    @SplitSniper7 Yep, other citrus fruits work! Anything with an acid inside actually works. In fact, even potatoes work :) There is a weak acid in those as well!

    You should of explain more what makes the penny ground? It also has zinc, right?

    • @sciencemadeeasy3384
      @sciencemadeeasy3384 9 лет назад

      The penny has a copper outside and a zinc inside. The zinc of the penny doesn't come into contact with the lemon.

  • @TheGoodContent37
    @TheGoodContent37 12 лет назад

    Why does the penny attracts the zinc electrons? Because it doesn't oxidize with lemon acid?

  • @inventhead
    @inventhead 12 лет назад

    whats a volt ? well it 's 1ooo,ooo million electrons in flow that = 1 volt its basic math and the lemon battery has a anode and a cathode like most other kinds made and sold thay dont last to long tho if you look at how its made we see its allso a acid diode has same parts for electrode now we can make a self powering transistor and it can be recharged to a point that its self run

    I hate that this is backwards from what the atoms are actually doing. The zinc isn’t negative it’s more possible after losing electrons. I think electrical engineers got lazy somewhere along the way and just didn’t feel like dealing with negative numbers lol

    in theory, if 100 lemons shown in the video are connected, can it power up a cell phone?

    • @gabrielquiros9935

      not reallty

    • @gabrielquiros9935
      @gabrielquiros9935 10 лет назад +1

      Gabriel Quiros you have to use more like 1000
      lemons

    • @ElectricExperimentsRobert33
      @ElectricExperimentsRobert33 10 лет назад +1

      Connect 100 lemons in series you would have a voltage of about 75-80 volts. In theory, a mobile phone would be kindled, indeed, it would burn at this voltage, but the current that would occur with 100 lemons in series is low from the point of view of the absorption of the phone. You should do a test with a phone used to see the result ..

    • @ElectricExperimentsRobert33
      @ElectricExperimentsRobert33 10 лет назад

      Electric Experiments Doing a rough calculation, using a mobile phone that works at 7-8 volts, should be connected in series to get 10 lemons 7-8 volts. Connected in parallel to these other 9 rows of 10 lemons in series. In this way, certainly the phone works well.

    Thanks Jason! My nephew will love this experiment. Reminds me of redox reactions back in general chemistry. I also have a question for you. How much knowledge in the chemistry subject is required in the field of electrical and mechanical engineering? I always wanted to ask that question because the engineers build the tools that are required for experiments. For example, we did an experiment on measuring H+ ions in a pH buffer solution with a digital pH meter.
