Hi! I just got my Samsung S9 2 months ago and I was wondering whether it's worth it to root my device? I don't have a lot of experience, and don't feel like I'm missing something currently. On the other hand, I do like to customize things and as a previous apple fan boy I jailbreaked (or broke) all of my iPhones. Moreover, I think the only reason for me to root my device is to get closer to stock Android (since I don't use all of the Samsung apps) but I'm questioning whether I'd go through all the hassle, just for that. Could you give me some advice?

If you had a family computer when you were a kid, you might remember how your parents used to create "administrator" accounts for themselves, and a "user" one for you, so that you don't accidentally break anything in the system. Now imagine buying a computer that doesn't allow you to have an administrator account, that treats you like a dumb kid that would probably break something if you let him.
I don''t think anyone reading this would agree to buy a computer like that, but when it comes to smartphones, the majority of people buy phones that don't have root access out of the box, and it's either really hard or impossible to get it. There is literally no justification for not allowing root access on a phone, and by agreeing to buy an "unrootable" phone you let vendors treat you like a stupid child and assume that they know better what's good for you.
So yes, it is "worth it" to root your device, and it's not a question of modifications, custom ROMs or ads. You might not even want that on your device, but you should have the possibility. Because otherwise you let vendors treat you like a baby that needs to be put in a playpen so that he doesn't break anything in the house.

      @@SteveAustin00
Well, rooting itself doesn't remove ads. But it allows you to install certain apps, make certain system changes that will stop ads.
You can install adblocks without root access but, without it, the app will not function as efficiently as if it had root access as it won't be able to change system settings.
I use RUclips Vance, which is a player reversed engineered by third parties that allow me to minimise videos, play videos in PIP mode and with no ads whatsoever.
If you are familiar with Android and also Linux, you can make your device run faster, smoother, ad-free and safer than stock Android.
And, if you root your device, unlock your bootloader and you happen to have a device that is supported by LineageOS, you are guaranteed to have security updates if you are running an official build in a supported device. While Samsung, Google, Sony and other major manufacturers only update their phones for 2 or 3 years, I know people using Galaxies S4 with latest security updates. AND you get zero Google bullshit with LineageOS. No Chrome, no Google Play, no Books, no nothing - unless you want to have these apps.

No man, I disagree. You need access to the hosts file to get proper adblocking. These "no-root-required" adblockers don't work nowhere near as well as the rooted ones.

Zcooger Second Channel "do not see any ads" "however ads still appear on youtube ads" Wich is it?
The reason you need to root is that you can get ALL ads away from every app including RUclips, IG, Reddit etc. Yes no root adblockers work quite well but they don't entirely block ads. Root adblockers do.

