I absolutely love when she gets philosophical about the deeper meanings of the lyrics and how the musical accompaniment can modify that position through companionship and parallels. I am utterly overjoyed that I found this channel. Thank you Bobby Lee!

You mentioned the feel of the rhythm right away. I think they have one of the best rhythm sections in rock. It’s warm and inviting, it feels good. I think it’s why Credence is so popular. Loved the harp playing. Thanks Virgin Rock.

I saw Fogerty last week in concert, it was fantastic. As for the song, he's said that despite their success he could see the band falling apart from within and that's what it's about.

For a much more to the point protest song on the Kent State tragedy that you read about in the background info, check out Neil Young's "Ohio," which he did with Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, but it is pure Neil Young with a good backing band. This song is very explicit on what happened during this tragedy when four students were killed by the National Guard while protesting the war. It is one of the most famous protest songs in rock history. So it would be great to add to your list of protest songs you have done now. You could even do a Special Weekend with "Ohio" and another protest song from this era. There are still many you have yet to hear, but I really think "Ohio" should be next. It was written, recorded and released just a few days after this historical event that occurred in May of 1970.

This was a covert anti-war (Viet Nam) song. I never went, being only 14 when the war ended, but I have a cousin who I stay in touch with, about a decade older than me, and he did a tour. He explained this to me, that it would be sunny, then immediately begin to rain in certain seasons. CCR was a popular band for conscripted soldiers during that stupid war.

John is probably one of the most interesting people on Earth. He can tell stories like no one and has several life times worth of experiences to relate. He taught me the difference between Country music and Cowboy music.
One of the most amazing musical performances I've ever attended, included John playing CCR music for the first time in 15 years. He was joined on stage by Jerry and Bob from the Grateful Dead, with drum legend Steve Jordan and the incredible Randy Jackson on bass. They burned through the CCR catalog for an Oakland Stadium full of music fans.
There were a lot of diverse musical tastes in my household when I was young. Both my parents loved John's music, as did my brothers. It's been a part of my life, since before I can remember.

I deeply resonated when I first heard this on the radio. It was a confusing time in my life where mood never quite matched up with the day. I’d be depressed about so many things that I wanted to tear up on an otherwise sunny and perfect day but didn’t. It was like watching all this negativity pass by and you’re helpless to it. Maybe it wasn’t as strong and opposing as it must have been for the writer to this song, I thought; him being inspired to write the song and take action.
Had no idea what it was originally written about. I enjoy the insight you bring along to these reaction videos, very interesting. Thank you!

I loved your reaction to one of my favorite bands (I know I have a lot of favorites😉), and I loved how much you enjoyed it. All the great UK bands of this period do tend to dominate, so I am glad you also have found several American bands you also like, such as CCR, The Doors, The Beach Boys, and Simon and Garfunkel, to name a few. And CCR has many other great songs for you to still hear. I liked your second interpretation which makes the most sense in terms of the stated inspiration for the song, with the rain darkening what he hoped would be a sunny day, and asking if you can even see what is happening and being lost. But he also has enough wisdom to know that this is the typical cycle that has played out in history and in nature over and over, so the sunny day will come around again. And in the meantime, there is beauty that can be found in the rain.
I also loved your harp play along and that it inspiring you to want to do a jam session with other musicians. That would be awesome! And you have the added advantage of living in the Nashville area, so there is no shortage of really good musicians in the area to jam with. Great reaction!

Fogerty has such a dynamic vocal quality. He can do dark and sinister with songs like "I Put a Spell On You" and "Run Through the Jungle." He can do light and kooky with songs like "Lookin' Out My Back Door" and "It Came Out of the Sky". And raucous in songs like "Sweet Hitch-Hiker" and "Travelin' Band". and he can also do sad and mournful with a song like "Someday Never Comes". Highly recommend all of those songs.

I can't put my finger on why, but this song almost always makes me cry.
As a young man I did not appreciate CCR, having written them off as, "lame, simple, sixties music". I do not feel that way anymore. I don't know when the change of heart occured. Now, whenever one of their hits comes within earshot, I purpose to hear it, and gladly so.
I know the world had it's problems back then too, but, compared to what it appears we are on the cusp of, it makes me long to have much of the way it was then. I'm sorry if my nostalgic waxing was too much.

This Particular Song "Have You Ever Seen the Rain" Is ABOUT the Decline of Creedance Clearwater Revival at the height of their popularity. All the band members from Tom Fogerty, Stu Cook, and Doug Clifford were jealous of the talent that John Fogerty had which took Creedance Clearwater Revival to the Best Rock Group in the World. John's brother Tom Fogerty would quit right at this time over this and their Next Album "Pendulum" was named as the Popularity of the group was beginning to swing back the other way towards the groups break up in 1971. The Song "Who'll Stop the Rain" is about the Vietnam War and the Politicians that ran it...

To my ears he sings the question as if he expects either no answer or a negative one. The question is rhetorical; he is asking about an event and you have either seen it or you haven't. The question is also metaphorical and I believe it's a given that the audience understands the metaphor.

There's sometimes a strange tension in CCR songs between the dark lyrics and the upbeat music. "Bad Moon Rising" is a stark example. The lyrics are about as ominous as humanly possible, but you don't notice it at first because it's such a jaunty little tune.
