    Love how Amara and Mohammed switch to lower-pitched drums after their solos. It's rare to have four djembefolos who ALL present very tasteful solos that don't rely on just sheer speed to impress. Great video! Love Mamedy's composition. It puts the lie to "no new rhythms" in djembe music. Thanks guys!

    .As you can see in his performance, he is a great djembefola. I do mention him in the credits and Mamady Keita acknowledges him after the performance, But even he, a great djembefola, calls Mamady Keita "Master."

    I love this peice! Besides the challenging first accompaniment, there's one hell of a dunun melody! Between the dununs and the bass djembe, I am hearing two rolls, as if the dununs were upright and being played with two sticks, ballet style. But it’s all traditional, horizontal dununs played with one stick! Notice about halfway through, I Mamady looks as if he's left his plane and is communicating with the spirit world. It was a pleasure and a blessing to be there in person!

    • @peternorthe1912
      @peternorthe1912 3 года назад

      What dunduns? Don’t get me wrong, of course the djembefolas are out of this world amazing but the person videoing this should show footage of those incredible dununs rocking this! It seems, maybe, disrespectful even?

      @@peternorthe1912 my bad! You are correct the dununs are actually the most important for this music and they were solid--however I was a bit star-struck by the master djembe drummers up front. After all I had driven 600 miles to participate in this workshop!! LOL

      You know, my first workshop was with Mamady in St. Louis! I came from KC to be there around 2004! Still drumming with Mamady Keita, but now he is based in Monterrey, Mexico and you have to go, there. Drum Instructors he trained are located in NC and Chicago, and you can seek them to teach workshops in Missouri, if you are interested. I also do some teaching, myself!

    Obviously masters but playing in a line ? I call it the stage syndrome. Circles are way more tight and better energy.

    • @casatranquila9529
      @casatranquila9529 3 года назад

      Masters.. Yes 👍.. You question their "line up"? ..Its a performance, facing an audience 🎵
      the Dun Duns ( 3 drums playing rhythm and bell parts) are positioned behind the djembe players who take their timing from them.
      Circles.. more in a workshop .. but tighter and better energy than this ? 💥
