Try this method I made
Chain 2 if your making magic ring only for Sc(make the stitches at the first chain)
Chain 3 if you making magic ring only for Sc(make the stitches at the first chain)

Here‘s the easiest one ever: chain one, wrap the loose tail into a circle, make the next chains into that circle that is now your magic ring :)

Yes velvet yarn for amigurumi is totally fine, the texture of the yarn makes the plushie more beautiful and softer :D but if you are beginner it will be hard to see stitches and it’s quite shredding while crocheting and slippery so it hard for you to control the tension
