I appreciate you guys reacting to different songs from the usual songs people react to. "The Day that the World Breaks Down" is like the go to intro to Ayreon, since it features 11 singers and it's as a whole a good representation of their sound. But this is actually my favorite Ayreon album, it's much more mellower and atmospheric than their usual stuff.

  • @MattLathrum

I'm a fan of Ayreon - "The Day That The World Breaks Down" is a great start. Also, "Isis and Osiris" is wonderful and features vocals from Fish (original Marillion singer).

In 2000 Ayreon released two albums, a metal album ' The Flight of the Migrator' and a more atmospheric one called 'The Dreamsequencer'. This song is of course from the latter. You also hear Floor Jansen on this song, she ( like many others) became a regular vocalist on Ayreon's albums. Ayreon's music is one big story in space, almost all Ayreon albums are part of that story, too much to write down here. Ayreon is basically one guy, dutchman Arjen Anthony Lucassen. He writes the songs, plays most instruments by himself and invites famous and less famous singers to sing those songs. It's an incredible journey. He started this in 1995 and is still going strong.

I've never heard of Ayreon. This song definitely has a unique vibe. The multiple different vocal parts really make it an interesting song, and when all of the different vocals come together at the chorus line of 'my house on Mars', it works really well. Yes, I liked the trippy end of it too. I'm curious too to see what else Ayreon has.

I have to go for the Universal Migrator or 0100101 (or whatever the numbers are :D).
But to be honest they are all good. I did enjoy the last album a little bit less though.
Most important thing you need to know about Ayreon, is that it's not a band. It's only 1 guy who creates the music, but invites 7-10 people to all sing a part on the album.
The albums are like books, and every song is a chapter in the book. It's all connected.
Not just that, almost all albums are also connected, like a series of books.

Welcome to the world of Arjen Anthony Lucassen and his main project Ayreon. Nice to see someone react to something other than The Day The World Breaks Down which is most reactor's introduction to his music. He has so many good songs it is difficult to suggest one, but I would suggest Isis And Osiris or Abbey of Synn or for something a bit heavier Into The Black Hole

Ayreon is a deep rabbit hole. So many great songs. This is basically a project by Dutch musician Arjen Anthony Lucassen. His speciality is Rock/Metal opera and covers very broad musical styles. I would suggest listen to fisrt 3 songs of 2004 album The Human Equation together to have an idea of musical variety.
Also look up the guest list from his albums.... Basically who's who from Rock/metal world..

I’m sure that’s just my strange ear but fun stuff. The story that unfolds is epic! Last human on Mars, goes back to previous incarnations only to find he was at Stonehenge and was the 1st human on Earth! When he dies: “Eternity lies before you. @mvunit3 3 года назад

Mr. Smalls, imean Tally - guest vocalist "Johan Edlund" with his band "Tiamat" was one of the pioneers of "Goth Metal" which had Alternative elements, with Symphonic Black/Doom Metal roots.
On their Wiki page, it even says this:
"Upon the release of A Deeper Kind of Slumber (1997), Edlund relocated from Sweden to Germany and declared himself the only permanent member of the band; all albums that would follow would cement the band into a more gothic rock sound, quite different from the extreme music they did in the years before, with recent albums showing a Sisters of Mercy and Pink Floyd influence".
See the album "Wildhoney" (1994) where their music makes the change and onward.

The Live performance with Damien Wilson on vocals is astounding, but the original is incredible too. If I ever catch an open spot for the requests I will be sure to get something in from that single album they released under that name. Very moody, and it has that digeridoo synth sound very present which just brings so much body to the atmosphere.
