It’s pretty sad that malls just have gone by the wayside. Growing up the mall was the hang out. We would get on a bus Saturday morning and take it to the mall. Play some video games. Check out a couple stores get some food and head home. I hope these malls find a new life that we can enjoy one day.
I am so happy I grew up in a period when malls were thriving. I have so many wonderful memories hanging out with my friends in our local mall. Thanks for watching Dude!
I’ve been to many movies at that theater when I was in college in Columbia in the early 80s. Lots of midnight movies. 😃 I did shop some at the mall, but not a lot. I think at one time Belk was an anchor store.
Me too. At least we have our memories. Todays generation will never know how much fun hanging out at your local mall eating junk food and talking to friends is like.
It’s kinda sad seeing how it died…I used to go there almost every weekend when I was little! It’s unfortunate how a lively place that was always jammed packed turned into a ghost town.
Good update video. On a positive note, Richland County is currently building offices in one of the old anchors for health and law enforcement offices. The mall is way less than 50% occupancy. It’s a shame you did not go into Macys. The entrance from the outside had an amazing two story atrium with massive trees and a walkover bridge. Employees at the Macys have told me the Macys part of the mall is actually owned by the retailer, so there is a chance it might not be on the chopping block for 2024 closure like many other locations. The mall is mostly urban wear and local vendors at this time, which is good to see small businesses having a chance to be in a mall. I assume you will be posting a video of the Richland mall demolition and maybe the dying Dutch Square Mall? The Columbiana Mall is the money mall of Columbia. Lots of growth on the Irmo / Lexington / Lake Murray side of Columbia. The Columbia area has sooooo much dead and dying retail, I could film for days! The city hit very hard times as the agricultural and livestock industries fell here in SC. It’s hanging on thanks to it being the capital city and also USC being downtown and a major economic driver. Lots of northerners moving to SC and Columbia, Myrtle, Charleston, Rock Hill and Greenville are popular relocation spots. Thanks again for the video!
Thank for all the wealth of information. I would love to film at the other tow malls you speak of. I will try working it into my schedule. Thanks again my friend.👍
We have not ever shopped at this mall. I'm sure back in the day this place was hopping. I'm surprised the building is even open with all the issues in the mall. The building has definitely seen it's better days. I also miss malls too!
Sadly malls are a thing of the past. I love walking through trying to imagine what it was like when it was a hustling shopping area. Thanks for watching my friends.
I grew up going to Columbia Mall and I worked at that Sears for 7 years. I think that location of Sears closed in 2017 or 2018. The walled off JCPenney is being converted to state offices at least that is my understanding. That mall was absolutely amazing and beautiful in the 90s and early 2000s
That sounds like good times! I remember driving with a few friends to Charlotte back in the mid 90’s. We went to the Eastland Mall. It had an ice skating rink if my memory serves me correctly. Thanks for watching my friend. Have a great weekend!👍
Do you think the Columbia Place Mall will thrive again in the future?
@@HitchHikingYeti no the gangs and crime in that area makes it too dangerous for the average citizen to want to shop there
@@ColeFamilyFarms I did not know that. Be safe!

It's depressing. Was at this mall over the weekend, and it is truly dead,
@@kieronevans5150 💯 totally

That is cool. Do you have a favorite movie title that you watched in that theater?
@@HitchHikingYeti My friends & I saw Monty Python & the Holy Grail dozens of times. That was our midnight movie of choice. 😃
@@jwoo222 Awesome!😀
that card shop and its owner is the coolest! i believe he hosts weekly meetups for card tournaments like magic the gathering, pokémon, etc….
That is great to hear! Thanks for watching my friend.
This isn’t really surprising, that mall didn’t have many if any good stores 20 years ago.
I love a dead mall tour! I miss malls!!! Such good times.
Me too. At least we have our memories. Todays generation will never know how much fun hanging out at your local mall eating junk food and talking to friends is like.
Thank you for the tour. It’s very sad that beautiful mall is dying.😢
You are welcome Carolyn. Thanks for so much for watching my friend.

Thanks for sharing some of your memories. Other than the mall being mostly vacant. I thought it was amazing looking. Thanks for watching my friend.
I remember being a teen running around east ridge mall in gastonia...watching movies there

I imagine that used to be a nice mall. It's just awful that it looks that way now.
I agree Becky. Thanks for watching my friend. Have a good day!
We've got 3 malls here around Tampa that are still striving
That is awesome! I think if you have the right ownership in place. A mall can still thrive.
Richard E Jacob’s owned the Cleveland Indians not sure if he still does, fun fact!
That is a cool fun fact. Thanks!
