Capote's expression when Groucho says "let me tell you about Henry James" is priceless

I can't get over how well mannered Truman was while Groucho Marx was taking over his spot. Different era.

Too bad we never got to hear what Truman had to say about Henry James.

I couldn't get over Groucho asking Capote why doesn't he get married at the end. Talking about how people who are married share taxes. I couldn't believe he brought that up. I liked Capotes response in the end after Groucho said that he couldn't give Capote what he was entitled to. When Capote said to Groucho...The best years of ur life.

Groucho`s self centered interjections are really interesting... said no one ever

Groucho says "Let me just tell you about Henry James" (?!) and then proceeds to continue to talk about himself. Cavett had no spine, in not telling him to shut the fuck up.

I agree with you Richard. I think it is hilarious to watch his restraint because I think underneath it he is feeling quite pissed off.

I think Groucho Marx was a funny man, but he was terribly rude here. I wanted to hear what Capote had to say about writing, and he kept getting run over by Groucho!

Let's face it, people were fkn freaked by gay people then. Bravo, Mr. Capote. Groucho doesn't get it.

Strange that Capote makes a point claiming that "taking drugs and writing doesn't work", when it is virtually certain that he could be considered an addict at the time this interview took place.

"Who do you suggest I get married to?"

He was a Libra. Libras are all about justice. He wanted the glaring truth out. The high society didn't like that when he wanted the truth out, that was their dirty laundry. He wasn't arrogant, he was the real deal. Brave enough to live openly gay at that time was actually very brave. What reporters label with words like ''tragedy'' ''failed'' etc. only words to do their job which is shocking the crowd over and over with big newspaper words, that's all. None of us are black & white, we are all complicated individuals but not as openly as Capote was. ''He looked at me and tears came into his eyes, and put his hand on my arm and he said Al 'n' he said let me go, I want to go.'' - and the ''glaring truth'' went with him. I salute the man! Rest in peace.

As Groucho got older he was less and less able to be anything but the center of attention. Truman was also a tremendous ego, so having the two of them together was never going to go well. Maybe if this were the Groucho of 1930, things would have gone differently. This show was taped in May 1971, pretty much the last of Groucho being fully cogent. He suffered a series of small strokes later that year and steadily declined until his death in 1977.

That's correct, but I don't think he was writing at this point either...probably why he said that...

Although Groucho was a great comedian, I hated to see him on game shows or shows like this because he thought it was all about
him. On this show, he had already had his segment. When Truman came out, he should have kept his mouth shut. The producer
should have pulled him off of the set during the break. He went way overboard here. In the early 60's he was on the TV show
"Whats My Line" All he did the entire show was constantly interrupt everyone and joked around and wasted a lot of
air time. It was all about him as far as Groucho was concerned.
