Hi there, Here I am, I'm Luca from Italy. I didn't know the English aerobatic team. This type of jet is similar to the Italian one called "Three-colour arrow". Good job, bro, as always. Ciao.
I’ve just started building 2 of the 2008 tooling ones and there still really nice kits considering there age with just a couple of places that need filling
Hi Stu, another great review, I am torn , I think that the 2008 model is the more accurate model but the starter set is easier to show off in the in flight mode and may have more appeal to the majority of modellers, cheers.
Great video Stuart. I think Airfix have missed the mark with the gift set. To not include control panels and sticks leaves a lot to be desired even at 72nd scale
Hello Stu, first, I wish they still made those display stands, it makes building wheels up 1/72 kits so much easier to display. I did see some similar stands on Amazon but haven't tried them. I've seen the Red Arrows fly several times and think their aircraft are perfect for airshow demonstrations. Thunderbirds and Blue Angels are really too big for tight formation flying at military power. Really nice build out of these kits. I do like the Tamiya glue.. However, I built a vintage kit the other day molded in red plastic, The Tamiya seemed to pick up the dye and I have a bottle of red glue now.. one idea on the colored vapor trail might work with pipe cleaners, they make some in 12 inch lengths for vintage ceramic pipes and I think for Christmas decorating they might make colors. Not sure how they'd look. A real " techo " look would be using fiber optic line with a little bit of dyed cotton , mounted on a base with light. That's really out of the box. Will be anxious to see what you come up with. Cheers Bob
Cheers Bob. I've had that happen with the Tamiya glue sometimes too - it can make a real mess. I also find it doesn't seem to stick some types of plastic, even when regular cement does. I'll have to look up those pipe cleaners, thanks.
Nice build, Stu! For now, I like the one with the stand more, but that depends on what you come up with for the others 🙂As far as that goes, I'm stumped. Maybe some acrylic rod can be bent into shape when warming it (e.g. hot water or hair dryer)? One question though, I noticed on both box arts the canopy frames are (partially) white, and you painted them red - is there a specific reason for that? Sweaty greetings, Mike
Thank you Mike. Yes, there's a definite reason for the red on the canopy: I messed it up🙂I realised after I had painted it, and thought fixing would be too hard since you can't just overpaint because the red will be visible from the inside. Ooops :)
Another great video & a really informative comparison between the two kits. I was actually quite surprised on how much better the 'gift set' aircraft looked compared to the more (sophisticated?) kit. Regarding the display quandary. You could try the 'Heart' shape three of them do. Two form the heart & the third 'splits' it's smoke to look like the arrow passing through the heart. "Go on, you know you want to!" 😉
Hello mr.nerd!i build a Red arrow in94 but i dont remember the brand.and the sprue Was Red too. With sticky greetings from Brandenburg germany.yours truly.your modellmate.christian
@@kennethjames9416 I mentioned the tank but forgot about the winglets. Strange omissions from the kit, really. They wouldn't particularly test modelling skills.
This is why the starter sets are such a disapointment. You get cool stand, good fit and interesting subject to build, but the detail on this is unacceptable in 2020->. I know its supposed to be for new modelers, but how many of them will accualy buy this? Every time someone asks for a kit to start with they will be sent to something in 1/48 from tamiya or other manufacturer. Same with the new Airfixes 1/24 boat. Great subject, not a huge small scale shit, stand, but in the end it wont look good with lacking detail. Airfix proved many times in the past few years that they are capable of making a great kit - they 1/48 sclae. they need to do something similar in the 1/72. I have 3 of those hawks at home (the 2012 tooling) i glued one together and shelfed it. I ran out of patience at the time with everything not fitting properly. End of rant, ty for reading.
I think a lot depends on the modeller and how likely they are to continue modelling. The lack of an instrument panel was that only thing that really surprised me here. 1/48 takes a lot more space (and costs quite a lot more). For example I was in the model shop today and there was a young lad with his grandfather, buying a kit to build together. It was clearly their first plastic model kit, and they were really tight on both budget and space, so they wanted a 1/72 Spitfire. Both the Airfix and Revell starter set style bundles really appealed to them. But that said, I rarely build 1/72 myself! :)

@@notteblufieramosca7548 I saw a nice model of the Italian team at Telford last year. I think there is a picture of it in my video :)
@@ModelNerd OK, bro.
Great comparison. Seems like combining the two kits could yield the best result for a modern scheme in flight.
Certainly the decals of the new one and the detail of the old one would give a very nice result.

Agreed. The fit of the canopy was the only real issue I had.

Thanks Steven. I'm inclined to agree. The stand is the big thing for me.

Thanks Paul. I agree - it is a little bit of an odd omission.

Hi Stu great wee video, I hope to do the Airfix club double set for the 60th anniversary, cheers Liam

Very nice kits RAF Red Arrows Hawk jets love jets. Two models in a kit.
Thanks!

Haha, that's a good heart and a classic Red Arrows move. It would require a lot of vertical space though.

The 2020 Hawk is simplified,no smoke tank or under fuselage winglets.I prefer the 2008.Well tidy video though.

Just a comment for the algorithm
