I've done an used wallets with this method for more than a year, you can make really thin wallets that don't damage your pants and go well on the pocket... They do spark conversations
How did I ever miss this tutorial. I spend hours a days checking out what's available on RUclips. This is great! I have been collecting plastic bags for months and now I've got another project to do. What fun! Thanks for sharing.
Nice video. Both the "solidification" and the sewing part are ideas that don't come intuitively in mind when thinking of plastic but it's actually great and reliable. Good job here !
I now have use for all the ripped plastic bags thank you. keep on savings our planet people are you guys give me hope for our children's children future ✌️
Great tutorial! I think there should be recycling courses in school instead of just Home Economics- this is the future of our world and people need to learn How to recycle. We have become quite spoiled in how we live our lives with “throw away” habits. Gentlemen- you are showing us that anyone can try this with basic tools And that a sewing machine does not make a man less masculine!, Thank you!
What about melting the fabric textile in between two thinner (two ply) sheets of this material? Should make it more flexible/durable. Like a cotton/polyester/rayon sandwich.
With this technique of making plastic sheets or even a tarp and your extruded boards you could try to make a tent or something simillar, now that would be a great thing: recicled home :) Great work btw
If I can fuse plastic bags together I can make custom covers for bench tools. Or my air conditioner. Or tarps. Or shade cloths for the garden for mid summer.
This would be an epic way to make some waterproof jeans. I wonder if there's enough room for it to melt through the fabric. Another idea could be sewing them onto jeans, much like people do with leather (leather on the front of jeans is great for welders) or like when I was in construction my foreman always had patches sewn on his knees for durability and to cushion his old knees without needing kneepads. I'm just thinking I'd 100% rather spend some time and electricity to make myself some rain gear instead of buying some.. Now just imagine a guy out in the rain with a jacket and pants that look like that patchwork bag you showed at the end.. LOL
Neat trick man, good strong tote bag from the thin one time use bags. In the UK the shops have to charge £0.05 for the single use bags. So now you don't find quite so many bags as raw material, but this is a great idea. Well done
Lol, met the new kindergarten teacher today. Nice guy. Now he's a guest here at this channel i subscribed to two days ago. Cool way to repurpose those plastic bags
I would consider using polyester thread and not cotton thread when sewing the bags. Because when these bags get recycled again then the cottonthread is a contamination. What do you think?
It would still be a "contamination". Actually almost all plastic bags are polyethylene and wouldn't mix with polyester even if you tried to melt them together. Although maybe you could obtain a composite that would work.
Did you make a school bag? I really don't want to keep buying panniers(bike bags) that don't last long, I might give it a go. I was thinking where I could source good fabric, free is a much better choice!
OMG I was looking to buy clear plastic vinyl for sewing, but now I am absolutely going to give this a try. I'm putting together a video on how to reuse plastic bags, but I never thought to recreate the plastic into a new form with just an iron like this, cannot wait to try!! Thanks so much for sharing :)
Are the bags used number 2 or 4 plastic? What is the best type of sewing machine needle for this? I have been saving all the bags from the grocery store that we’ve had to use while we were doing grocery collection during pandemic. I’ve been wanting to do a project with them
I used freezer paper - one on top and one beneath the plastic bag sheet and it stuck to the bag such that it cannot be separated without leaving hideous remnants behind. Where did I go wrong? But...looks nice with the freezer paper embedded on it and going to finish it and use it as a grocery bag. Let's hope it looks good!
If you're making new bags from old bags you should try plarn. Then you don't need irons and paper and sewing machines. You generally need knitting-level skills though there are ways around that as well. Dave if you haven't seen plarn yet plenty of youtube vids....
Question: Would it work to just fuse the seams rather than sewing? I don't see why not, but maybe doing it this way helps avoid a sharp structural weakpoint that could fail? I'm not likely to make tote bags anytime soon, but I'm definitely going to try fusing smaller film into larger pieces, as well as thickening. Seems useful for patching or reeinforcing for example a damaged tarp. Any experience from fusing polypropylene films? I don't think PP is used much in shopping bags, but it's used in many of the sturdier trash bags because it tend to be more resistant to tearing.
Hey, find a way to do this with plastic straws. There is so much waste. If they are bereft of plastic straws or stir sticks, try something else. Do you have family outside of Ca? Share the video! Do whatever you can. And, thank you☺
Cannot focus. Bjorn's hair is too beautiful.
Katie eww

