Our board dont do that though. There isnt a "speculate to accumulate" mentality with these people. They are bankers, not traders. They look at what we have an are happy, if anyone questions that they'll push them out (the examples you gave). We also did the same with Deila, he was brought in and hampered with coaches from the board and players that he didnt want. He's been a success everywhere he's managed so Id add him to the list.
Right now with the way that european football is going and the money involved, to not push to be involved at that top table is bordering on criminal.
None of us are saying that we should be spending 40million a window and paying guys 50k a week. But we leave every window with a cash surplus that would allow is to sign a £7/8 million player on good wages and it wouldnt even touch half of the cash on deposit. But do that for two or three windowns and we will see a return on that through revenue (prize money, champions league money, merchandise etc).
The slither of hope is that they can see whats in front of them. We have a coach that is consistently batting it out the park with recruitment. Won one league from one, with a 9 point lead in his second season. That also equals two champions league qualifications from two as well. Now we are starting to sell players for profit, the squad age is getting younger through player turnover and its becoming more valuable. Guys like Abada, Hatate, Jota and CCV wont be leaving celtic for anything that doesnt dwarf the fee we gor For Juranovic. Those four alone are minimum 60million in my opinion.

We have an unused overdraft of 30m an the reason for that is our board can’t trust the banks an won’t get into debt with them. In the 90s RBS were funnelling money into rangers an trying to foreclose on Celtic for a 5m debt. That’s back when the rbs was controlled out of Edinburgh a Protestant stronghold. If you don’t think there’s a biased in this country inside an outside of football then just look at how the msm treated us when we had our financial troubles an look at how they treated rangers. They drove a hearse upto Celtic park with RIP Celtic as a headline. Watch asterix years by Paul larkin. When rangers were in trouble it was the bad man that done it an it’s a wee shame for rangers an everyone should feel sorry for them an help them out or the whole league is going to die. Watch Armageddon by Paul larkin.
Our board has a class action lawsuit against the club to deal with an in a Edinburgh court they know we won’t get a fair trial especially bc important paperwork has gone missing. Agent Dom McKay was probably the one that got rid of the papers among other things but that’s just my speculation. I don’t agree with our board’s decisions I don’t trust lawell but I think they might be holding back with the money untill this case is over with 🤷‍♂️ New laws were past here in Protestant Scotland to allow this case to take place against us so I think our board knows what’s coming

@@chrisd3211 We dont have an unsued overdraft of 30million we have a cash surplus. It was bank of scotland not rbs.
Aside from the conspiracy stuff they may be holding this money for the result of the boys club abuse and subsequent compensation to be paid out. Going by similar cases down south it wont be tens of millions though. Not that you can put a value on such things, but a court does. We also have insurance in place.

@Marc I think there are multiple ways in which to approach the problem of closing the gap in the CL and Europa League latter stages.
You can like under Martin O’Neill back the Manager and run with an acceptable level of Debt- as some do but most are running beyond a comfortable level and hence the push to bring these levels down by UEFA .
You can play the Transfer Market as we have with Lawwellball over the past decade or so -and have a bloated squad like we do at present.
Or you can invest in better quality with the money you have and use your Development to make up the numbers needed to fight on all fronts.
Option 1 seen us reach a major European Final and narrowly lose it to the following years European Champions.
That squad was subsequently split up and moved on as Lawwell and the Board concentrated on clearing the Debt generated by that investment over the next 3 Managers.
Even though it impacted them both Strachan and Lenny managed to reach the last 16 of the CL.
The second approach although successful in terms of a Financial Approach has seen us dominate domestically whilst posting large profits over the piece.
In Europe it’s seen a dramatic change from LAST 16 in the CL to LOST 17.
The bloated squad and constant turnover of assets has also seen less chances for Youth players waiting for their chance and as we have experienced the last few windows some of these prospects heading elsewhere with little or no chance at Celtic.
The last option and the one we have failed or refused to adopt could well be the balance between the two?
We entered this Season with a surplus of £30m cash at the Bank with as Champions under Ange a genuine opportunity to gain direct access to the CL windfall two Seasons in a row.
In my opinion we should be looking at bringing in players at the level of Carter-Vickers and Jota in every position where possible.
If you have say a player in every position at that level backed up by several £2.5-3m players and bolstered by quality youth players then we would have a team good enough for Europe which of course is more than good enough Domestically as a result.

