One of the best quotes ever in A Farewell to Arms.... "I was blown up while eating cheese"

    Hi there
I doing research for my essay and I really enjoyed your review. I watched the 1957 movie last week with Rock Hudson. I have to say I was really shocked by the ending but at the same time I feel Hemingway wanted this story to reflect war and loss during those times. Overall, it’s a book I will definitely read again.

The framing of this more recent video is the best so far. Head Up, front and center

    Enjoyed your review.
Like you, I like _The Sun Also Rises_ the most, but I think some of Hemingway’s most beautiful writing is in _A Farewell to Arms_.
The amount of drinking you describe is an aspect of the book I had forgotten. I remember hidden vermouth bottles and the brandy on the boat.

I love this book! Like you, I'm not sure if I can call it my favourite Hemingway novel - but my, oh my what an ending!
I also recently picked up The Snows of Kilimanjaro, so I'm looking forward to reading more of his short stories

I never really understood alcoholism until this novel... Before the end, I felt drunk... Strange feeling... Hence three questions came to my mind: first, what was his budget in drinks, where did he get the money to live this life, and is working for the military the cheapest way to a jet-setting life?
