This is a very common question for local business owners who are just starting out and want to promote their business online.
And while Google My Business is, in my opinion, the most effective tool to get new customers, it can also be fairly confusing if you've never used it before.

Create a google business listing for a start. Make sure you use tour home address and not the address of the agency otherwise your listing will be filtered out.

It works based on location. But let's say I live in New York and decide to go on vacation in London and do some research on Google before my trip for "best restaurant london chelsea". Google will show the Google business listings for those restaurants. Hope this makes sense

Missed one thing though. Where do the profiles come from in the first place? Is Google creating them automatically? And do everyone get such a profile or is there some selection from Google's part?
Hi Michael. Google can create business profiles automatically based on the information it finds on the internet. If there isn't any information available, business owners will have to create a profile from scratch to get listed in results.

Hi it seems like I have a site with google my business but I do not know how to log in into it. I do not understand because it seems like I do not have a google my business profile but I have a site. What is going on?
Search for your business name. If you see a google business profile either google created or someone else did. Make sure you claim it then you’ll have access to the website

How come google my business is only showing 10 results for businesses in the UK, is it a glitch?
Not sure what you mean. I can definitely see more than 10 results
Seems to be on mobiles when searching for a business in a city for example painters in London if you select more businesses it is only showing 10 results and when scrolled down its the same 10

I want to believe this is not a problem of not having a physical office.
Rather it has to do with your website content not being able to hold their attention and convincing them to take action.

Luc I have watched two of your videos on the Google listing, The blue button / call to action and the post are not showing up on our listing? I looked at your Google my business listing (left a review) and they are not there either. Question has Google changed this or do I have something turned off where I can not see the post or the call to action button? Thank you
The call to action button will show up only for specific verticals. You need to unable the text message option. Not sure why your posts are not showing. That's a very standard functionality almost 100% of businesses have access to.
How is it different than Business Profile? I get the listing on the right in my account and it says "Business Profile Manager" and I have my business and my customer's businesses there. I don't see a difference between "Google My Business" and "Business Profile Manager" in my Google account... can you explain? This just seems like standard "local seo."
Google just renamed Google my business to Google business profile so they are the same thing.

@@rankingacademy Why should a local only business hire an SEO consultant if they already have Google My Business? I contacted a lead and they said we have Google My Business and that's all they need, don't need SEO, they just make $1000 from Google My Business. They only work in a small geographic location. Can you go over this?
Sir we changed the business name in google my business but not able to change the short name its showing as (You can no longer create or edit short names. Short names and URLs that already exist will still work.)
if i delete this can create a new short name or cannot create new short name
The short name functionality is no longer working. Google discarded it a few months ago

Pretty certain google, FB and other platforms will either be taken down or restructured very soon. Any other options like this that are beneficial to small businesses?
I doubt very much Google My Business will be taken down any time soon. As a matter of fact it is likely to grow even bigger as they 've invested a lot of time and money on it recently. If anything they might charge for it

There are many other options. Bing for business is another one for example. Unfortunately none of them will match with the Google My Business pulling power
