Season 3 showed Rick embracing his worst behaviours, making the whole family even more dependant on him. At the peak of that power he changed the family to his needs by creating Clone Beth while trying to eliminate the consequences. Season 4 (inbetween the randomness) shows how the family does not grow within this dependancy - they fuck up even more. The Season 4 final is the ultimate conclusion. After realizing Rick's behaviour will not improve in this environment, they ditch him after accomplishing things without Rick or his gadgets. But the humanity in Rick exists. There is a person worth saving here because instead of leaving, Rick finally accepts being the problem.
Or in other words: Welcome to the most depressing season of our journey! You thought we would finally get rid of Jerry while Summer stays in school and Beth & Morty crotch even more onto Rick! Well guess what, your God is flawed and will never return. Watch him discovering even more shitty traits of himself to deal with because I'll guarantee you. The moment true evil reveals it's faces is the time we will need our Rick not as a god, but a friend instead! That's right, at least... 4, no 5! More! SEASONS! OF! RICK & MORTY!!!!
