      Yes! 100% agree!
All medical providers need to lead with patience, empathy, and cultural humility.
Especially an OBGYN provider!! Shame on her. She should have explained what she was doing.. don’t be afraid to speak up and advocate for yourself. You’re the patient. It doesn’t matter if they are the “doctor.” You are human and everything you feel/ experience is valid. Shoutout to the nurses for advocating and protecting you from experiencing more trauma/harm.
Please report her. If she wasn’t in the right headspace, she shouldn’t have delivered your baby. She should have leaned on another doctor on the team to step in.

Girlllll as a nurse hearing your experience with that doctor literally infuriates me. Specially when she said to bring in the Fentanyl. Jonathan is 100% right, if you plan on being in the healthcare field, you can’t just do it for the money. You have to genuinely care for your patients.

As a nurse at a hospital, we tend to ask All patients about there experience. But especially if we noticed some kind of mistreatment against the patient because I can speak for myself I love what I do. And if someone is only there for a paycheck and isn’t treating you with respect we want them gone or at least spoken too. As a nurse our goal is to make you feel safe and respected the whole time there.

Although, we are blessed and okay it could have been preventable. I agree with Jonathan sometimes they do need a slap on the wrist so that they don’t rob another mom of her experience in the future.

Working in the medical field for many years this doctor had horrible bedside manners and needs to be reported. Blanca and Jonathan you guys need to file a complaint against her, it’s not fair the way she treated you and who knows if she was being racist or discriminative against you guys. Whatever it was she needs to be reported so that she’s held accountable for her actions. I’ve worked with many doctors and you see so many things. Some doctors can be the best and others make you question why they’re in the medical field if they act a certain way. Even if she did apologize to you guys she does need to be reported and have a complaint filed against her. Trust me, this will let her know that she can’t be acting this way. I really hope you guys do. If you need assistance with filing a complaint I can help you guys too. It seems that even the nurses and other medical staff noticed this about her too. Please file a complaint, it will help many women in the future so that they don’t go through a similar experience or even worse. Doctors are people just like you and I and as that there’s going to be good and bad ones but as a doctor they need to have a good reputation. They should never make you feel bad and should never make you feel like they’re better than you or anyone.
I’m sorry you had to deal with a doctor like this but Congratulations on your beautiful baby girl Belen 🩷 she is perfect and so adorable! Dios los bendiga a todos siempre 🙏🏽🫶🏽

Bed side manners are sooo important from doctors and ESPECIALLY for labor and delivery. It’s already so vulnerable and painful.
Also, please don’t let the comments of “just get the epidural, we’re in the 21st century” get to you. I’ve had both and my natural delivery was so much more intuitive and the healing was 100% better.

  • @Guessit492

I highly encourage you to voice your experience to the hospital. There is research that shows provider racial bias in pain assessment and treatment recommendations. In other words, research shows that providers assume women of color have a “higher pain tolerance” and typically get bare minimum treatment. So sorry you experienced this.

I agree! In a medical setting it’s okay to take fentanyl and have an epidural. People get epidurals for neck pain best believe I’m gonna get one while giving birth. I had a 36 hour traumatic labor and I wish they would have given me drugs sooner!

Same, I went in there saying if I need to get an epidural I'm going to get an epidural. And I'm glad I did because I was induced and 3hrs in they had to pause the medication because baby's heartbeat was low and they didn't start me on it until 4hrs later so all those hours I would've been suffering while making literally no progress 😩

Delivery went well afterwards.

Omg Blanca, you really need to report that doctor. Most likely she does it all the time, and the nurses know but cannot say anything because of work etiquette. I know cause I'm a nurse. We know good and bad doctors and wish I could tell my patients about the bad ones. Here in TX they send a survey after hospital stay, idk if it's like that in all states, but definitely say it in the survey if you get one. But I am happy for you guys. I truly believe babies can sense everything when their in the womb. If the mom is relaxed, happy, and loved, the baby will be calm. Belén is precious and the way you two look at her is so cute 🥰 she definitely will have Jonathan wrapped around her little finger. I have had 2 un medicated births and it’s no joke. I also went full exorcist mode but I could care less what people thought. The second I was up and recovered so quick and meeting all the requirements early and I didn’t tear so ig it depends on if you tear or not honestly. But epidural had no impact on my recovery really

