I remember when I was a kid back in the '60s- early '70s, my dad would get home from work, pour a cocktail, go in the living room, switch on the hifi (Dynaco tube separates at the time) & sit in his easy chair and relax..Music like this, jazz, swing, easy-listening.. No cell phones, no pagers, no answering machines, no PC's, no Internet, no email..no INVASIONS. When you got home from work you were DONE.. Disconnected! Does anybody relax anymore? I think the modern world is too "24/7" for me!
Beware: This video may get you really, really into Bossa Nova. I stumbled upon it a few years ago, listened/watched it regularly, and eventually started buying Antonio Carlos Jobim records like it was my job. Now my wife and I are hopefully taking a trip to Brazil for our 10th wedding anniversary... All thanks to this video. Thanks so much, gilmour509 & Lalo Schifrin!
+Maria Sosa There are no clubs in Rio that play Bossa Nova. It is an inventive style of music that came together in NYC with jazz musicians and a few Brazilians... But it is nice speaking Portuguese.
Brasil is a fabulously diverse place. Lived there three years. However, in truth, the best Bossa Nova is here in the states. Jobim collaborated with an amazing group of American jazz musicians (Getz being my favorite) back in the early 60's. Enjoy Rio and Sao Paulo. They have everything!
I am SO glad you are enjoying this record. My dad Sidney Frey was founder and president of A/F Records. He brought the great Brazilian bossa nova artists to a famous Carnegie Hall concert in 1962. Andrea (Frey) Bass
Delicious. So early 1960s. So wonderfully jazz and Bossa Nova. Grew up in the late 60s and 70s listening to music like this. Such fantastic rhythm, so lyrical, so much music. Just makes you want to move.
I'm not saying that we are better than everyone, and of course that others cultures have very nice stuff as well, but I really love the Latin Culture !! *__* greetings from Brasil !
Wow! A 200 watt lathe was a rare thing in 1962. Most were running at well below 50 watts at that time. Today records are cut with 4,000 watt lathes in some cases. The audio on the record probably is better than anything being recorded today. :) JC
You'd be surprised how many of us 'youngstas' like this kind of music. I totally relate to the whole vinyl thing - the old school. We know what we missed and RUclips brings it to life for the next generation. Love the Brazilian chill/jazz thing.
Lalo Schifrin ....great composer....he did the famous soundtrack of Bullitt - Steve McQueen ..these guys knew what s all about the good music ...cheers x THANX for upload this great disc ..it s soo nice when i get back home from work ,i lay down ,i put some coffe in my old cup, drink ,dream away to my dream girl i don t have .. and listen this fine sounds....cheers R.
I am so glad I found this music!! by accident! I was only looking for the background music for the dinner, but instead ended up listening to this piece of art again and again, I love it. Life is so more beautiful when you hear music like this!!
In case anyone doesn't know this, Lalo Schifrin's most famous composition was the theme to Mission Impossible television series. I saw him in concert with Paul Horn on flute with Lalo's orchestra performing "Jazz Suite On the Mass Texts" in 1968 in Hollywood.
Nobody in the world is qualified to say what is "crap" and what is not. There is more than enough room for every style of music out there, and one can enjoy even the most simple and catchy pop tunes as well as the most mind-boggling and complex. People are free to enjoy what they want to. And if the TV doesn't showcase this kind of music anymore, it only goes to show how the TV has become utterly irrelevant in today's world. Let the TV rot in peace and enjoy RUclips.
As a pre-teen, I was very much into Classical, and Jazz; as well as the music of my own generation. When I was introduced to Bossa Nova, it hit a different chord in my life. It had elements of Jazz, with a Latin Swing; perfect, as I was entering my teenage dating years. I love that this music is presented, and crafted in its original form. Truly a Treasure from the past... ~~CR~~
Thank you very much for providing us with this great album. Also, thank you for such cool graphics/video. Clearly you are a boss. You're the Boss of Bossa Nova albums.
Yes, I know this is not one of Mr. Schifrin's soundtracks, but, soundtrack fans of Lalo Schifrin should find this pretty sublime... Thanks for posting this great album! :D
Lalo eu respeito. Soube interpretar o novo estilo dos anos 60 que difundiu-se pelo mundo de forma a não dilapidar a Bossa em apenas um digestivo instrumental, mas a valorizar a universal alma brasileira; neste excelente disco. Obrigado a quem postou.
Delightful Brazilian music from the Argentinian maestro Lalo Schifrin. You can imagine yourself sipping a longdrink at the Copacabana beach at night accompanied by a beautiful Brazilian woman. Btw: impressive video. Thanks for the upload!
This is so cool, great stuff; moody, exotic and well played. I feel like I'm in a Bar on top of a big skyscraper in Brazil in the 60's, smoke fills the room...
@AbeWWII - You ARE badass for diggin this performance... I dug it @ 16 and still do, however I was 16 about 45 years ago ! No matter, great music has the ability to cross age, politics, and cultural lines. THANK YOU gilmour509 for making this available to us !
Of all the comments I've read, I'm surprised and disappointed that none have remarked on, and thanked you for, a superb job in crafting these videos. From the lighting and set-up (if anyone thinks I'm joking, try producing a shot as effective as any of these), to the display of liner notes and album graphics, to the marvelous transition between album sides-this effort is clearly a labor of love. Moreover, it's not only a boon to listeners/viewers like me, it also honors the work of these musicians. And yes, I echo the other comments that note what a pleasure the music itself is. (BTW, the same is true of your other videos; it's unfortunate, however, that because of rights issues, most can't be seen now.) I simply wanted to offer a bit of well-deserved praise for creating the total experience here. I mean, at several points I actually caught myself starting to tip-toe around my desk, lest I disturb the tracking of the stylus. On behalf of us all, many thanks for your artful contributions!
@azntranc3951 More power in a lathe means less distortion. The same goes for a good amplifier, too. Having all that extra headroom means at normal levels you'll get a very accurate representation of the original signal. This record probably sounds better simply because the engineers at the time didn't try and make records to be so loud. They tend to really push the envelope today and some are almost impossible to playback properly. They went for clarity back then... :) JC
