I appreciate you guys reacting to different songs from the usual songs people react to. "The Day that the World Breaks Down" is like the go to intro to Ayreon, since it features 11 singers and it's as a whole a good representation of their sound. But this is actually my favorite Ayreon album, it's much more mellower and atmospheric than their usual stuff.
I'm a fan of Ayreon - "The Day That The World Breaks Down" is a great start. Also, "Isis and Osiris" is wonderful and features vocals from Fish (original Marillion singer).
Oh man, Into The Electric Castle live is something special. And that's not even compared to other music, but to Ayreon standards :) That'll be a fun ride
In 2000 Ayreon released two albums, a metal album ' The Flight of the Migrator' and a more atmospheric one called 'The Dreamsequencer'. This song is of course from the latter. You also hear Floor Jansen on this song, she ( like many others) became a regular vocalist on Ayreon's albums. Ayreon's music is one big story in space, almost all Ayreon albums are part of that story, too much to write down here. Ayreon is basically one guy, dutchman Arjen Anthony Lucassen. He writes the songs, plays most instruments by himself and invites famous and less famous singers to sing those songs. It's an incredible journey. He started this in 1995 and is still going strong.
I've never heard of Ayreon. This song definitely has a unique vibe. The multiple different vocal parts really make it an interesting song, and when all of the different vocals come together at the chorus line of 'my house on Mars', it works really well. Yes, I liked the trippy end of it too. I'm curious too to see what else Ayreon has.
I have to go for the Universal Migrator or 0100101 (or whatever the numbers are :D). But to be honest they are all good. I did enjoy the last album a little bit less though. Most important thing you need to know about Ayreon, is that it's not a band. It's only 1 guy who creates the music, but invites 7-10 people to all sing a part on the album. The albums are like books, and every song is a chapter in the book. It's all connected. Not just that, almost all albums are also connected, like a series of books.
yes that was Floor Jansen singing backup on that track .... ... and this album (Universal Migrator Part 1 The Dream Sequencer) is a good intro to Lana Lane if you have never heard her. She sings the bulk of the female vocals on the album.
Welcome to the world of Arjen Anthony Lucassen and his main project Ayreon. Nice to see someone react to something other than The Day The World Breaks Down which is most reactor's introduction to his music. He has so many good songs it is difficult to suggest one, but I would suggest Isis And Osiris or Abbey of Synn or for something a bit heavier Into The Black Hole

Arjan is a very, very talented composer and producer. His albums are always very versatile, but he told that UM part1 is his ode to Wish you were here. Part 2 is more metal orientated. I wouls recommend you to watch and listen to the live recording of Into the Electric Castle: an Ayreon classic that will give you the ultimate Ayreon experience.