I focus for another reason, sorry
Same HIS HAIR IS GODLY

now that is a good idea
I'm going to need an instructional video for this haha

Patricia I thought the same thing. LOL I have been making beds for the homeless and now I love the idea of making totebags.
I am a fashion designer student and I definitely gonna try this one! I love all this ideas thank you so much
guys the world need more people like you...Awesome!
YES. definitely inspiring me to be more amazing :D
Y'know, I never once thought of turning my plastic grocery bags into reusable plastic grocery bags. Take that, Aldi!
Off topic the curly hairstyle is so awesome
Nice video. Both the "solidification" and the sewing part are ideas that don't come intuitively in mind when thinking of plastic but it's actually great and reliable.
Good job here !
Could make a patchwork quilt styled tarp from plastic bags! It really has a similar look to tent canvas
I now have use for all the ripped plastic bags thank you. keep on savings our planet people are you guys give me hope for our children's children future ✌️
I’m thinking this could work to make a shower curtain!
...and low budget rain gear for temporary use.
...and umbrellas.
and insulation for kitty winter shelters
Great ideas everyone. 😊🌎✨
Bjorne,
Love your hair!!!

Tarps...this would make good tarps. Temporary shelter for people. This combined with the injected bricks could make tiny temporary shelters!
This is awesome! I'm going to use this technique to make lining for fabric bags.!
That is a great idea!
great! I created a bag with this tutorial and I recommend it if you want to minimize your waste
You can stitch the bottom and sides all at the same time then go and turn in the bottom corners inwards, hopefully that helps you save a little time!
And snip off the triangles.
I was thinking the same thing but he did say he’s not a sewing expert. Off topic I was wondering what the stitch length would be.
@@AtheistEve if you Leave the triangles, it gives the corners more support
This is amazing. I was going to buy some reusable bags to grow potatoes in but now I can just use all the plastic bags I have and make one!!!
First off....you have great hair, hope you still have it!....that's one of the neatest & best ways ive seen to make a bag so far, love it!
What about melting the fabric textile in between two thinner (two ply) sheets of this material? Should make it more flexible/durable. Like a cotton/polyester/rayon sandwich.
might make it less recyclable in the future though.
@@AtheistEve it shouldn’t because the fabric looks like muslin and normally muslin is cotton.
@@AtheistEve how would it make it less recyclable? if you can recycle plastic AND fabric the. how does combining them make them less recyclable?
@@shadowsilverlight1651 When they come to the end of their life, they can’t be delaminated into fabric and plastic. So would end up in landfill.
I am going to try this with candy wrappers on the outside.
James Arroyo love that idea!!
How did it go?
Absolutely FABULOUS! Thank you SO much!

love the "rrrrrrough textile" at 2:23
Love it ! Thank you for this video🥰
What a great project, and what glorious hair!!

"i'll do it in an idiot prove way" hahahaha
I knew the technique but thanks for the tips to make it stronger (:
Thanks for the video. I have made some Halloween costume aprons with this method but I didn't know you could get the plastic so smooth. Well done.
I have about 100 plastic bags I've been collecting from my grocery shopping, now I have something to do with them.
Lol, met the new kindergarten teacher today. Nice guy. Now he's a guest here at this channel i subscribed to two days ago. Cool way to repurpose those plastic bags
Dude's hair is fukin epic.

