Everyone likes to talk about who the greatest is in every weight class, but what about second place? what about the ones who just fell short to the current GOAT but had a few complications here and there? In this video I went through every weight class and picked out the second greatest of all time
I would actually out Stipe at #2. Not losing for 10 years is nuts. THINK ABOUT THAT FOR A SECOND! 10 YEARS. Fedor is #1 for me
not losing for __ amount of time means NOTHING if you arent fighting and beating good competition
Stipe clears as the HW GOAT cuz he actually fought in the UFC against the best and the matchmaking for PRIDE (and most Japanese MMA promotions) at that time was really sus. There's a lot of doubt that some of Fedor's wins weren't planned. Also, he was given the chance to join the UFC and he decided not to cement his legacy in the best promotion on the planet. That's like saying a EuroLeague basketball player is the GOAT when they never played in the NBA

Yeah, he beat Aldo and Max not twice but three times it’s like you can never decide whether Jose Aldo is in his prime or not he’s beaten good guys even when he was like 35 is just hypocrisy. While Jones has far more defences, you can argue they weren’t as good as Volks Ws, aside from his 1 DC win, as Volk has 4 Ws over Aldo and Holloway, both are top 10 fighters of all time. Also Jones popped multiple times for steroids which brings him down in my ranking. I don’t have a no 1 goat but my top 3 consist of GSP, Mighty Mouse and Volk

I’m very confused about what you said about Silvas comp vs Izzy’s comp because that’s literally one of Silvas biggest critiques…dude fought plumbers and teachers while Izzy fought WAAAAAY better comp like it’s not even close.
I just got to that part of the video and paused to see if someone else had commented this... Izzys competition is 100x better than Silvas, its one of the main if not only arguments for Izzy being the better MW.

Prime Fedor is the greatest "heavyweight" of all time. His streak at heavyweight is miles above everyone else in MMA history.
Max holloway is the second greatest feather weight of all time. I view all his fights almost like title. Defenses. If it wasn't for Volk, he would undeniably be the best with a massive streak right now.

I think the 2nd best WW is probably Matt Hughes, he was legendary, plus Usman had 5 defences against 3 guys, one of which was never a great contendor.

Figuereido is an underrated fighter
Sterling title reign was quite flukey: dq win over yan, split decision win over yan, tko win over 1 armed dillashaw, split decision win over cejudo
The only flukey thing was the knee which was Yan’s fault. TJ wasn’t one armed until after Aljo took him down, with TJ on record saying he had that same injury when he won and defended the belt against Cody. And even then, Aljo entered the fight with a torn bicep and a neck injury that required surgery…which Cejudo attacked said neck injury in their fight and Aljo still won. Another thing is that all 3 of them were stylistic nightmare matchups for Aljo. Amazing defensive grapplers which shuts down Aljo’s main path to victory, while all being better strikers than him on the feet in paper. All 3 of his defenses share those 3 traits. Hardest matchups possible for him and he won. UFC even gave him another matchup with that archetype in Kattar but the there’s a skill difference between championship level BWs and top 10 FWs so it didn’t look as tough despite Kattar being more ‘dangerous’

Silva came in his later age and just destroyed his division. He has an incredible win streak and he is an absolute legend, TOP-5 or TOP-3 of all time. Of course, he has his losses too, but he just became old, Adesanya started to lose much earlier

Usman lost twice against Edwards. Usman won the first fight. Edwards won the rematch by KO and also won the trilogy by majority decision.

There isn't many fighters more overrated than Stipe Miocic. Sure he's decently technical at boxing, decent power with a real legitimate wrestling threat, but look at his resume:
Mark Hunt, 40 year old former fedor victim, took 5 rounds
Andrei Arlovski, 37 year old badly slowing fedor victim who always had chin issues
Fabricio Werdum, 38 year old who did beat fedor, but fought stipe by charging at him winging random short punches TWICE and getting clipped.
Alistair Overeem, didn't even earn a shot at fedor, 36 years old, knocked out 10 times. In that fight he got dropped and won due to a completely telegraphed oblique kick from overeem that he wound up and turned his back into (not sure what he was thinking). This was Stipes Worst performance ever skillswise (his chin giving out in cormier 1 doesn't count).
JDS, Post 2 brutal Cain beatings AND a Overeem KO loss.
Francis Ngannou, His best win. Stipe had some neat lateral movement and takedowns, but obviously Ngannou got much much better.
Daniel Cormier 1,2 and 3, Light Heavyweight. Took him 2 camps and 5 combined rounds to figure out his weakness to body shot, something which Josh Barnett, washed Anderson Silva and Jon Jones figured out in much less time or much less tape to study.
Francis Ngannou 2: Stipe was clearly old, no shame here.
None of those fighters were bad, in fact plenty were good, but for a Heavyweight GOAT resume, It just doesn't stack up.
