibration. You need to balance the props and check the amount of vibration. The rcgroups forum thread has many posts about this.
Soldering looks good on the quad, what should I check on the TX
mark valis Nothing on the TX. Your problem is either the ESC, the connection between the ESC and the flight controller, or the flight controller. Try plugging the ESC directly into the receiver's throttle port (T) to rule out an ESC issue.

Maybe a wire came loose? Do any LEDs light up when you plug the USB? Ask your question in the forum I linked to in the description.
when i throttle up my cx20 the front right motor twitches only for like 2 seconds and stop other 3 spin fine
Did you ever find a fix to this? Mine does this as well
thank god, now i dont have to tether drone to my cat
Hi. I have just bought one from tomtop and one of the motors does not go round until you get to about half throttle.Would this cure it. Thanks Tom
Maybe. Give it a try.
hi,If you have a ps3 using the usb cable connect it to the cx20 and then pc laptop easy and simple

HI Mike
When i power up my quad 1 esc arms a few seconds after the other 3 and then the motor will not run any ideas what the problem may be thanks
Colin magowan Sorry I don't. I have not heard those fast beeps before. Have you done the transmitter calibration and then the ESC calibration?
+Mike i have a problem here ... look like the ESC are totally not programmed ... the drone dont responds good ...all motors spins but the 4 engines are not responding right... do you know a way for make it start run in normal way ... or do you have the opportunity to share your mission planner settings... because i try all the possible way but nothing to do ... my Cheerson is unusable ... and is new, i dont make a fly with it ... i did something wrong with mission planner setting ... !

I have the open version with the battery warning activated do you-know how to reset it.
+Joe Ortiz It's probably not the battery warning unless the battery is low. There is a link in the description to a forum where you can get help.
Ive noticed on the ESC power cable the white lead on mine as been cut after been soldered to the board, Is yours the same? Is the white lead not used for anything?
+Quopter 999 Yes they are all like that. It isn't used.
Hi is the calibration of the ESC that you do the same with ESC version 2,4? Thanks
Javier Cepeda Yes
Mike Morrison Qual a finalidade dessa calibração?
If this does not work for you make sure your radio is calibrated just helped a newbie with his and it was not working because radio was out of whack.
Hi Mike, brand new Cheerson CX 20 open source. all 4 motors worked in the house. took it outside did the spinning bit, placed it on the ground, and only 3 motors worked. been going crazy. I'm ready to send it back. that button you pushed, would this reset the motors or what? please help

I have the same problem. did u solve it? how? ty
+philip dangelo did u ever fix it?
Hi friend. I'll connect the USB in APM and other in the computer?
+Diego Funari Yes, the other end to the computer. This is only used to supply +5 volts power to the APM during the calibration process.
I got a this quadcopter for christmas lastyear and I think I calibrated it wrong. how would I reset the whole thing so when I turn it on it thinks it is its first time turning on.
Hi Littlepro01, if you don't have any motor problems, you don't need to calibrate the esc like in this video. What's your CX-20 problem?
I believe I calibrated the gps and compass incorrectly so it acts stupid and doesnt always respond
You cannot calibrate GPS but compass and accelerometer..what's his beaviour
Is there anyway to reset, or reprogram the Cheerson CX20 Remote Controller?
It is at this point not binding, and just beep and blink.
Please help if you can.
Thanks
+Jack Scarpon If the controller is beeping, and blinking, that usually means the batteries need to be replaced in the controller itself.
I found out that the hard way.... Thanks for your reply...
+Jack Scarpon The best place to find info regarding the CX-20 is at www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2112759
Thanks..
I have one motor not spinning i did the above but still doesnt run, it kept beeping even while others were running
mark valis The beeping means that that ESC is not getting a signal from the flight controller. Check the connection (wire and solder joints) between the flight controller and that ESC.
how many volts is your micro usb that you plugged into the APM?
+Edwin Kang USB is 5v.
will this steps help if my cx20 is taking off side ways and hard to control when taking off?
+ivan botello no, probably not. either you're not giving it enough throttle when you take off or you haven't calibrated your accelerometers properly.
+Mike Morrison I been trying to calibrate it. I do put it in calibration mode and go in circles and then I put it nose down and go in circles. And my cx20 still takes off side ways
+ivan botello that's not an accelerometer calibration. copter.ardupilot.com/wiki/configuring-hardware/
+Mike Morrison thank you. I just got mission planner on my compute.
I did all this and everything went as yu said , i cannot get it to arm now , and suggestions .?
Cecil Frank maybe your need to plug the cable back in that you unplugged(see description for the full set of steps).
Gps green light doesnot work no power to it ! Red works!
I'm actually having an issue with the red indicator light after a crash. All my solders seem good and it even flashes for a second when I plug the battery in. Anyone else solve this problem?
How to.ya get it.to save the changes as min.just.go.out sink.agen.soon.as unplug baterry and plug bk.in
Chris Schofield The changes are automatically saved to the ESCs when you complete this.
Willie Moura You need to plug the receiver back into the power distribution board.
Mike Morrison Please how I do it? I already tried everything and can not ..
Mike Morrison I Got You. I connected the receiver back .. and not go forward .. continued making many beeps
Willie Moura I'm not sure. The only things I can think of that would cause beeping are the ESCs not getting a proper signal from the APM, ESCs not calibrated properly(try calibrating again?), or a low voltage warning.
Mike Morrison Ja calibrated all you can calibrate .. do not know what he has but anyway, thank you for the help ..
Hi Mike, could you possibly take a look at my video (my only video) and let me know if you think my problem could be ESC related. Where is the ESC plug? I know where the T is
What does 'Apm mean? thanks.
paulkazjack it's the flight controller.
does it work with different ESC ?
yes
How do we save the settings
QNova Camera They are saved automatically.
but the USB cable where you put it?
The instructions are in the description.
OK TKS
My quad is dragging to a side, what could be?
THB Try doing an accelerometer calibration and check in mission planner to make sure the quad looks level. Also make sure you don't have any trim set on the transmitter.
You are awesome , i will try to get the best of it , to top shell is crached badly si i taped it and worked fine till last crash . I assume some kind of calibration needed of some sort .