Balls to the wall like O’Neill

Sometimes it only takes one or two players to be the difference between being competitive or also-rans in the CL. Shakhtar had a guy called Mudryk whom without would've struggled to get a point. Celtic don't need to turn over the whole squad...a defender here and striker there, could make all the difference. Celtic didn't even have their first choice defensive line throughout the campaign available.

@@davidkelly499 Been saying since we exited the Group in bottom spot David, you need to be a bit more pragmatic when approaching the Champions League as the one trick pony approach has not served us well under Deila or Rodgers.
You cannot be approaching these games with the same setup and system as you do against the SPFL.
These teams play us already knowing the game plan.
Then for them it’s merely a case of exploiting the weaknesses and being better in the night.
Which given the level of players most of them have is not difficult.
Ange is going to have to adapt and adjust accordingly.

    • @davidkelly499
      @davidkelly499 2 года назад

@@brownwarrior6867 I admire Ange and his philosophy. Especially when he came in and wanted to stick to that style when results werent going his way. But its one thing doing that with the resources and players that we have against Motherwell and against Real Madrid.
For me the real let down of the group was that home game v Donetsk. The goal we conceded, just look how we were set up. 1-0 up against a counter attacking team that narrowly lost in Madrid and destroyed Leipzig in Germany by counter attacking, with a superstar winger.
So at a set piece we put every player in their half and leave Mudryk unmarked with 60 of space to run in to.
Thats insane. It was disrespectful and we got punished for it. It cost us two points (and two million euros).
Im not saying that we park the bus, but a little but of pragmatism along with better finishing and we could get 3rd in that group. With a better player or two and we can get 2nd. It should be a progression. We need subtle tweaks, not overhaul.
It will be up to Ange and the players to show that progression next season, assuming we get there.

On the wages and fees thing. I criticise the board a lot, but the turn of the century we racked up tens of millions in debt. Strachans success while downsizing really bailed the club and the board out. But the football world hasnt just moved on from there, its exploded.
Having said that, guys like Jota and CCV signing for 6/6.5million should be standard now. If we go through a summer window without signing two players that improve the first team then we wont ever progress, not really.
The trouble is that we win so much in Scotland that Europe is quickly forgotten.
I go back to Bodo Glimt. They hadnt played in 8 weeks and had sold their three best players and scudded us home and away. Thats the equivalent of us losing Jota, CCV and McGregor and beating Porto home and away first two games of the season.
Our board are the issue. They are risk averse. Thats fine in moderation, but they are risk averse to the extreme and thats what will hold us back. As great as Ange is, he'll be forced out because thats what this board do. We all know it.

I get Mark's point about Celtic still paying 2002 transfer and wage structures. The reason for that is because the Scottish tv money is still the same or only slightly better than 2002. The real solution is a much better tv deal but i think we need league reconstruction with a 17 team league with 3 way split of 5-6-6 after 32 games and that would retain the 4 games per season format for the top 5 teams but stop us playing the lesser teams 4 times a season. This season Celtic will play Kilmarnock and St.Mirren 5 times and that is killing Scottish football because Man City don't play Wolves 5 timed and PSG don't play Metz 5 times. Also, we could consider merging with the Scandinavian league.Norway have a 70M per year tv deal so getting a better Scottish tv deal is essential. In terms of short term we have made a few 6M signings in jota and CCV so we are showing some improvement. For the summer i think we need to spend maybe 12M on 2 players and go for quality instead of quantity as the squad seems quite good at the moment. We also have 5 youth players who need to move to the first team soon: Vata, Lawal, Anderson, Summers, and Murray. We do need to step up our player transfer model but we still have to combine a few big money signings with signing gems from less fashionable Leagues like Japan, Korea, MLS, Belgium, Poland etc.