Don’t be embarrassed of how you handled your pain girl. You did the damm thing. Congratulations on your new blessings 🤍

It’s crazy you go treated like that. I heard a myth that men doctors are better than woman doctors when in come to deliveries. I had a guy doctor for my second delivery vbac and he did amazing! Talk thru pushing and even gave me props for my delivery since it was my first vaginal. So sorry! Congratulations to your little family for the new baby! ❤

Blanca, you’re a bad ass for giving birth unmedicated! I’ve had 2 epidurals and both of my recoveries have been smooth. I don’t have any back pain and my kids are 4 and 14 months now. I honestly think we have genetics to thank for our experiences with birth and different medications. Every body is different, literally.

Thank you for sharing your story girl 🫶🏽 this is super powerful, and eye opening. I am not a mother yet, but I can relate with how you felt especially with the poor treatment you received from the doctor. As Jonathan mentioned, it is important to keep doctors and anyone in power accountable for their mistakes, and for any negligence they perpetuate against others. I do think we need to bring more awareness of this issue because historically women of Color are the ones being affected the most by negligent and racist doctors. I love y’all, and thank you once again for sharing your story. ✨💕

Im so sorry you went thru that.. I had a similar experience… for my birth I only had one nurse and she was so rude, and the doctor did not come in and check on me at all, she wasn’t even at the hospital.. so the nurse was the only one checking me and was so rude about it like your experience & I didn’t have supportive people with me that it led me to just giving up because of my negative mindset and having a c-section. To this day I regret it so much because I know I could’ve went natural but the nurse was putting me in such a bad headspace that I gave up… we deserve better experiences because this is the most important/vulnerable times of our life’s.. I’m glad you are healing very good and that baby girl is here and healthy! Congratulations to you and Jonathon! 🥺🥰 Franco is such an amazing big brother already! Love you guys🫶🏽🫶🏽🫶🏽

So sorry that you had to experience with this doctor. I've always said that women doctors have less compassion than men doctors. Men doctors don't know the extent of pain and discomfort women go through, that just makes them so compassionate. On another note, i applaud your strength Blanca for going through natural birth. Protecting your body and baby from all medications.

I understand not wanting to be a Karen but coming from a mom who lost her baby I did not sleep until I sent a letter to the head quarters of the hospital. Some nurses/doctors have no consideration. My baby was sick but I feel like she caused her death sooner. The last day she was her charge nurse and she did not let me touch her get near her do nothing with my baby she was doing all her cares for her. My baby passed on her care. I came home with memory box rather than my child she still tried hugging me and I pushed her away and told her you didn’t even let me spend time with her I dreamt of it everyday until I sent out a letter about my traumatic experience it didn’t bring my daughter back but I was able to speak for her speak about having more compassion for mothers who want nothing but to be near their child knowing they might loose them.

I am so sorry for your loss. I can’t even imagine the pain you were in and that never really goes away. I pray God continues to give you strength and healing. Hopefully with the letter you sent, they made a change because this should be such an enjoyable moment and many doctors/nurses rob that from mothers. May God continue to heal you, bless you, love you where you can feel his presence, rest and peace that surpasses all understanding. 🤍

One thing my professor taught me when i was doing medical assisting is when doctor's dont allow filming its because they dont want to be caught being liable if something goes wrong. And she said the pattern she saw the most is doctor's who dont allow it were ones who either had issues in the past like they way the handle the medical part for a patient or they have shitty attitudes with their patients and staff.

No ma’am my labor and delivery nurses were so nice and helpful. She always made sure to reassure me when it came to the epidural they let me know if I needed it to get it I didn’t have to. I think there’s doctors that take advantage of their title and are just mean and want to make you feel bad. Epidural has side effects to it you’re not obligated to get it!

You should take legal action love… this is so saddening to hear and unfortunately this is way too common, especially because folks think they don’t have options/go in uninformed about their birthing rights. I am a traditional birth keeper and student home birth midwife and this is literally why… the system is so fucked and to know that this was your experience truly saddens me. I wish you deep and your family deep healing and know that in the future you have the right to request another doctor AND listen to your body 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 much much love to you.
