Although we know this is a personal and private subject, we know a lot of people ask because they're curious as to whether or not this lifestyle is accessible to them. Our aim is to be as transparent and honest as possible 🤗 Hope you enjoyed the updated land tour, and thanks for the support as always!
Absolutely love watching your journey and for being so genuine. You help make my days so much brighter. God bless you both. Sending love and prayers 🇬🇧👋💜👍🙏🤗♿
I think breaking down the stigma around money is healthy. I would never want someone to feel forced to share their financial info, but sharing things like your salary and how much did I buy "x,y,z" for can really empower others.
Laura and Dan, I love your channel, but the greatest thing is you have both of you together, age and subscribers and you both have the land, time and health, so just work at your plans and goal, GOD will see you through 🙏🙏🙏🇯🇲👏👏👍
A plaque that has hung in our home for many years, “Life is not a destination, it’s a journey”. You’re living the journey. Well done you two LUV birds.
Here in Portugal, people take their olive harvest to the local "lagar" or press facility. Every area has at least one. They turn your olives into olive oil for a percentage of your yield. If you have 75 trees, you're looking at 2000 kg of olives easily in a normal season. You probably won't want to buy the big machinery to do it yourself. You might need a lot of help just harvesting the olives. Some groups come for free, harvest your olives, prune the trees, and in payment they take a percentage of your crop. Win win. You do nothing and probably get 50-100 liters of olive oil out of it.
that is the smallest wood stove I've ever seen, super cute and I can't wait for work to start on the stone house! Thanks for sharing from Northwestern Ontario Canada!
I look forward to your weekly videos. You have accomplished a lot since buying your land. I'm sure it seems overwhelming at times having so many projects that need to be done. Everyone makes mistakes, it's how we learn. Just keep putting one foot in front of the other, you will accomplish your goals. Best wishes for you both.
Hi guys, thanks for sharing your journey with us. As a 20 year old I moved with my new bride from Weardale in County Durham to Vancouver Island Canada. Like anything else in life it has had its bumpy moments but I can see the 2 of you succeeding just like we have over 50 years later.
Great to see all your hard work. Something to consider when you do the work on the barn. That is to have your doors open outwards. It will give you loads more space inside. Wishing you all the best for the future.
You have done so much in 6 month's and it all came out beautiful even with trial and error is great thank you for your time and sharing your journey with us can't wait for next video.Laura keep pushing him it's going to your dream come true.
Thank you for your honesty about the cost of your property. It is refreshing to find anyone these days that is willing to be transparent about things like this. I am however a bit concerned about Dan's growing obsession with all things poop related 😀. Seriously, I look forward to your videos. Keep up the good work.
Hiya, I’m Simon, perhaps one of your newer followers! It’s taken me a couple of weeks to catch up with you watching all of your videos chronologically. I’ve really enjoyed watching your journey so far and crikey, you’ve achieved masses in such a short space of time. Proud of you both and thank you for your bravery in sharing the emotional side of your journey, life is hard, teaches harsh yet valuable lessons, add nature too as I’m sure she will try to scupper your plans too. Now I’d love to help too (safely from my sofa of course!!). I’ve a few ideas based on some of your aspirations that may be worthy of investigation. I would consider at least some raised beds for some of your vegetable garden. As you now know, the bottom area gets quite boggy which could rot root systems and stunt growth. I saw all of your land clearance in a recent video which made me think of should you have a shredder/chipper so you could make wood chips. These would help the soil retain moisture for longer thus saving you water. The other benefits would include weed suppression and nourishment for the soil too. I was also thinking about your drainage, particularly the driveway to your property. When you pass skips on your travels, keep an eye out for underground drainage pipes that are vehicle sized in length. With this you could bury the pipe crossways to allow water to move across the road. I’m suggesting this with raising the access road in height by digging ditches either side to keep your road drier in winter. Think of ditches you find on the sides of country lanes in sunny England! Massive task I know, but being stranded on land is possibly your biggest risk that I can see so far. I think that’s enough for now 😂 . Massive high five and sending love, you’re doing an amazing job and you remind us all just what you can do when you put your mind to it. Si
Hey Simon, thanks so much for taking the time to follow our journey and for the advice 😀. Hopefully we have sorted the boggy-ness out on our bottom terrace after digging the channel, also a chipper would be a good investment - we'll see 😀
We moved around the same time as you guys, (been here a little over 6 months) and we finally just mowed the lawn. LOL you guys have accomplished SO much!
