Wow mate! All that detail in the Annie model. I got the plans from you 6 months ago and have just finished building her as per the plans. I was going to put her in the water for the first time today but the wind is just a bit strong, tomorrow we are expecting 6kns so can't wait. I will be getting more plans from you soon.😊
From all of us who have trouble keeping our crayons between the lines in our colouring books, thank YOU for your many robust designs that so easily lend themselves to creative modifications. And thanks for sharing views of the many treasures hidden in Annie's interior!
And a big Thank you Zbip57, for your ongoing enthusiasm and support, and for sharing with all of us your own schooner 'Kamanik' project. Careful with those crayons!
My grandpa and I both love boats and sailing, but I live in a landlocked state and my grandparents moved here to be closer to family. He really misses sailing and dreams about it often. I think one of your boats will be the perfect project for me to do with him. They look beautiful and I cant stop watching the videos of them sailing. Great job!
Omg!! I am waited for IT! I am from Hungary, and I am 14 years old, and I Will build my own RC sailboat cuz the boats on the internet are Very big Cost. You help ME with your vids a lot. Thanx! Love from Hungary 🇭🇺🇭🇺🇭🇺🇭🇺!
Thanks for your comment Huba. Be creative and build with common materials, you can build your own sailboat. I encourage you to do so, expecting it to be a learning experience that will reward you with satisfaction.
Just love your videos! I'm hoping to make an RC sailboat this winter. I'm up in New England and often go to Newport and Cape Anne; Rockport and Gloster.
Great video Gary! I like your message of exercising creativity with the building of your sailboat designs. Having creative "license" can certainly add to the enjoyment of the build. Your sailboat interiors a exceptional! Well done!
Excellent timing Gary. I just got back from a day on a lake near my home. I took my version Irene. She's been out a few times now and I've made a few modifications and have learned a lot from her. She's a beauty!
Gary just picked up 3 of your plans... Thanks for your quick response to my questions regarding rounding out hulls. Well laid out plans. You have captured their beauty just as they are and as you say here, which I think is inspiring, that one can add a little of their own vision to the design as well. If I get a chance to build even one Ill be very happy. Thanks for sharing all the how-to videos for everyone, Stay safe so you can share more time with us and new designs, please!!
Thanks for your purchase of the plans. I too will be happy for you to build one, but be aware that the building can be quite enjoyable and many folks can't stop at just one! Cheers!
Gary you are quite amazing! Just ordered paper plans of Irene and Annie. Really looking forward to building both of them and sailing on Windermere here in the North West of England (English Lakes).
You really so welcome Gary! I really like your channel!! One of these days when I finish restoring my Falmouth Cutter I plan to get back into RC... Never built a boat but I am sure going to try! Your plans and sailboats are just world class!! Fair winds!!
Hi Gary. Another great vidio. I have always wanted to put an iterior in one of my models and actualy thought about doing it in my Annie build. The build is going really well, am about to start on masts, rigging and sails. When I have got her sailing may well look to an interior modification. Stay well. Peter
Great insight, Gary! And now a whole lot more of us have seen those amazing interiors. (Love that the bear rides a motorcycle.) 😊 Working on Flyer has been a fun diversion for me during these interesting times, so please know that you are contributing to the peace of mind of all who buy your plans, build your boats and watch your fun and relaxing videos. I purchased the Annie and Irene set last night as well, and will tuck those away for when Flyer is finished. (Might build the little dory to put on Flyer's deck, though.) Keep up the great work!
So glad Fred, to hear that you are enjoying the boat building. However, I must clarify something for I do not want to perpetuate false rumors. That motorcycle belongs to Bear's girlfriend ! Cheers!
@@sailtails2775 Thank you Gary.In the next time i will order the plans for the gaff cutter flyer(Bristol channel pilot cutter),or in German Lotsenkutter.Since i was 9,i built sailing boats and draw them. Some fellows here in Hamburg have built your fantastic Sloop Emma. When i hear Sloop Emma,i am thinking about the song from the Beach Boys"Sloop John B.Last Saturday i started my 26year old"one Love"the Graupner Saphir sailing yacht, after 10 years in the dockyard, with rc sailing. It is an amazing hobby, and you give me the inspiration. Thanks a lot ! Hello! Greetings from Argentina! I want to construct my first rc sailboat, a very simple one, but I don't really understand how does work the system that moves the sails, where can I read about it?, and where I can found boat planes, thanks you!
Love seeing your boats, it always makes me happy! I did want to ask though, have you ever considered building a boat with square sails? I know it would be harder to sail, but it would be pretty cool to build a man-o-war with scale cannons and everything. Or, maybe there's a warship out there with triangular sails that I'm simply unaware of. What are your thoughts on it?
Haha, fair enough! I'll have to do some more digging to see if anyone has done a video anywhere near as detailed as one of yours, and if not, maybe I'll be the first!
Thanks Scooter Don for asking. The plans do cover RC control system layout and servo recommendations. Early on, I recommended a radio which I used, but that radio was discontinued by its maker. Happily, most any 2.4 ghz airplane type radio will serve for these boats. Todays radio options offer more features at lower cost than the radios of 5 years ago.
As I understand it, all plywood these days is made with waterproof glue, however any plywood still needs protection from water intrusion. A good paint job will give the needed protection. I suggest first sealing the plywood, preferably with penetrating epoxy, then priming and painting with brushed on oil based enamels.
Beautiful sailboats indeed. I am interested in adding one of your models to my already growing fleet but neither have the time nor the space to build one. Do you have any of your models for sale? I understand you live in Ensenada, I do too reside in Mexico and can drive there to pick it up. Great work sir!
Gary, do I understand correctly that your first Irene with the interior details sails with rudder control with fixed, uncontrolled sheets? If so, how does that work out?
Yes Robert, that is so. It actually works out surprisingly well. I adjust the sheets so that the sails are sheeted in, but not too close in. Experiment to find a "happy" spot and she will be able to reach, run, and make her way (quite well) to windward. That said, I encourage builders to install a sail control system because it does provide the avid sailor "Skipper" with hands on (fun) involvement and the ability to trim for best performance.
Thanks Gary, I am building a couple of Dumas Ace Sloops. The are designed as free sailers. Your experience encourages me to try them as rudder only. They are only 16 inches at the waterline so they don't have much displacement. Rudder only will simplicate and add considerable lightness.
What a great and inspiring video! Love the bearospace name! My guess is you're an aeronautical engineer, so I gotta ask: have you ever thought of adding roughness to the leading edge of the sails as they do in wind tunnel testing of small models?
I have not. Here's the skinny. Bearospace was founded by my son who has a knack for airplane design. I am a retired boat builder with a fondness for traditional sailing craft. My son provided a page of his website to offer my model sailboat designs. www.bearospaceindustries.com/boats2.html
Give it a try, sailing is easily learned by doing, and safe. You are not likely to get hurt like you could if you were operating heavy equipment ! (tongue in cheek)
Hi Gary. As you may remember I made an 80% Irene. This linear reduction gives 50% on the displacement and therefore half the weight. The scaling was done by simply printing out 80% size from the original plans. I had to do a bit of fiddling on the control because of the space. Here are 2 youtubes of mine ruclips.net/video/P0nS7YAosCs/видео.html on the building ruclips.net/video/KCxF96R2IdA/видео.html and sailing of Irene. I have printed out an 80% Annie and have all the materials but not worked on for 2 years. I enjoy rewatching your videos. I hope you are in good health and that all is well at Bearospace. All the best, Irving
Thank You Irving ! All is well at Bearospace. We appreciate the videos of your schooner 'Irene' project and your earlier sloop 'Emma' videos as well. The lake you sail on is such a beautiful setting ! and with cows ! Cheers !
Thanks James for asking. The lead ballast bulb is DIY. Emma, Annie & Flyer plans describe making a wooden mold and casting the bulb right onto the aluminum fin.
Certainly a full size boat resembling 'Annie' is feasible, but boats do not simply scale up (or down) well, so a proper design process at the intended size would be the key to success. Gotta add, I do think an 'Annie' type could be a fantastic cruising boat. (dream time anybody?)
Cheers for Leo & Tally Ho ! Fantastic project and fine videos here on youtube ! He's young and strong now. Indeed the day will come, he'll get the the size factor figured out.
I want to thank you, Gary, for the beautiful design you created. We've built the gaff version of the "Irene" project (ruclips.net/video/aVBFy8EbPoM/видео.html). It looks and performs great! Thank you, Sir, from Ukraine.

