That was the longest product review I've ever watched. I mean that in a good way. The two of you are entertaining and informative and that's a combination that's hard to find sometimes. Great job.
Another great video guys and well done regards the weight loss Toby. I have the Touareg suit and agree with totally regards the comfort and the ability to easily tailor it to your shape. However, after 2 years it lost its waterproofing and wind proofing so was no longer suitable for winter riding; the jacket also gets quite dirty in a short time and it no longer looks a suit as the two pieces become different colours. Having said that, I did wear the suit most days through all conditions so it was well exposed to the elements. The Richa signs on the arms wore off on mine revealing a tatty look; a friend of mine who also had the jacket, informed me that during a wash the red in those arm signs ran and turned the whole jacket pink! My conclusion is that it did its job for a certain period and was value for money. I now have a Rukka suit, following your recommendation and much prefer it although I have been wearing a leather jacket and armoured jeans for most of the summer. Now that autumn has arrived, it's back to the Rukka. Keep up the good work and entertainment; cheers, Andy
+Andrew Tofts hey matey, thanks so much for the kind words as it means a lot. Glad your enjoying the videos as we enjoy making them too :) I know what u mean about the suit getting dirty quickly and hopefully in time I can replace my rukka suit as it is a great suit but for the price the richa is awesome. Ride safe :)
Just to say there are zipped pockets just below the chest vents. These are just right for storing the chest vent pocket fronts. I have had the suit for about two years and it's a great. The only issue I have is that in the winter I have to wear cycling arm warmers because the forearm zips let the cold in.
Having the old Richa Rix 2 jacket In fluorescent yellow, i'am a Richa fan. Looking at the Touareg jacket, but they don't make it in Fluorescent color, hoping for new colors with fluorescent in 2018 then i will be buying one
Congrats on the weight loss Toby, looking good mate. Good review of the suit but after years of using similar basically 3 layer systems I'm going down the gortex path I think. I have had enough of having to put in the wet weather liner whenever it look likes rain. And I found that they all fail after 2-3 years anyway. Getting expensive tastes as I get older ! Keep up the good work, really enjoying your channel.
+Ray MCCABE thanks Ray :) I know what you mean with a 3 layer system as both have pros and cons but I do love rukka but weight loss is expensive. Hahaha. Ride safe mate.
Hey mate. For a warmer climate the jeans are good. Have worn them before and are good for a days ride but as we spend days on the bike they are sometimes a little impractical if it rains etc. But the bmw ones are comfy but generally don’t wear them. Might change if we move to warmer climates though :)
Thanks for the quick feedback - much appreciated. Looking to have options for day rides or local runs when putting on the textiles particularly in summer feels a bit heavy and hot - but they don't come cheap - did a run to polzeath during the summer for a weekend away - had proper sunshine and was melting in the textiles so was thinking the jeans may be a little cooler.
No probs matey. Mind you the textile tends to be lighter and if you look for ones with vents like the Touareg suits it would keep you cool. And they are a good price too
Thank you so much for the information! I guess you changed it by now, but do you remember if it is possible to wear the thermal layer without the waterproof layer?
Hi fellas. I just bought this suit today 03/01/2020, but then again, i do live like 20km from the factory in Belgium. The touareg 2 is now the more recent kit, but like i said, they still do have them, although i dont think they ship them out anymore... i dont know. The big pocket on the back is to store the membrane when you take it out along the way or you take it out at home but still want to have it with you on the ride.
Looking noticeably trimmer there Toby. For those on a budget the RST Adventure 2 Jacket has more vents than that and the panels are stored in the jacket so you won't loose any parts, it also has the full arm double zip and fitment for a Camelback. The trousers also have a large mesh panel. I wear mine all year round, so that's as low as -7 up to +30. Good video guys, shame the dog in the background found it so boring ;-)
+DervMan hahha thanks matey. The dog loved it :) Hadn't looked at the RST as I saw this suit and wanted a BMW rally's suit but this one was much cheaper. Hehhe
Major issue with these type jackets, (and I own the RST Adventure), is when you are in a hot but wet environment you need the waterproof liner fitted or you get soaked but then it turns into a mobile sauna and is extremely uncomfortable especially if you are doing any walking around. I am am going to be switching to a GoreTex shell type jacket that I can then choose my own layers underneath as needed. Mainly looking at the BMW Enduroguard suit Ocean at Falmouth have ordered one in for me to get my hands on and try on, should be here at the end of the month as it is proving so popular that they can't get them fast enough.
Nice review. Love your videos and your sense of humor. Anyway, that's a nice gear but, for me, a little bit robocop for everyday commuting. I'm about to decide for the BMW Tourshell 2017, and unfortunately there's not much information about it in the internet. Do you have any kind of experience or information with that? Thanks for the video and hope to see you soon back to Portugal.
+Rui Cunha hey mate, thanks for the kind words. It means a lot. Haven't got much experience about the tourshell unfortunately but generally the bmw kit is great, just a little pricy ;) Will be back in Portugal next year a couple of times. Can't wait! Love it there :)
Rui Cunha I have the 2014 tourshell, great suit, waterproof even in heavy rain. I was travelling for 6 hours and heavy rain and stayed dry on the body. The inner jacket can be removed and the jacket cools well when opening the vents. The protection is great too with large protection area and back protector. The trousers dont have vents so can get warm. The cuffs on the pre 2017 model are closed with velcro and get loose but is improved in the 2017 model. Look at the pictures for the differences. It might be too warm for the Portuguese clinate though.
Thanks for your comment, Vriendelijkegroet. That was very helpful. Of course I'll use it for the winter which can be, here in northern, cold and rainy with temperature reaching sometimes 2~4~6ºC. So, I guess I'll have to choose and buy another one for summer... ☹️
RiderCamTV Glad to hear it, cheers mate! Just sprung for one, waiting for the postie. Looks like it was about the last one on eBay, think they may be discontinued.
Thanks for great review. I agree the pockets are too small and need to be vertical and zipped to hold a mobile securely, when compared to my Hein Gericke. the 2 xl is smaller than the 2xl hein gericke. wonderful quality just not practical enough
Hi lads, I use the " normal" textiles, Ixis etc, on your trips would you suggest an over rain suit in really wet weather, or do you deen it unnecessary?
Hi Glyn. they should be good, but the main thing is to make sure if you are going somewhere cold that the suite keeps you warm and to have a waterproof suit is a god send. Taking an oversuit just incase is always good to, especially where the textile suites retain the water rather than bead off as they get heavy and cold, so i would use an oversuit

