I am from Germany, but my Family is from Poland. Back then my Grandpa lived in Szczytno when it was still part of Germany. He and his family had a huge company there and were quite rich. But then the war came and he had to flee into inner german territory. He and his family originaly planned to go back, but the territory was then given to Poland and so his company. Since his company basically got dissolved just like that, and his City which was called Ortelsburg back then given into the hands of a country which was very angry at his people for all the war crimes they commited in poland, he and his family decided to stay in germany where he and my Grandmother build up a live near the netherlands on the rhine, where i still live today with his Son(My Father). My heritage is also the reason why my surname is Jaschinski and not something german. It was my Grandfathers dream to go back to szczytno one day since he grew up there. But his wife (My grandmother) did not want this for some reasons (My Father did not tell me why) and so he never got to go back to his true home till he died in summer 2010. My Father said he felt awfully sorry about this and still cannot understand why my Grandmother did not let him go. However, i love the polish people and culture. And it is my dream to go to szczytno one day and live there just as my grandfather did. It feels like i would complete the Task my Grandfather was unable to complete. My Grandmother by the way is currently in the Hospital and it is not looking too well for her, hoping for the best, but it seems like the Szczytno generation of my family is slowly dying.