Thanks so much for sharing Gary! Love the look of your boats so have just ordered a set of plans for Emma. Thanks again.

No sailboats ??? Yet !!! Be inspired, Have no fear !
Brilliant!
Gary you are quite amazing! Just ordered paper plans of Irene and Annie. Really looking forward to building both of them and sailing on Windermere here in the North West of England (English Lakes).

Thanks Peter, glad to hear your 'Annie' build is coming along well.
Gary, this is a fantastic view at your designs, and the fun that they offer.
Thanks for the comment, these boats are all about having fun!
Hi I'm working on an old sailing boat and just wondering if you have a video on how to set up the slider sail system
Hey Garry, good to see you - and especially good to see you looking well.
Still loving your boats,
Noel
Thanks Noel, always good to hear from you!

Great video! I’m just finishing the hull on a meter long sparrow design yacht. Can’t wait to add some “custom” details as well. Great job!
Thanks for the comment. Adding your own touches surely can add to the satisfaction of scratch building.
Yeah Im building my flyer and I been going a bit out of plans way to add some details , awesome boats can't wait to see it all done
Maybe you can show your 'Flyer' to all of us, we'd all like to see her !
Nice video Gary, i can't wait when mij Irene is ready to sailing.
Thanks Bert. I hope we will hear a report when your 'Irene' sets sail. Cheers !
Awesome attention to detail, nice fleet!!
Top sailboats ! Best regards from North Germany/Hamburg.Kitty

Awe shucks, Thanks!

Thank you Ari !
Very Nice Gary
Do your plans include RC rigging information?
Do you recommend a radio and servo set with your plans?

Very, very nice Modelships! You make a great job.

Very nice! I have some of your plans and I'd like to make one. Is 'waterproof' plywood mandatory or would plain plywood do?
As I understand it, all plywood these days is made with waterproof glue, however any plywood still needs protection from water intrusion. A good paint job will give the needed protection.
I suggest first sealing the plywood, preferably with penetrating epoxy, then priming and painting with brushed on oil based enamels.

Thanks for asking, but no I do not. It's a DIY thing.
tis is some fine craftment great to see tis woud love to have you as a grandpa
Glad you liked it, Thanks !
If only I knew how to sail with the wind, I'd try building a sailboat. The 2 boats I have both have motors in them. One was entirely 3D printed.
Give it a try, sailing is easily learned by doing, and safe. You are not likely to get hurt like you could if you were operating heavy equipment ! (tongue in cheek)
