  • An interview with John Martin, detained in Russia since August 1, 2018 after crossing the Bering Sea in an 8 ft boat.
    www.gofundme.c...
    From the book's preface:
"Some people say I must be crazy for sailing across the Bering Sea in an eight foot rowboat, others say I was so brave.
My answer to them is that I was desperate to reach my wife and son who are living in China, and that two weeks at sea, from Alaska to Russia, was a much longer journey cut short due to adverse weather and lack of water.
Everyone wants to know why I did not just jump on an airplane like everyone else, to which I reply that I don’t have a passport. Of course, then they ask why.
The fact is, there is no short answer, and each answer presents another question. So, following is the long answer. I will shed light on the mystery behind my adventure and share the details of the journey, which certainly begins on December 13th 2004, some fourteen years earlier."

Not yet. He's still detained in Russia. They moved him to Moscow about a week ago, and probably took his phone, since I've not spoken to him since.

@@BrentBaccala I'm sorry to hear that. It looks like they government is making an example of him. Has anyone contacted the US Embassy in Russia so they can work to get John free or at least deported?

@@bevoburn Yes, the embassy will provide him a temporary passport if the Russians deport him. There's a lot of information on nooceantoowide.com, if you haven't looked at that site already.
