  • Jackpot is the best kept secret on the North Shore of Minnesota! This just might be the best overall trail in Minnesota! Jackpot and High Climber are professionally built machine flow trails by Rock Solid Trail Contractors. Together they combine for about 15 miles of scenic flow through the forests and atop the Sawtooth Mountains. It's an epic ride with amazing scenery on a trail that is incredibly well built. The trails are rated as blue, with optional features everywhere. The builders did an incredible job building a trail that's accessible to most riders, but more advanced riders will have a blast shredding all the booters, berms, rollers, rock jumps and other features that fill the trail. I rode this trail for the first time last fall by accident, I was checking out some of the trails at Tofte, and happened to discover the Jackpot trail that just keep on going and ended up riding that trail all day. For this ride, I started north at the High Climber trail at Lutsen and rode south onto Jackpot towards Tofte, this is the route I recommend taking if you ride it one way. This trail is a blast and I can't recommend it enough, come up North and hit the Jackpot!
    Thanks for watching!

    Coming in from Canada Oct 7th, some people I meet in Thunder Bay Ont told me about this place. Added it to my bucket list and super excited to come ride there

    Heading there to the north shore in a couple days. I think I need to add this to the list. Thanks for the video.

      Absolutely add this one to the list! The best flow trail in Minnesota and one of the best overall trail riding experiences climbing up and down the Sawtooth "Mountains" . It's a great change in pace, literally, from the rugged, slow rocky trails next door at Split Rock Wilds.

      Got my chance at it today. What a trail! I cannot believe how much work went into this trail. It is a work of art. The berms are amazing. I can tell people are getting out there and riding it. Dirt was hero today. The only gripe I have is that they did a lot of rock work for drainage, which is cool but it seems they intentionally made them as rough as possible and you end up hitting these at speed and immediately have to go up a climb afterwards. So in many instances, you are having to brake check right before a steep techy climb. That is my main gripe but overall sick trail.

      @@EricF1984 Glad you got to ride the best flow trail in Minnesota! The builders, Rock Solid Trail Contractors, are known for using artificial rock armor wherever they can and sometimes the rock work can be a bit overdone. It must have taken so much work to build this massive oversized flow trail in the remote sawtooth mountains, it's definitely an experience to ride!

    Seriously awesome looking trail. A bit of everything which is always a good thing! I can dig it and killer riding as always. Love all the rocks and that chunky roll this is sick!

      Rock is the best surface and features to ride, and they made use of all the natural terrain there! This trail is epic, probably my favorite overall trail in MN that I’ve ridden!

      Thanks man, it's an amazing trail! Everything on it just seems to work, but it's more fun riding it on the Lutsen to Tofte direction. I hope you get up there for a ride, this is a trail that you can really shred!

      Thanks, you got an epic day of riding ahead of you because this is probably the best overall trail in Minnesota! Bring tons of water and food! If you plan to ride one direction I'd recommend starting North in Lutsen!

    Sick. I’m still editing my video on Jackpot + HighClimber as I’ve kinda gone down a rabbithole. Such a fun damn trail and I think I agree with your take on direction, it did seem to flow a bit better Lutsen to Tofte but was damn fun the other way as well. I was up in Grand Marais on vacation and on the second to last day they announced the Jackpot was dry enough to ride. The Britton Peak trails are looking super fun too. I hit that drop but saw they had a bunch of side hits throughout.

      It's a great trail ridden either direction, but when riding North to Lutsen I noticed a had to turn back around to ride down some of the really fun sections more often when going South to Tofte. The trails around Britton Peak seem to be really well made, they're just overshadowed by Jackpot, maybe I'll have to check them out finally if I get back up there for the Split Rock Wilds trails. Looking forward to your take on this trail, it's definitely a lot of footage!

    I just rode this both directions (out and back) and I do think the trail works better from Lutsen to Tofte, It’s a blast both directions though and I highly recommend an out and back. Some will have to dig deep to do this though but the struggle is worth it after how good food and and a shower feels. Good work on that Double Black diamond. I took the riders left line huck and got real nose heavy (almost OTB) as it is very awkward to pull up on it for whatever reason (we can blame the XL bikes here, lol). It’s like the back end gets hung up a little. I tried to over exaggerate the huck on a second go and still came down a little front heavy the second time. I’ll probably give the riders right line a try next time. It’s cool they have this feature out there though.

      This trail is a blast either route, I need to get up there a third time to ride some of the features I either missed or was too tired for. I think I might do an out an back, just not at a “GoPro footage” level. I’m glad they have that signature feature, I though about hucking off the left but decided not to with 130/150mm travel. The right line is extremely technical, lots of pedal positioning awareness and timing the front wheel huck...it is rollable too and modern slacked geometry would help tame that feature!

  • @gregkosinski2303
    @gregkosinski2303 2 года назад +1

    lol that feature at around 12:30... seems kind of strange. It looks like it would be hard to make it feel natural.

    • @AndrewGehn
      @AndrewGehn  2 года назад

      It's one of the most awkward trail features I've ever ridden. There's a downward slope right before where you need to pop off the front tire to have enough clearance to roll it...can't get enough speed to cleanly huck down it because of the sharp, uphill turn before it. It's a pretty ridiculous looking feature in person but I'm glad the trailbuilders made it.

    Ifyou're just going to ride it one way, is there a nice asphalt trail/road/chill singletrack to go the other way?

    • @AndrewGehn

      I think the North Star Bicycle Trail runs alongside Highway 61 for most of that area of the north shore of MN. If not, Highway 61 is the road to take back to the other trailhead.
