Again, it's good to hear your honest feelings along the way. Having reloaded your pack with that extra weight - although necessary - can't have helped the matter.

    Excellent video. I walked from Edinburgh to Scourie in Spring 2019; unfortunately the weather and the MOD prevented my ongoing to CW. That walk was continuation of my 2018 walk which started in Dover. I am planning a third attempt at getting to the Cape from the GB south coast (now postponed twice due to the pandemic) next Spring.
    I joined the CW trail at Oykel Bridge and walked the route to Inchnadamph in reasonable weather, but as a solo walker and having studied the maps carefully I decided to road walk to Scourie (apart from using the track north of Ardvreck Castle where I camped) as that is where I decided my walk would was destined to finish. Next spring I will follow the same route (knees, MOD, God and weather willing) and maybe use a track from Duartmore Bridge to Lochstack Lodge otherwise going again via Scourie involves a long detour on the road west for Laxford Bridge.
    From the map and the CW Trail guides, I have assessed that being a solo walker in my early sixties the route north from Inchnadamph is too risky, and your video rather confirms this for me. I think I would be foolish going via Glen Coul and Dubh because of its seriously wild country nature; the rescue services would question my wisdom I think! Do you agree? I love wild country but I also know my limits.
    The road walk to Scourie was fine. The road was not too busy and the grass verges were generally generous enough to be off the tarmac; main hazard was speeding motorhomes!
    Best wishes for the rest of your journey by the way :)

    • @WalkWithWallace
      @WalkWithWallace  3 года назад +1

      Early 60s is still young and you sound really experienced, I don't think MRT would question your wisdom at all. Pounding tarmac takes its toll on your feet and joints plus the amount of motorhomes now. I'd be more inclined to mix it up with some of the rough country too.

    Two days from Schoolhouse to Glen Coul is hard going. Gave me a hamstring cramp, which was painful. The nice thing, though, was being paralleled by an otter along Loch Beag. the subject of re-supply seems interesting. Is there no where on the trail you can buy dehydrated food? I know the camping store in Ullapool does but I would have thought some enterprising shopkeepers might have got in on the act.

    • @WalkWithWallace
      @WalkWithWallace  3 года назад +1

      Plenty shops to buy confectionery etc, but not so many sell the camping meals. If you you're eating pasta etc you'd probably pull it off. But most people post resupply parcels. Iain's Dad living in Ullapool agreed to do two resupply points for us, plus we had parcels posted back in Kintail.

      Managed to straighten it a bit more, still bugs me though. 😆 Got a spare Leki pole if I don't mind an odd pair.

    Great video Robin but that last bit looked like a slog.
    Where did you get your waterbottle carriers from? I could do with something like that. TIA.

    • @WalkWithWallace
      @WalkWithWallace  3 года назад +1

      It was mate, didn't look far on the map, but the terrain wasn't great at all. The water bottle carriers are standard with the rucksack. But have a look at Treadlite gear, they might stock something very similar:

      Hi Wossa, I'm still learning myself. But buy a nice tripod and do lots of footage that isn't just hand held. Different angles, views and walk in/out shots. Don't waffle on, edit out all the fluff. Watch some tutorials on here, how to make travel videos can be useful. Good luck. 😊 👍🏻
