I don't know why people complaining that The Growlers changed, City Club and Chinese Fountain are pretty much the same style, so much that they can smoothly transition between songs.

yeah its funny. The new album has more Julien influence obviously, but it's basically the same songwriting with different production. It's a super interesting change. I love it, and i love their old sound.

City Club and Chinese Fountain are not the same style. You can feel a progression from one album to the other, but you can't just say they are pretty much the same style.

Perfect time to name drop Dylan, since everyone is shitting on them for their new sound. Bands evolve. There will be other albums, other sounds.

Maybe we aren't supposed to like every band's trajectory? Fans drop off and jump on with directions that their music take. I can think of dozens of bands that I only like the last 10 years of their career and inversely only like earlier material of certain bands. It's always bold for a band to make a jump but, fuck it... playing the same shit over and over can make you go insane. It's ok to stop liking a band. If a band goes in another direction, that's their right. It's also your right to like or not.
I am so late on the Growlers that I have all their albums to explore. I like grimey shit and I like the over produced dance stuff too. Either way, the Dude has a distinctive set of pipes....

The Strokes are my favourite, and I know all the words to all of Comedown Machine, but still, I went back and listened through the entire thing after seeing what you said.
I guess there's a similar overall vibe, but honestly, I don't see really any major similarities at all with that and this.
Like MAYBE Welcome To japan, but not even cause that has more of a funk basis to it.

    • @BassLineProductionsI

@@concretebaron5759 John Lennon said the Beatles were bigger than Jesus / as much as I do like Brooks, he does not resemble Bob Dylan in any way other than being a singer and songwriter? The style of song, contents, and lack of Brooks actually playing an instrument make him world's different from Dylan, which isn't a bad thing they sing in entirely different genres