It would still be a "contamination". Actually almost all plastic bags are polyethylene and wouldn't mix with polyester even if you tried to melt them together. Although maybe you could obtain a composite that would work.
If it's your bag and you plan to recycle it, why not just rip out the seams before putting it in the recycling?
Cotton thread won’t hold up over time in a reusable bag. You really should use polyester thread.
His hair is better than any ladie's hair here! Post a tutorial of how he care's of it!!
Those are genetics, he has loads of follicles!
love the idea! you guys are doing an amazing work, thank you for making a difference
I am in my 70s...love these videos....but dude....AWESOME hair!!!!!!
Bjorn's hair is worthy of Marie Antoinette -- gorgeous!
That is wonderful. Recycling a bunch of bag and turn it into one reusable bag. Thanks a lot. I will try to make a patio umbrella.
easy instructions step by step, you are very patient which helps with the instructions.thank you .
Okay Dave! Whoever your marketing team is, they're doing a great job!
The textures are superb.
Glorious hair Bjørn!
Loving the hair piled atop head guy.
I'm so envious of all that hair
I love this idea! I think I'll make a few of them from all the plastic bags that I've had for years.
So awesome, guys!!!
need a new school bag didnt want to buy a new one though..you just solved my problem :)

This is great guys! Thanks so much from Maryland! Can’t wait to give this a try!
Hey hello to you from Maryland as well!
A man with hair like Marie Antoinette and who can sew.... sign me up!
Wow!!! Great job!!!
Too good and well explained. I am going to try this very soon. Thanks.
Thank you, I love this idea🥰
How in the world are you getting your fused bags so flat and smooth? Mine are wrinkling so much it looks terrible.
This is very cool concept. I love it.
can this be made in to PPE gowns for medical staff ?
I love his angel like hair
Congratulations, you made vinyl!
This is so brilliant. I want to try it soon!
Would it work to fuse the seams together with heat instead of sewing them?
It does! I use a electric scalpel to "suture" my plastic!
I have a small iron typically used for mounting photographs that I use for fusing seams.
Thank you so much for this sharing ideas 🙏

wow i couldn't watch the video i spend all the time watching his beautiful hair!
Just came across this video on Reddit (r/detrashed), this is great 👍🏻
Great hair bro. Thanks for the information
Keep adding them together to make tarps?
Andy Collier that’s a cool idea! You could add rivets too! It would take a long time but I bet it would be awesome!

I believe they are #4 LDPE. I work with them often and the shiny appearance to the bags suggests that.
Can you tell me more about handles? Thank you. I’m very much interested in the square handle one.
I wish i had Björns hair!
Such beautiful hair
I am going to make round pots for my balcony flowers. Thank you.
What a good video with a good idea , I will try to do a plastic bag too !!!!
PS: loved that hair !!!!!
Nice prototypes
I love them!
I really like well done 👍 keep it up 💕👍
I want his curls!!!!!
I was wondering how many layers of bag can you do effectively with just the iron?? What's the max?
max 3... or 4 if they are too thin.
Love the idea
Thumbs up, if only for the fab hair!
Leuk te zien hoe andere mensen dezelfde dingen doen 😉👏👏
Thank you sooooo very much for truly useful and interesting video^^ you are the best
thank you!
excellent explanation! beautiful hair too :D
Holy Crap! Awesome :D I was looking for a new material for a new project. :)
love it! will do this with my craft class for children 👍
that’s really super awesome tutorial!
really coool

Dang, wish i'd know this earlier! Will definitely be racking my brains for what to make... 😝
Awesome!
Rapunzel, let down your hair! Sorry for this :)

It should be parchment paper (made of silicon) and not freezer paper (made of wax).
Looks great. I am going to make a "mask keeper" for when I take it off to eat at a restaurant or have to put mask in my purse etc
its hard to take bjorn seriously with that hair. either he looks like a jedi or something from a weird al music video.

The guy with the long hair is cute
Why stitch it together couldn't you just melt it together?
maybe to create some design
Hi from California ..we no longer have these plastic bags😁
Brigitte Beck Yep. You can blame the liberals for that. :/
You can still get bags in a lot of stores. At least you can at dollar tree. They charge extra though.
That's a start good for California 👏