I've seen so many Vinyl videos and then, I realized this was published 9 years ago! Excellent quality in audio and video, wonderful production! It held up incredibly well in 2020! I love Bossa Nova and have much respect for this album
I own this onlp, and bought it from Sam Goody on 48th St. NYC in 1964. Paid $2.99 on sale from NYT ad. alex1vid is right, too many mistook Lalo's name as Brazilian, but it was marvelous no matter where he originated from. Thanks. I have a Teschniques 1100A, but am impressed with your cartridge.
Wow, the liner notes of this cool LP have Lalo "Boris" adjusting to catching language nuances in the US; by the late '60s his soundtrack music became a staple of American culture through his memorable TV and movie work. Viva Lalo!
Dear Gilmour509: Thank you for Posting & sharing this. You have done us all a great Honor. The sound quality of your Posting is excellent, crystal clear & the music just absolutely beautiful. You need to take a Standing Ovation cause I am applauding you. Respectfuly
I want to congratulate you for three reasons: first, for choosing this kind of music, unique, fantastic, exclusive, and the second, for the excellent production of the album information: precise, organized, elegant and timely, and the third by that sound so impressive, in conclusion, all very professional. I do not know, gilmour509, but I present my respects. You are a true master at this. Congratulations, man!
I'm a 16 year old from the Netherlands and thus use most of these devices you named. I'm not sure how many people still relax and listen to music like your father used to, but I'm one of them. I visit record stores looking for vinyl, including records like the one playing in this video, and listen to them usually with my eyes closed. I don't believe a good record should be treated as 'background' music; it deserves the listener's full attention for at least one listening session.
Thank you so much for your work on these videos that you make. After seeing and listening to your videos I bought the Audio Technica AT-440MLa cartridge to put on my AT-LP120-USB turntable and I love it, the AT-440MLa much more "musical" than the other cartridges I've used in the past. Keep on bringing us the good music, it's way better than listening to the mainstream crap they play these days!!
This is glorious! One of the best, most authentic renditions of Bossa Nova, and of Brazil's musical spirit I have ever heard, and I have been a lover of Samba and Bossa Nova since I can recall - for 50 years, at least! Obrigadão, Gilmour509!
Again, an excellent job to bring us these wonderfully played boosa nova jazz musics. Thanks a million. I will continue to follow your great job. Very professional.
The drums and percussion instruments always sound so clear and crisp on your uploads. The flute in the right channel on the first track is nice and warm...
Superior video in my mind. The historical content and personal accents on musicians is amusing. The music itself seems very familiar. Once again, a true pleasure to see credit for performing artists.
The complex rhythms the drummers can produce for bossa nova is just amazing, and yet so simple too. This type music is so graceful and with all the cultural aspects that are involved in making it's just so special. It truly is beautiful! :')
Some quality speech-craft there, ill be less formal in my comment. This is simply AWESOME piece of art. My life dream would be cocktail on the Copacabana 5am maybe 4:30am, this blasting in my ears from relatively cheap boombox and Zen. Thanks for uploading this.
@gilmour509 Count me in as one who disagrees. This album came out in 1962 just as bossa nova was starting to reach out to other parts of the world. It would be another two years before Getz/Gilberto would be released in the United States. Thank you for this presentation. I always wanted to hear this entire album, and I love the way you presented it. I particularly like how the graphics from the album jump out, so we can read them. Really nice work. Thank you.
I belive that bossa nova is very relaxing for anybody, just try to free their mind to hear it. I never listen to the bossa nova with vocal before, i will give it a try, thanks you.
@cedricsamson thanks the good words! most importently, thank you for pointing out the error on the first upload of the album. the goal for my "Full LP" uploads is the give the end viewer the closest experiance to actually owning the LP. so i wanted to give the viewer more than just watching the record spin, because one of the other great things about vinyl, is having the real-estate on the sleeve for info & technical notes. The AT 440MLa is a wonderful, wonderful cartridge. If your budget ever allows it I'd highly suggest grabbing an AT 150MLX. The sound is quite similar between the two cartridges. The AT 440MLa is nice because it add just a little bit of warm color to the music while the AT 150MLX is precise, as if you're listening to the master tape. Both cartridges are excellent for certain applications.
Top Job! Great sound and the visual you have added is amazing. Thanks for introducing me to Bossa Nova. In honour of epf1961's dad I will pour a glass of whisky amd chill.........
este video lo miro hace años y por suerte sigue estando (ya lo descargue igual). la calidad de sonido es excelente y musicalmente es una obra de arte, gigante LS en este album y la gente que se rodeó!!!
Thank you very much for your kindness, Gilmour. You make a great job with those old precious records. I especially appreciate the care you take in presenting the cover information and technical data. And I also love the neat sober way you organize the videos. Cheers!
Very nice video. Judging from all the comments below Bossa Nova is stilled love by music fans to this day. I am going to check Ebay and see if a clean copy of this LP is for sale.
OMFG!!!! this is truly amazing. thanks from the bottom of my heart for sharing this beauty. I can hear at this 24 hours and never get enough. Easy but not stupid, music flies high and runs smoothly through your ears. Thumbs up for you!
WOW MAN, a nice collection ya got here. Yeah, you're right! Bossa Nova has been around since the early to mid 1950's.I believe Bola Sete was one of many who brought it over to the states & made it popular. BTW, WHO THE HELL IS THIS shaollin1988? This guy don't know JACK SHIT! With a name like shaollin1988, he was still in his daddy's NUTSACK when this music came out. I was born in 1967, & my dad used to listen to the hell out of this music! I LOVE IT! You need to post more bro!
I remember when I was a kid back in the '60s- early '70s, my dad would get home from work, pour a cocktail, go in the living room, switch on the hifi (Dynaco tube separates at the time) & sit in his easy chair and relax..Music like this, jazz, swing, easy-listening.. YOU WILL FALL IN LOVE WITH RIO AND THE CARIOCAS!!!!!!!!

