Thanks for the great comments everyone’s I’m shooting the full review right this moment,‘so expect to see it next week! Sorry to keep you waiting, but I really wanted to take my time to do this one really well, and there’s a lot to go through.
Enjoy the Channel Caleb. If you are going to do this properly and that involves inputting those speaker distances and room dimensions then you should be calculating it via a laser pointer measurer from Bosch or similar from your local hardware store. Just sayin 😉
@@stevenlawrence2232 I mean, that’s a great idea, but unfortunately the Dragon doesn’t allow that much granularity. Distances are input in increments of whole feet, no inches. Not even .5, unless there’s a setting I’ve somehow missed.
Sonos needs to get their act together and give us some of these options. Being able to save settings for a one button switch while going from music to tv to movie etc is a must. It gets tiring going through every devices equalizer every time you want to do anything different.
I bought their 7.2.2 system a couple of years ago and loved it so much that I moved that to our bedroom and got their 9.2.4 system for my media room. Awesome sound. I think I'll be upgrading again soon. Oh, and their (Nakmichi) customer service is amazing. My 65" Samsung TV stopped doing ARC (a common problem w/Samsung I've learned) and Nakamichi sent me a replacement sound bar without question. Good company.
I just want to say I used to watch digital trends a lot back in 2020 when I was looking for new TVs but haven't really kept up with it in the last couple years. This is the first time I'm really waiting for a review. Look at the size of the surrounds. There huge, I can't wait to hear about how close this thing to a real AVR system.
Hi Caleb. I just want to Thank You.. for removing my guilt about the Dragon. I am an audiophile. And this review wrapped it up. Ordered yesterday. Too bad the Dragon surround stands come 2 months before the main attraction!! I may go nuts waiting. It’s been a long time since I was at CES. You do a superb job. Mark.
I’ve been waiting so long for this!! I’m one of the lucky few, that successfully ordered one. It’s due to be delivered in August. Looking forward to the full review and some helpful setup tips. Great job, as usual!
Amazon sells very sturdy plastic stands made for large PC monitors. I think you can put one of these under each side of the TV to elevate it up about 6".
Awesome! Nice to see that it’s not vaporware. Looking forward to the usual top-notch review from Caleb. Would love to see a comparision of this system versus the Sony HT-A9 with the SA-SW5 subwoofer.
Congratulations for being the first to put up a video! Would really like to know how it does with music content as well like concert blurays etc. I did receive an invite for a purchase as part of the second round offer which I didn’t pursue as of now. Thank you!
I wish Nak would go back to building beautiful separates, like I owned through the late 80's and 90's, I had my system played through Paradigm 9Se Studio Monitors; fantastic!
Ha, at the first sight of the title I thought "Why would he unbox a classic tape deck?" :D. Did not know that Nakamichi build a sound system/bar with the same name. Thanks for showing it.
According to an email between me and Nakamichi. Every limited edition of the Dragon will have the same 1 of 500 placard. And I’m apparently number 498 of all placed orders meaning I’ll be one of the last to get mine 😂
When will we see the full review? The specs looks phenomenal, it might make more sense than having to have a bunch of boxes such as 11 speakers, subwoofers and an AV Receiver. If the sound quality is up to par with Nakamishi’s reputation it will be top notch! What is the warranty on this thing sound-bar?
Like most high end gear from Nakamichi there is nothing else like it , and if you have deep enough pockets and a room large enough to do it justice, then just buy one. Having worked on the Dragon cassette decks, they are a nightmare to rebuild, i wouldn't like to try finding a fault on this surround system. Can't wait to find out if it lives up to it's name and just how much tweaking is required.
As a guy who’s getting older now live in a more downsized home with a separates system and a wife that has tolerated speakers all over the place for years I really wanted to love this, however, the two issuesI see a problem are, compared to my in ceiling wired speakers, these are harder to keep more discreet and what happens when the hdmi standard changes am I left with a very expensive dragon paperweight?
Is it just me, or did the audio on this video at around 12:41 sound less good than the beginning of the video? Hopefully that's only a one time thing. It wouldn't be so good in the full review later on. 😅
I ordered one of the first 500. I was hoping for the first one but noooooo. Hopefully it will show up soon. I think the remote also has a gold plate too
All 500 units will say “1 OF 500 LIMITED EDITION”. They wont be labelled “2 of 500” or “499 of 500”. This wording is intended to mean this is “one of the 500 limited editions”
Great unboxing! I can’t wait to see your full review. I’m hoping purchases the Dragon surround system, but in my application would need to set the rear surrounds on top of some upper level cabinets mounted on my rear wall. Can you find out what the minimum recommended clearance between the top of the speakers & the ceiling is , and cover this in your full review?
Conflicted, want to buy a new oled tv LG G3 or Sony A95L 65" and the Dragon, but only can afford one now, the other sometime early/mid next year. Decisions, Decisions. Very excited for the full review!

