- How to 50/50 Stall on Roller Skates. In this video, I teach two different methods to help you nail a 50/50 stall depending on what foot you prefer having in front. Personally, I prefer to have my left foot at the back when turning left or right as it's my more stable foot (it's also my leading leg). Also, I keep my weight more on my back leg so that there is less risk of clipping my toe stop when stalls and especially grinding.
But which way you turn and what leg you have in front is all down to personal preference. I hope this helps you and please tag me on Instagram @shortstop.6 as I would love to see your progress.
In this video, I am wearing the standard width trucks that come on the Bont Tracer plate but I also wear wide Discotruxs to do 50/50 stalls and grinds too.

The left foot lead box stall to the 50/50 is inspiring. You have changed my life
That's great to hear!
The flex in the last second was awesome!
Thank you!
Loved "saftey is sexy". Great videos, really getting into the skatepark after a year of being a beginner skater. 🌻
Park skating is so much fun!
This progression was super clear and looks like it really breaks down getting to the stall! Thank you!
You're very welcome!
Love the step by step approach, I never thought of doing it that way but that feels pretty manageable. Thank you!
You're so welcome!
Really glad I came across this tutorial! 🙌 thank you so much Shorty, you've helped me unlock two of these variations. Now to keep working at them for consistency 😊
Glad I could help!
Thanks
Thank you!
Thanks a lot shorty, nice tips! 👍🏻
Glad it was helpful!
Oh this looks like a great step by step approach!!! Can’t wait to try it!!!
Let me know how it goes!

Thank you so much for this! I've been trying to figure this out (although due to snow, we haven't been lately). Now I know what to try now that our local indoor park is open.
Glad I could help!
Thanks for breaking this down, Shorty!!
Any time!
Now i get it!!! Thank youuu so much!! ❤️🔥❤️🔥
Yay I'm glad!
Do I need slide blocks or wide trucks to do a 50/50 stall?
I haven't tried but I think you could 50/50 stall without slide blocks depending on your kingpin height but you won't be able to grind. I am stalling with narrow trucks in this video, so no you don't need wide trucks for 50/50 stalls
@@ShortysSkateSeries thank you so much! I’m gonna try this when I go skating tomorrow :)
so so informative!
Glad you think so!
Hi shorty - did you find it easier to learn this on standard trucks or is it alright to go straight to wide trucks.
Thank you!
I can't remember what was easier for me, but if you're new to this trick wide trucks may be easier as you have a wider surface to land on. You can also balance more on the deck. But note your set up will be heavier so you will need to pump more.
Shorty, will you do a video on how to air over coping? You mention it as a lead up to practicing 50/50s but I admittedly can't figure how to do them.
It's on my to-do list. Which part of the 50/50 are you having trouble with? You can send me footage on Instagram @shortstop.6 or FB and I can see if I can give you specific tips.
Hey thanks you so much for your video ! I have a little question. When you do the 50/50 position, does your trucks touche the coping or the slidebloc ? :)
I have bont tracer plate, with disco truks and disco block, but I have a small size. So my king pin are lower (by lower I mean closer to the ground) than my truck. My blocks are even lower though. So in 50/50 just my blocks touch the coping. And if I'm a bit too much forward, my king pin will also touch. Is it normal ? Or should I find a way to shorten the king pin ?
Without my kingpin shortened, my 50/50 stalls and grinds are more on my block and my kingpin will clip a little but I was still able to 50/50 grind on ramp coping or ledges as you can roll more on the deck. You won't be able to 50/50 grind on rails until you grind down your kingpins.
I have a video on grinding down my kingpin.

@@ShortysSkateSeries thanks a lot :)
hey shorty, do u have advice on whether it’s ok to try this without slide blocks?
You should be able to try this without slide blocks. And depending on how long your kingpin is, you might be able to 50/50 grind on coping too as you are rolling more on your wheels than grinding on the truck.
Wow! That step 3! Definitely didn’t think to do that. Thank you!!
Glad it was helpful!
I can land 50/50 on the coping everytime but I'm having issues with staying on the coping I tend to have to much momentum and fall onto the deck instead of leaning towards the transition any tips??
You might have too much speed that throws your body weight onto the deck. Maybe try to reduce the speed but add more pump. Feel free to DM me some footage to my IG @shortstop.6 and I can have a look and see if I can spot anything
Damn, for me already the step on is impossible. How do you even stay there? Even holding onto the railing does not help, the wide trucks slid down the coping sideways
You want to try and land with more of your trucks on the deck side and just have your wheel hanging over the coping. You can also help balance by shifting your weight into the hip deck side
What is your plate?
I have the Bont Tracer plate with the standard narrow trucks it comes with. But I do use the Discotrux for the wide trucks
Out of curiosity, where in 2025 people wear face masks?
This was filmed 4 years ago, but I know in Korea during spring they wear masks every year due to the fine yellow dust pollution. If it's really bad they do a health warning for children and elderly to stay indoors.
@ thanks. I thought is a new video. 4 years ago world was upside down.
