If you are not already using a rotary sharpener get one. A regular sharpener puts a twisting force on the pencil and puts cracks in the soft core of a colored pencil. Rotary sharpeners don't do that, they shave the wood in a forward direction like when you are using a razor blade to sharpen a pencil, and there'll be less instances of the tip breaking when you are sketching.