I love it when someone goes the extra mile, this could have just been a blue windows media maker screen. and it was not!!! thanks!
The Great Lalo Schifrin!

bossa nova is like a legal drug, it is very addictive, relaxing, cool and makes you feel good

Шикарный звук.
Лучший звук писался на ламповых Ampex,Telefunken,что мы и слышим.
Такую пластмассу иметь в коллекции за счастье !
The obvious care you took in constructing this video, around this excellent LP, is much appreciated - thank you.
This is the music that my newborn doughter LOVES!!!!!!!!I love brasilian jazz!!!
Family's favorite
Hey , cuatro años sin comentarios y esto sigue sonando . Viva la buena música !!!
Velhos e bons tempos! Lalo é um talento, a trajetória dele como maestro, músico e arranjador é fantástica. Parabéns por esta pérola musical.
Verdade Carlos
As an underground house music DJ (Rustica) I gotta say: This is real music!! :)

Yes, Gilmour509 did an outstanding job. Far more than just ripping an LP to RUclips.
Magnífico e surreal......The best Lalo schifrin.

TIP TOP my friend! - Fond memories of a happier and simpler music business for both musicians and audiences. . . .
Sem arranhão no LP!!!! Ohhhh raridade isso!!! Apenas o "chiadinho" da passagem de músicas. Que legal. Sem a limpeza estéril do cd!!

É bom demais. Adoro essas músicas belíssimas do Brasil. A música mais bela do mundo!!!!!!!!

tanx sir gilmour509, your video pays tribute to this amazing album. kids please go discover Lalo Schifrin asap and Michel Legrand as well.

Some quality speech-craft there,
ill be less formal in my comment.
OMG This is s GIFT, I accept. Thanks to all. LOVE

Brazilian jazz is the best!!
been looking for music like this everywhere- it's nice to relax to.
I've always had a soft spot for AudioFidelity releases. This is an excellent example of why.

this kind of music makes me feel relaxed and peaceful. like I'm somewhere in the beach, enjoying sea waves. or at a cocktail party. Great music!

It's nice to be a true lover of high-fidelity audio... It's ever nicer when you see that you're not alone out there!
Wow, great job on this post! The graphics popping out of the record, all very classy. We need more Lalo Schifrins these days and less Hans Zimmers.
Cet album est une pure merveille ,une navette spaciale de bossa !!!
Thanks for posting this rare vinyl. I have to echo the other 2 posters. Your post is superb. Class act. Enjoyed it!