Waiting with baited breath for the full review. My question is this just a Demo unit or will this maybe be given away in the future. I really believe this will be the sound system to beat even for just music listening.
I never had a soundbar before purchasing a Vizio 5.1.4 system before, and after a few years of having that I am extremely interested in this after seeing your CES coverage on it.
I've had the Yamaha YSP-4000 Soundbar for almost 10 years now. Works today as it did from day one. Yamaha for electronics also has it pretty much together also. :-))
Supposedly close to the end of the year so I wouldn't be surprised if it was not until early next year. Very few even high-end audio video stores will display or sell it. One or two stores are going to sell it but only on-line.
Thanks for the video and I will be attentive to the next video to see what you say about the room calibration power and if it is possible to apply equalization filters made with REW (Room EW Wizard) for example. Can you indicate in the next video the measurements of your room? in the 3 axes ? Is your main listening point at 13 ft ( about 4 meters ) vs. the soundbar ? If so, I advise you to put the listening point at 2.5-3 meters maximum so that you hear more the equipment and not the room. Does it have acoustic treatment ? Written with translator Greetings
This makes me want to have done the unboxing on mine and out it up. So far I have only good to say about my unit. Sadly mine was not helped out by Some shipping damage. Overall it hands down destroys my previous system. The only sad part to report is we all got 1 of 500.
I’m a little worried about their shipping dates holding true if this is the only system out in the wild with it now being July. They communicated that their first ordered shipments would begin to ship out in June… I was told August so I expect that to move back.
I agree. There are people who have received their Dragon though. But they got theirs a month late. So I’m wondering if everyone else’s August date will get pushed back to September.
@@TheGirlSkateBoardCo My new e-mails show actual pictures of most if not all of the Limited Edition 500 being loaded on a large container barge. headed to California. Hopefully, by now it is very close to the unloading docks. It also has to stay there for 1 whole week for customs clearance and then be shipped out. 🤐🤐😪
When I read you had a video on the Nakamichi “Dragon”, I thought you meant the old Nakamichi 1000 “Dragon”, you know, the 3 head, 3 motor cassette deck with mic/line mixing, and auto-switching between tape formats (with bias and EQ over ride adjustments). That was the best cassette deck ever made. When released in 1973, it listed for $1,000 but soon went up to $1,100. I was in my first hitch in the U.S. Army at the time and had to settle for the Teac 450 , 3rd in line below both the Nakamichi ‘Dragon” and the Nakamichi 700.
Oh how I would love to hear the nakamichi dragon in person. 20 Hz from an 8-inch drivers. I suspect the pull push configuration must have something to do with that. 🤔
Finally the reviewers can settle the heavyweight fight of 2023. Dragon ($3500) vs "Ultimate Sonos Setup" (Arc+2 Era 300s+2 Gen3 Subs = $3200?) Looking forward to this!
Wow, thanks Caleb! Questions about the surrounds (perhaps for the review, unless you can answer here.) Are there just two units? If so, does Nakamichi treat them like dipole or bipole side-surrounds, or is each facade / set of drivers supposed to somehow be a side and a rear surround combined into one cabinet?
They are basically side surround and rear surround discrete channels with the idea of having the rear surround bounce off the rear wall and come at you from behind. Same idea as the Atmos speakers. Also like the atmos and wide speakers in this setup, it's not DSP-powered/mixed/magic. They are discrete channels that are implemented as if they were an actual speaker mounted in space near the wall.

If I remember correctly I did see the warranty for the Dragon but it was several months ago and it was only a regular warranty. 1 year parts and labor nothing that I remember was very special or even where you could purchase an extended warranty. Hope that helps Hot Rod
As I have stated many times before as of the latest that I know e-bay was chosen as the main Naka distributor but backed out kind of at the last moment because of mailing (weight) restrictions and to high of a price point for them to mail. Any overseas from the US Sorry Lad. Bummer 😒
Like Caleb had mentioned there is a wall mount for the soundbar and there are also wall mounts for the two rear Atmos speakers Plus standing real nice looking standing stands for the rears but pretty pricey $299.00 + tax One of the Naka Ninjas told me over the phone that the rear Atmos speakers will have the wall mounts in the box but I'm unsure of that statement.

Given the price, I was expecting a longer warranty.
@@terrym540 Your very VVVVVellcme. 👍
As an HT-A7000 owner I'm super curious and excited for the upcoming review.
I'm so jealous that you got your hands on this, any news on whether its coming to UK, or not
As I have stated many times before as of the latest that I know e-bay was chosen as the main Naka distributor but backed out kind of at the last moment because of mailing (weight) restrictions and to high of a price point for them to mail. Any overseas from the US Sorry Lad. Bummer 😒
Wow can remember the dragon series back in the late 70's early 80's and it was grand back then, not in my price realm though.
1 of 500 doesn’t mean it’s number 1. That means they may have made around 500 and you got one of them. Car markers do that all the time.
yup, this is correct. They should have called it 'one' instead of the number
Yeah, probably true. But I’ll keep pretending I got the first one made, I’ll just keep that to myself, 😂
@@Caleb_Denisonlol 😂🤣
@@Caleb_Denison U the MAN!!! 😇
Great job as always Caleb, you did some heavy lifting. Can't wait for more on this Dragon.🐉
Their surround speakers are legitimate bookshelves
speaking of audio, something happened to the mic audio in the last segment ... some signal issue when Caleb was talking
Very excited for the full review!
Size reminds of my zvox soundbar. Big and Long. But I am itching for an upgrade...
Have mine ordered cannot wait!!
Can’t wait to see full review
Or just wall mount the TV. That would be the easiest thing to do. This thing is a monster. Love it.
