![A Koopa's Revenge: INTRO + ALL BOSSES + CREDITS! [1080p60]](/img/1.gif)
Imagine being a programmer in 1991 and a simple game mechanic palette swap idea led to a 3 minute video with an entire dramatic story behind it.
1985
1985*
A few months after the red koopa shell discovery, there was another glitch in the shell painter. While taking notes, Kamek noticed a blue shell. The koopa wearing it almost fell off the cliff, and it appeared as if he should have, but somehow, he straightened himself up. Kamek brought the koopa in for testing, and with many parakoopa comparisons, realized that something about the blue paint was making the shell more floaty. Kamek immediately called up Bowser and informed him of this new discovery, and soon, blue parakoopas were all around. But, like with the red shells, the army of blue koopas realized that the floatiness of their shells could be used against them. One by one, they all perished at the hands of a flying Yoshi. A few days later, Kamek, not wanting another brilliant discovery to go to waste, donated some blue shells to the SKRA (Super Kart Race Association) as a new item that racers could use. Bowser, realizing the potential of just a few blue shells making a much bigger difference than a whole army, started producing red and blue shells again.
Months later, and once more, a glitch occured in the shell painter. Kamek looked up from his notes to find a yellow-shelled koopa heavily making his way to the cliff. Kamek brought the yellow-shelled koopa in for another round of tests and noted that when the koopa got into his shell, the heavy yellow paint made it harder to get out. This resulted in the koopa being able to attack with brute force in the shell. Once again, Kamek reported his findings to Bowser. Bowser was pleased by Kamek's findings, but asked Kamek to see what effects the heavy yellow paint had on Yoshis before producing more yellow-shelled koopas. A few hours later, Kamek reported to Bowser that the Yoshis became heavy themselves and were capable of stomping with so much power that the earth around them shook. Realizing that this could mean the downfall of the Koopa Clan if used too much, Bowser set the shell painter to produce yellow shells, but only ever so often.

How do the Koopa's try to kill Mario? All they do is walk around.
In 3D games, enemies chase Mario and he gets damaged when they hit him.
He also gets damaged when hitting enemies in 2D games, i'm guessing they're actually trying to kill him, but they don't do that in the games themselves because of limitations (back then) and gameplay.

the story about a guy who goes against the stream, wanting to make a change in society. Those close around him support his innovative ideas but not all higher ups agree with change as it threatens their rule. So they stump and demotivate him so that things go back to the way they were...

Jonathan Nulens That's a peculiar allegory.
It's more like the story of an influential person and their part in a war. We the viewer change perspectives and our focus are put in the other side with the person whether it be good or not. So, it's just about the sacrifices on the opposing side.

it takes a lot of thought and talent to make a cartoon with a casual airy feel at first and a hidden societal issue deeper within without forcing it

Ah, so this is why the A Koopa's Revenge trilogy started.
People feel bad about the Koopa Troopas and say Mario jumps on them and that he is a cold blooded murder but has everyone forgot that even if you DO NOT hurt the Koopas they still hurt you? They are enemies that harm you in the games. Mario is defeating them to get to Bowser to save the Princess. Every hero in history had to kill to save a nation, people or an ideal.
Oh come on that's just game design. they don't show any signs of physical violence. they just walk into you.

The RPGs have taught us that walking into Mario is how they are trained to attack, or at least when it comes to Goombas.
It's not about sympathy for the Koopas, it's about the very definition of Hero itself. Being a Hero means that you're fighting for your and his/her people's ideal by defeating or killing people the minority of people whose ideal is different. It's basically a hidden form of discrimination, a glorified chain of murders by killing their lives or ideals.
Frankly there is no wrong in perspective talking, but one thing for sure. Heroism is often overglorified, a subconscious of selfish human and their perspective. Hero in both sides of the wars be it attacker or defendant are the one responsible for litting the flame of war.

Except Bowser explicitly states across the series that he and his side are aiming to be evil, so if you're on his side you are fighting for evil. Fact is, Bowser has a habit of holding people against their will, followed by doing stuff like destroying homes, castles, and hurting people. Mario's heroism is rescue and self-defense of the people he cares for.
Not even Bowser's own son can truly defend his father's actions against the Mushroom Kingdom, but says it's what they do so they shouldn't be ashamed of it. That isn't heroism. It's a flimsy justification.
Mario isn't that deep. Good is good, evil is evil. Sure, the series makes both sides really entertaining to watch, and Bowser is far and away the funniest and most entertaining villain in gaming, but he's still evil.
@@TiStardust i was talking about hero in general, and the act justification is exactly as my point stand is just a glorification of enforcing one's ideal.
And then they invented the Hammer Brother, figured out that simply holding a hammer out would prevent them from being bonked on the head. Sadly they were quickly defeated when it turned out Yoshi didn't give a flying fuck what you were doing, and ate them anyway. Hopefully the Ebola Mega Spiny Robot of Red Hammers will work.

Here's why I think the red shells cause flame when spat out: The paint used in shell production bursts in to flame when exposed to a certain molecule in the salivia of the Yoshi.

People are into this image of Mario as some kind of unstoppable killing machine but after attempting to build levels I consider "easy" in Super Mario Maker and seeing how many times player Marios die from stuff like just putting a red koopa on ledge slightly higher than the one the player is on, I can no longer hold this view.