+To and Fro thanks you so much for the kind words, it really does mean a lot and we love making the videos :)

Good review in depth you covered all the bits I try to answer , off the Damerells to look at one , may see you about in Kernow

Thanks for the info matey. I got that too in the colder weather ;)
Great video. Lots of useful info. Well done Chaps!

i love your videos, they are so informative and a bit of poking jokes , thanks a tonne

Very informative - thanks guys - looking to upgrade my gear so good info - congrats on the weightloss too
+Gary Smythe thanks matey. I really like this suit ;)
Hello guys - just going back over a few videos and wondered if you had worn or considered motorcycle jeans?
Hey mate. For a warmer climate the jeans are good. Have worn them before and are good for a days ride but as we spend days on the bike they are sometimes a little impractical if it rains etc. But the bmw ones are comfy but generally don’t wear them. this BMW equipment (the former), is manufactured by Rukka, now the NEW equipment of the "bm" is apparently manufactured by Alpinestars.
+Sérgio André ah, that may explain it :)

+Matt very true Matt. It is like a sauna when hot and wet. Fortunately the UK doesn’t get much of that weather. Hahahha
Briliant jacket the rst , ive had 2

Hi guys, great review many thanks! Can i ask how the jacket has held up since the review, and how the waterproofing performed?
Hey James, thanks for the kind words. It’s a great jacket and has held up well. Been through some really heavy downpours and didn’t get wet at all :)
RiderCamTV Glad to hear it, cheers mate! Just sprung for one, waiting for the postie. Looks like it was about the last one on eBay, think they may be discontinued.
Will be a shame if they discontinue it as the price point and functionality is a great value for money. Hope you enjoy it. Ride safe buddy :)
Richa confirmed in an email that it is discontinued but is to be replaced by the Touareg 2 next year.
Did you try touareg 2.. ? Should be nice a review to that one too ;)
Thanks for great review. I agree the pockets are too small and need to be vertical and zipped to hold a mobile securely, when compared to my Hein Gericke. the 2 xl is smaller than the 2xl hein gericke. wonderful quality just not practical enough
