If you can invest 1cr for 20-30 years than go for direct stock investing and pick up 20 stocks (mixture of small cap, mid cap and large cap) investing 5 lakh in each. Even if 3-4 stocks will give 20+ cagr you would be huge. 25% cagr on 20 lakh (4 stocks) for 30 years will give you nearly 160 crores.
    Else go for mutual fund.

Do not invest in equity for the sake of just 12% return.
Invest in high-quality companies with good growth prospects for the long term.
Consider small-cap stocks if you have the time and inclination.
Avoid funds or subscriptions that just promise 12% return.
Avoid large-cap stocks if your investment horizon is 5 years or less.
Be clear about your investment goals: protect or grow capital.