Hello, i would say rooting is worth, or even more: rooting is essential for aware users.
    1. How i get into rooting/custom roms
i've been using various android devices through my life, my first (android) phone was xperia x8 with android 1.6. I remembered after some time phone got really sloggish to use, now i know a bit more but i started my journey with this phone, installed custom rom, which allowed me to overclock the processor or when i needed more battery undervolt it, so it lasted a lot more. Then i discovered a benefits of rooting, ive got xperia L later on and after rooting i was able to run xposed and apply some user fixes that solved early kitkat memory and system problems, swapiness and ive discovered posibilities that rooting offered, i was a script kiddie not gonna lie, network apps, sniffers was able to run on rooted devices, back in those days it was possible to crack network keys, steal sessions, various mitm attacks all with using only a phone. Modding games like clib hill racing to exceed upgrade values to see what happen making stupid jokes in middle school network or testing out freshly released android versions on was an awesome expirence. I wanted to know more and more by teaching with own errors bricking phone and recovering data multiple times. Aslo i listen a lot of music and dolby atmos and viper 4 android mods was amazing improvment at quality of sound.
    2. Mobile phone support and leaving rooting.
Time passed by and i was recognized in my school as somone who can help with fixing android phones, unbricking them, or applying fixes on phones that have factory defects. With custom recovery and root there was nothing that would stop me, for example in my Xperia L power button stopped working - managed to fix it by remapping camera button to act like power button and used phone without caring too much of that. Finally my xperia L got screen cracked and stops working. With rooted system i easily copied all data. Got back to another reserve phone. Later i was using nokia n9 with mee go system, (which imo was the best system ever released in mobile phones history) and felt in love with that phone. Right now im using xiaomi mi 8 lite and after a break from rooting, custom roms in my nokia, i was using it as it is, no root no bootloaders changing nothing. Phone was running fine, only defect was Lte loss, but it was easy to fix just to change networking to LTE/WCDMA and everything was running fine.
    3. Fuckup and regret.
I got used to smaller interfaces and always changing dpi to fit my preferences but after a year of using xiaomi mi 8 lite i soft bricked phone. Yup by accident i put extra number when entering minimum width dpi in dev settings which makes phone reboots to recovery. I enabled usb debugging earlier on and my laptop is remembered to connect without popup ill reset dpi via adb - that was my first thought. Got back to home, and tried, "device unautorized" error in adb. Excuse me what? A day earlier i had an OTA update from xiaomi which got me android 9>10 and miui 10>11 update. Unfortunate, it reset usb debugging certificates, so i was fucked up. Unlocked bootloader, flashed fresh rom, custom recovery and finally rooted with magisk. It allowed me to recover about 70% of total all photos form my phone. Notes, contacts, sms, and call logs was synced with google so i got them anyway. Then google comes with helpful hand to me, i forgot that when syncing accounts there is a option that sync photos too, and i managed to get all my photos back from google photos app. Quality was a bit worse than orginal as its like this but im happy that i;ve got everything back. However if i had root, or even custom recovery earlier it would save me time and nerves, as i would be able to correct my mistake by entering recovery and changing one line in build.prop. I recovered most of data but not all, and that expirience hit me hard as if i had root i knew several options to bring up system without loosing anything, like pushing new build.prop file, doing adb command to reset dpi to defaults (twrp adb bridge) or flashing only some partition from rom so data would not be lost. I ended up with root anyway (as i said to recover some data) and installed some magisk modules, enabling google cam (which is a way better than stock app) and for example module that fixing wifi bonding problems on qcom wifi adapters. So i would 100% root at any given time to save nerves and have control over device, rooting and twrp makes phone much easier to recover and with systemless magisk root you dont need to be afraid of apps that dont work on rooted as its easy to hide from any given app. if you got to this point, thanks for your time and get into rooting asap :P

    • @frodo4503
      @frodo4503 4 года назад

@@Vysair I agree that newer versions of Android allowed to do more system changes over years. And performance is great too. That's why I don't rooted my phone at first place, everything worked fine and I don't feel like rooting would give me benefits. As I said I was wrong as it was impossible to recover phone from soft brick after changing minimum width (dpi) by mistake which could happen to anyone who so change scaling of interface. My point is that with root+custom recovery there are lot of ways to recover phone from soft problems or even hardware problems. + Changing recovery allow you to do full phone copy which can be restored at any given time to this state and can lay down on sd card or you can move it somewhere to PC or gdrive. Without root permissions most data recovery programs won't work because they wouldn't be able to recover any deleted files so benefits are real imo, thanks for reply Vysair!

Lots of E-banking app are disabled on rooted devices. Although you my use something like Hide my root but i find it inconvenience to use E-banking app on rooted phones. But as a student studying mobile programming, I would still prefer rooting my device though, if i have a spare phone.

I think there's no laggy devices as in the old days so there's alternatives for rooted devices apps.

Lol rooting is absolutely without a shadow of a doubt unnecessary. I rooted for years and my battery was never any more than a half an hour more of screen on time at most. Performance has never been better than stock kernel and haven't had an ad since I stopped rooting. Rooting is a hobby and nothing more. It is pointless

Does anyone know if there's a way for me to change my default emoji on my Huawei mate 10 Lite to look like those found on Twitter?

It'd be worth just for system wide adblocking only.
Additional mods (e.g. stereo mod/google camera) and other trickery is pretty nice!