You guys need to look at yourselves and give each other a hug. You have achieved so much in so short of time. You are are a inspiration to many who want to go and do this in a foreign country. Congratulations.
Watched you from the beginning and thoroughly enjoy your videos watching your progress. Your video production gets better with each one you release, however maybe you want to review how often the quote “the land” is made in each video. You are both very lucky and brave in taking on such a project and building your homestead.
Love all your doing. Plans, especially big plans evolve and take time. It’s endless what you can acquire/ buy, It’s hard to prioritize isn’t it? Dan is super cute, he keeps growing on me! ❤
Thank you Dan and Laura for the tour, you should be very proud of all that you've accomplished during the past year. Looking forward to further progress and success.
Love what you are doing - such a lot of hard work with amazing results - I have just binge watched from the start and caught up today! But now I have to wait 🙈 - lots of luck with the legalities ☘️ x
I truly hope that you will continue to provide these updates for years to come. Can’t even begin to imagine how amazing it will look in 5 and 10 years time! Very inspiring. Thank you!
Hi Laura, we come from Australia, simular climate. I would stay with a insulated tin roof. They reflect the heat , tile hold the heat and a huge difference in summer but with good insulation holds the heat in winter. Loving your video. Enjoy seeing your family in Newcastle
Wow Dan and Laura, I never realised you guys had so many olive trees and all them fruit trees either how did you ménage to pick all those olives last year to say nothing of all the other fruits. Possibly your friendly neighbour could help you with one of those teams that come and pick the olives then prune the trees all for a percentage of the harvest and you get the rest of the olive oil back to do with as you please. Saves you all that time as I could imagine it would take the two of you quite a while say a week or more but by that time the olive oil makers wouldn’t take your crop as it would be to old but the pickers have the tools to shake the crop from the tree then they drop on to cloths they use so they would probably do 75 trees in 2days which still gives you a few days to work on something else. Loved todays video as it reminds us of how big your plot is and I love your plans for it. I hope your paperwork is sorted and going through OK.. love from Martin in Carlisle.😊 xx
Good morning, I hope that everything goes well for you and that you are very happy, although what you have ahead of you is a lot of work but in the end it will pay off
I just happened upon your first post nd have followed you every step of the way. You guys work hard and have a true plan about what you want to do. I hope ALL of your plans work out perfect for you! When you get ready to build your cistern, Use cement for the inside and simply use motor to hold your rocks on the outside. It will look authentic but hold water WAY better than rock walls. Just an ide to ponder on.
Glad to see you both. Don't know if it's the light or the fact you've made such progress since you began the journey, but there s a kind of glow around you. Weird I know..Laura, Dan, you look great and relaxed. 😊. Loved watching this new video. The coming projects look awesome. Don t know what you have in mind for the walls inside/outside of the barn, a mix of white coating you can do yourselves with lime, sand and water will last avery long time. If you add straw to it on the outside, the wall in white will reflect the sunlight and you d keep some freshness inside it. The same mix without the straw inside the barn would last at least 50 years. 💚😊. Take care guys and see you again next time.
As we say in America, you have come a long way baby. I know that it must be frustrating dealing with the government to find out if you can stay and not being able to do anything really permanent until that is settled, and we all feel your pain. Great, you have made a nice report again. About you ins and outs and plans for the future. Thanks for sharing. I wish you every success for the further development of the home stead. Given your efforts, I'm sure it will work.
Great work ! Maybe you could add over your waterhole some large kind off homemade barn doors so that it save water during the hot days and also to limit the growth of algaes.
Your place is very nice. It is nice too what you have got done. Raising the bed up is a good idea because you may get mold build up from moisture. You will be able to make your dream come true with time & hard work. Always make time for fun & fun with friends.
