But there i notice my output has declined somewhat over the years while my understanding remained somewhat similar. I think knowing what to do, and learning that will help increasing my apm if I would pick up sc2 it would actually increase but that has more to do with knowing rather than reaction speed
Oh god.... I'm imagining that same fight in the original and... he had the High Templar in front to get the storms off. I've played SC1 enough to be absolutely paranoid about High Templar being ahead of my army much less leading them through a single unit gap.
I love your Content, Captain! One humble request though - you seem to have 4 basic sizes of WebCam feed defined in OBS , let's call them "Full Screen", "Large", "Medium" and "Small". Sometimes you use the "Small" setup when casting IIODIS and that's great, but sometimes (and in this video in particular) you opt for the "Medium" variant which takes roughly 1/4 of the screen and makes it hard to see what's going on in the game. Especially since you also comment parts that are obscured by your WebCam feed (vide 19:11). I think it would be great if you could stick with the "Small" setup... I love seeing your face and mimicry but it's equally well-visible that way and makes for a better viewing experience! Anyways - thanks for your top-quality content. I would bet, just from looking at this game, that the reason he builds his things that way is because he has lost repeatedly to baneling busts, so in our mind (us diamonds) it gets drilled into you that this is an issue, and so you begin to build things in a way that you can in no way lose to that. That doesn't make it good, but it is a fairly logical step. The professional would obviously know that by scouting, unit and map control, and those things would prevent that from working, but we aren't that good and so therefore do the simplest thing to stop it. If this was a plat game youd just see the guy getting baneling busted repeatedly lol

I honestly believe that the only way Juice would think it was the Lurker's fault enough to send this in to Harstem is somehow not seeing the destructible rocks. Tidal waving onto the Lurkers and getting wrecked to splash damage would be one thing, but being completely unable to even hit something is what gets people to cry IMBA. Secondly, why bother even mentioning the early game? They ceasefired so long the Zerg could have gone back to one base in the last attack and still maxed out by the time they fought again.
Yeah this game was a perfect example of this player having zero clue about map terrain and how army positioning works. If he went around the top again, he might have been okay (despite being behind in macro, he strangely constructed a very diverse army able to handle many compositions).
Nice draw with Serral by the way. Now, not having seen the game yet, I'm going to guess that he didn't use Disruptors, which seem like a natural counter to one of the few Zerg units with mobility issues. Also guessing that he didn't follow your example and make some Tempests to clear out stationary Zerg infestations.

It's not that being old is bad, it's that we grew up with underdeveloped game systems with less graphics, slower processes and fewer buttons. These kids now have insane hand eye coordination from the new age games. I'm 39 and when I was a young squirt I played the Atari, it was 8 bit, ran at 1.2 MHz, had 128 bytes of ram and only 2 buttons (not counting directional). Playing advanced games at such a young age causes significant variations in brain development.
I think this guys building placement was actually really good, I think if you built them like they were in a different way you can make a really good strong position there against zerg, I think the tech structures being on the natural is probably a good position too as you can protect them easier but should be placed like that if you're going double forge or something along those lines, if you take another look as well at how tight he made his placements he made an alley where probes can trickle out towards the 3rd efficiently and safely and it protects the late game run byes and stuff like that, forcing zerg to headbutt against the protoss army
i mean, there is a level at which sc2 becomes impossible. i call it wood league. at this level, no one can operate a mouse or a keyboard, making a victory in sc2 impossible.

To be honest after seeing how this guy makes his buildings one by one I think he probably doesn't know that he can shift click them in sc2 as he mentioned he plays since 1998. Also building all of them in 1 screen seems like a habit from scbw where you cant hotkey more than 1 structure and need to build units clicking on every single gateway...
This was possibly the most pathetic ending to a game I've seen in iodis. I don't understand how he didn't see his own units just doing nothing for the entire fight, pushing against the rocks.
I played SC2 a lot when it was first released. Bought the game on a trip to Montreal for a concert. I want to play again but I don't want to be completely clueless. Any tips for beginners? You should build the second gateway such that it syncs up with the completion of warpgate research (i.e. at ~54s completion of warpgate). Unless you're being rushed, there's no need for the early gateway to complete the wall. As you can see in this game, zerg barely has any units until after warpgate is done. Essentially, if you want an early (and useful) second gateway, you'd need to build the second gateway at around 24s completion of warpgate, which shouldn't be possible unless you cut worker production (which is bad).
Not sure why I obsessed over this, but if an archon were to get stuck in the main base the buildings he would have to kill to get it out would be: 3 pylons, a gate, and a cyber core or the forge, fleet beacon and cyber core or stargate, 2 gateways and 2 pylons Or ofcourse build a warp prism from the robo in his 3rd base

You should build the second gateway such that it syncs up with the completion of warpgate research (i.e. at ~54s completion of warpgate). Unless you're being rushed, there's no need for the early gateway to complete the wall. As you can see in this game, zerg barely has any units until after warpgate is done.
Essentially, if you want an early (and useful) second gateway, you'd need to build the second gateway at around 24s completion of warpgate, which shouldn't be possible unless you cut worker production (which is bad).

Not sure why I obsessed over this, but if an archon were to get stuck in the main base the buildings he would have to kill to get it out would be:
3 pylons, a gate, and a cyber core or
the forge, fleet beacon and cyber core or
stargate, 2 gateways and 2 pylons
Or ofcourse build a warp prism from the robo in his 3rd base

I lost to Hyrda/Lurker, and I rushed my robo so that it finished at 12:45 in game. With such quick detection, how could I possibly lose? Zerg is imba and I hate it.
