I would love to visit Ghost Ranch! I love Georgia O'Keefes art and I respect her as a genuine woman and Artist. I am also an Artist. And her, and her artwork has inspired me over the years. ❤️
I will get to see this place. I am 76 from Scotland and love Georgia O ‘ Keeffe’s art. This is my top priority before I leave this planet. How do I get here
From SFO book a flight to ABQ ( Albuquerque) . Spend the night and visit the Albuquerque Art Museum in Old Town as they have many of the works you are hoping to see. Please call ahead to be sure they are being shown, as they rotate the works and this has caused me distress. After a couple of days enjoying the art and culture in Albuquerque while your body adjusts to the altitude please head north to Santa Fe (SFO), There is so much art and culture to enjoy in Santa Fe please look at the Visitors Guides for Albuquerque and Santa Fe before you go, I do not want you to miss anything. La Posada, La Fonda and El Dorado are located pretty close to the museums and art, but you will want a car. I enjoy eating in Santa Fe as much as the art, Tomasitas in the rail road area is always great casual, New Mexico food and they will let you know if it is spicy. Be sure to let any wait staff know that you are not used to hot and spicey at any restaurant as some locals have trained restaurants to make things hot. You can find many types of food in New Mexico and most are delicious, so look in the guides and ask at the hotels. I have more suggestions but you are coming for the art! Depending what your other interests are you may want to schedule a few days just for the Santa Fe area. Depending on the season the Santa Fe Opera is breath- taking and the Flea Market a mile away is fun and can offer treasures of all sorts. Please take your time and enjoy from Santa Fe and Los Alamos you can manage day-trips to Abique and Ghost Ranch. Enjoy the scenery . I hope I return as I miss my homes in New Mexico, I am also on Facebook, if you have questions. So glad you will take your time to visit. .
And see the Georgia okeeffe museum in Santa Fe! Call the museum and book a tour of her studio, directions are easy to the tour office near Abiquiu and the inn there has gift shop and restaurant. I hope you love it as much as I do
Love Abique the Lake is so unique, an artwork itself. The red soil and leaf - less trees with heron form an amazing landscape, so glad to have spent time there. Wish I could remember the spelling, as spell check does not approve the way I spell the name no matter how I change it.
If you just take yourself to Abiquiu, and turn up the curving road off the highway up the hill past the post office - be prepared to discover that the little village of Abiquiu is a dump. It's tiny - not much more than a couple dozen homes - and many of them are derelict, a number of broken down single-wide trailers and other marginal structures, random piles of trash, etc - a lot of poverty and not at all what one would expect as the one-time home of a world-class artist - and certainly not what the custodians of her image would be forthcoming about. Her one-time home is off by itself at the end of one of the first few streets; the tours will take you straight to it and you won't see much of what Abiquiu is now. Her old, first home in the area IS nice and well-maintained, very much like the old photos, but once you see the village, it becomes clear why she moved to Ghost Ranch, about 12 miles down the highway, and which is truly spectacular...
Yes it’s ghost ranch I would love to see. Living in cold grey Scotland New Mexico looks beautiful. No wonder so many beautiful paintings. I live to visit south of France paint there I get no inspiration in Scotland.
Her Ghost Ranch home, which she lived in first, is not open to the public. Ghost Ranch itself is, though, and is filled with activity. Just look it up.
Beautiful, Thank You
Thank you! We very much appreciate the insight.

It would have been so interesting if O'Keeffe and Frieda Kahlo could have met each other. Two very strong women...
America’s finest painter
