3:18 - Reminds me of my old VW Karmann-Ghia with the dodgy electrics. Every time I honked the horn a fuse blew - I think that took out the brake lights. Maybe that was a separate issue. Being young and dumb I did a makeshift fix by wiring in a lamp switch to bypass the brake switch. Had to remember to toggle that switch (taped to the side of the shift knob) when I stepped on the brakes if there was someone behind me. And the floor of that VW was littered with burned out little glass Bussman fuses and the distinctive little yellow metal tins they were sold in. Never did get around to replacing that brake switch. RUclips and kind/helpful people like you make tasks like this so much easier today.
The Volkswagen was pretty famous for electrical problem period my VW camper had a bypass ignition switch and used a do it yourself ignition button. You put the key in the ignition then push the button. I never had a Karmann Ghia but I did have a VW fastback that had two carburetors that made me cry. I never could get the car to run right once it started running hot. I think I wore out that book the complete idiot's guide to Volkswagen repair. Here is the video I made about it years ago ruclips.net/video/axyTR97du_g/видео.html
I’ve used that electronic cleaner on electric guitars and amplifiers ,for decades , and even my digital devices. Never had a problem. And yes, it’s a good idea to turn power off to the device, but I confess that I have used it on things that were powered up but I never had an incident. To be safe , cut the power. Once, while trying to stop the points on a pump pressure controller from sticking, I gave it a squirt of WD-40. As soon as it broke free, it sparked and ignited the solvent. I reacted by smothering it with my bare hand on instinct (didn’t want to burn my house down) and got a good shock. Don’t do that! Turn off the power before applying solvents! They will evaporate shortly. You know what? When I think about stuff like this, I miss driving less and less.
Appreciate you putting this together. Hope I never need it😁 Thanks for sharing.
I got asked this question by a viewer and thought it would make a good YT video, thanks for watching Richard!