Make sure you read up on how to work with Humanure before you start adding not-fully-composted faeces onto your veggie plot. It really needs a couple years to break down and have all the pathogens removed. Might not be the wisest decision to add your poop to your regular composting bays as you are doing right now, but make a separate storage which you 'rotate' annually, then let break down for another two years or so, before using. Then, use it underneath berry bushes and fruit trees, not on your leafy greens. Lookup and read "Humanure Handbook A Guide to Composting Human Manure". Humanure is a thing, but so is contaminating your own food if you're not careful. Learn, then implement. Be safe! Also, find out if where you put your poop now, feeds into your well down the line somewhere. There's a reason the sewer system was invented.
Hi again You two have done an amazing job with your property! For not knowing much as you said all what you've created has been great. Soo look forward to see all the plans you have come to life. I do hope all of the legalities you face will resolve so you can stay right there. Thx for sharing this more detailed update. Will catcha next time.
Great video guys.. looking really good now isn't it! You got lucky in terms of the timing/price/market when you bought the land, so I'm sure whatever way things go you will come out ok! But it's looking great since you first bought it! I'm sure things will be on the up n up going forward! Especially having so many trees to harvest for crops and a small income help towards developing the property. You can always plant some more for what you specifically want for your personal use fruit trees that you may not have already veg etc so that'll help become more self sufficient once you get that underway.. all looking good! Have a great week! 👍
I think you are doing a great job and can see you are learning so much. The locals seem to be happy to help - just a matter of not being shy. Keep it up. Hi from Australia.
Como portuguesa, admiro muito este jovem casal. Fico muito feliz por saber que escolheram o meu 🇵🇹 para criarem raízes. Façam amigos portugueses e curtam seus vizinhos. Torna a vida menos dura.
That was a good price you paid for the land and the plans you have for the future, I am looking forward to seeing you two getting your hands dirty. :) PS: Don't forget to do the bracing on the kitchen structure.
Great to see how well you are getting on with your new life. I wondered if for storage ideas that ,if you have funds ,you could maybe get a shipping container or old porta cabin for storage. Love the videos and great to see your honesty about how good and bad life is. Best of luck.
We have thought about a shipping container, but it was costly and the access to our land would make it quite difficult to be delivered. Thanks for watching 😀
Mistake I made was not having a dry place for tools in the beginning....on our off grid homestead.. you did well..we use a composting toilet as well which for us is a five gallon bucket with a snap on toilet seat with a lid from the camping section at Walmart..peat moss in the bottom, peat moss over what you do and a pile we made also with pallets a few yards off in the woods..we cover it either leaves and dirt and pine needles..no odors,no issues..
You 2 are so cute and good people. I am 64 so I look at you as so very young. I wonder how old are you? You are doing so well and you will make this a very lovely place. But I do not understand that you need a work out place whith all the work you are doing to the land.
what an absolute bargain all that land with all those fruit trees aswell and you have already made such a huge improvement aswell, look forward to seeing the end result👍💪
Although we know this is a personal and private subject, we know a lot of people ask because they're curious as to whether or not this lifestyle is accessible to them. Our aim is to be as transparent and honest as possible 🤗

Como portuguesa, admiro muito este jovem casal. Fico muito feliz por saber que escolheram o meu 🇵🇹 para criarem raízes. Façam amigos portugueses e curtam seus vizinhos. Torna a vida menos dura.
Muito obrigada 🌻
Awesome guy's. 🙏✌️♥️🌎

Don't know if anyone has said but human waste is not to use as compost on food, it's okay for trees. You guys are awesome xx

That was a good price you paid for the land and the plans you have for the future, I am looking forward to seeing you two getting your hands dirty. :)
PS: Don't forget to do the bracing on the kitchen structure.
Hey Jim thanks for the kind words and sharing
Thanks for sharing and yes keeping the tools dry is key to start
02:12 Those stones look beautiful and not accidental! I bet they marked the entrance a long time ago.

You 2 are so cute and good people. I am 64 so I look at you as so very young. I wonder how old are you? You are doing so well and you will make this a very lovely place. But I do not understand that you need a work out place whith all the work you are doing to the land.
Thanks for the kind words Marianne 💖 I'm 28 and Dan is 34
