I don't care what yall say...this dude's flow is from his heart...from his struggle...thats what makes real music. When the beat is playing and he's expressing his self and his life through his music, nothing else matters. (especially not those people who think he isn't "hood" enough)
+Hyron Harrison I think its a confidence issue, young japanese men nowadays have zero confidence and a shitload of social anxiety, hence why people think they are pussies (and also why the population and birth rate of japan is sinking like a motherfuck)
He’s carrying so much pain from his mom not being there. And then when you talk to her you see she’s in just as much pain from losing her husband. Thank God for the grandparents.
***** Being from England myself, the estate (projects) are complete shit holes, and there's not just that, there's whole area's of really crap housing (I used to live there)… That being said , yes we have a "low crime rate" buts only because the police don't note a lot of the crimes down, they just give warnings instead. They do that because if they have lower crime rate, they get better funding, if they actually show the crime rate in the area, that area police, would get lower funding, I know it's fucked up.
***** I used to live in Luton lol … Yeah that's true it does have a lower crime rate that a lot of cities in the world, but London's also split into small parts, some area's hold most of the crimes going on.
Vice should do a documentary like this on Korean hip hop. Kohh and another Japanese rapper Loota recently collaborated with Korean rappers Keith Ape, Jay Allday & Okasian from The Cohort on the track "It G Ma".
I believe what Daidara is trying to express is that Japan Hip-Hop has been around longer and deserve the respect and coverage it's getting due to the fact that Japan has been rocking with Rap, Reggae, R&B, and other genres created by the Black community since its birth. Which Koreans came afterwards. So in short: Koreans will get their proper shine eventually.
I see alot of ppl talk about how "nice' Their projects look? But are you listening? This nigga was just talkin about how his father died and how his mother wasnt even there. how she was off doin drugs. How some of the ppl he was wit stabbin ppl. His friend was talkin about how his father was a Meth addict. Same struggles niggaz live wit in the hood. So dont knock it cuz it looks "nice". Japan actually cares so they try to keep things nice. Unlike Merica where they wana just oppress thee oppressed even further. I fuck wit this nigga mane. I swear ppl are closed minded. Too many ppl judge a book w/o even knowin shit.
for real tho, I dont think people actually paid attention to how many people were crammed inside those buildings. That one dude said he lived with 5 people in that small ass room.
Every color can live with this struggle. Partying , drugs , murder , and being raised by your grandmother isnt exclusively to blacks. That shit has been happening since forever. Bruh anyone can relate to real life . because thats what this is. Everyone wasnt going through this life . But everyone knows about it - or knows somebody that went throught this.. This shit aint changed , since the begginning.
I've been paying attention to Okasian for a min because of The Quiett... But after hearing everyone Kohh has the best flow I've ever heard from someone in a different language.
Why are there so many comments about how he doesn't have it bad just because their projects look nice or that they're copying black people? Firstly, it's not a contest. You shouldn't brag about who had it worse. If anything, you should be able to empathize and know that no matter where you are in the world, there is struggle everywhere. It can look nice enough on the outside and still have people on the inside who have problems. Secondly, music isn't restricted to just one demographic. Music is art. That's something universal. We should want others to take something that's commonly a part of us and make something themselves so we'll have more innovation. More importantly, music is supposed to be something that transcends race, language, and cultures. It's not something to be kept with one and not given to the other. Music is here to teach us, to guide us, to uplift us. I guess I can understand the xenophobia a little, but the world is much bigger than what y'all are making it.
+MaoKittyMaoMao It's not wrong to be surprised. The hoods here make this look like the Burj Khalifa... Are you really telling me to not feel a little weird about something I would pay good money to live in being considered projects? Acknowledging that doesn't mean you are making it a contest...
+Betrayer:HTX Ya but the Projects in detroit or New Orleans etc... are paradise compared to the outright slums in Bombay, Haiti, Nairobi, Calcutta, Lagos or Rio. Murica is a first world country wether one likes it or not.
Sohan Deshpande No they are not. The project are absolutely 3rd world here in the South. And that's not the point anyways, non sequitur. I was talking about them being upset about comparing Japanese and American projects. Both of those are first world countries, so I'm not sure why you are comparing them to places like Haiti, Nairobi, etc.
Yeah if you compare between Japan and the USA, Japan is better in taking care of its poor, you are right there. But that guy said murica is third world, that is why I clarified, people do not know what third world really is. I have seen projects in America as well as slums in India and Nairobi. Trust me, the slums in the Third World are hell.Betrayer:HTX
foreigners shouldn't judge J-rap based on this video. hip hop culture and music have been around since the 80s, and the golden age has just ended. Hip hop is entering a new phase in Japan, where artists have more freedom to express their lives free of taboo, meaning they are beginning to open up about crime, serious social issues, drugs and gang problems. While gangsta rap is big in the states, it has a growing element in Japan as many artists are actually living similar lives being in connection to local gangs, or being the offspring of gang members. While J-rap got its fundamentals from America many years ago, it has taken a life of its own. The significance of this video shows that hip hop is becoming mainstream in Japan as well, the artist they are showcasing, "KOHH" doesn't necessarily have the musical qualifications a rapper may desire, but has the experience and troubled life one would, and is able to express through rap. Dutch Montana, you'd have to be dumb to think he's taking the game seriously. Have a look at Lil B. If you take that nigga seriously and are unable to appreciate him for his satirical position on hip hop, then you don't deserve to listen to the genre. Japanese rappers are no different from any other fool. tldr; J-rap has its Biggie Smalls' and it also has its Will Smiths. RIP Tokona X & Nujabes
I don't understand what "Taking the game seriously" is supposed to mean. What they perceive in Japan as "taking the game seriously" is a lot different than what Americans perceive. They rap, they have fun, and they talk about things in their life, is that any different than American rappers? Tell me what Dutch Montana raps about that mainstream Americans aren't rapping about that makes him "not take the game seriously." Last I checked, 99% of American rappers just talk about weed and hoes. Besides, Hip-Hop culture is small in Japan, always has been, K Dub Shine isn't some multi millionaire rapper with millions of fans, and he's out of your so called "Golden Age." Why do you think it was significant that Samurai Champloo had a Hip-Hop focus? Because it's not common. So let these dudes have fun and bring the genre to more mainstream success. Also, free my homie Dutch Montana.

Kohh props to you for spreading the hiphop culture in Japan. I found out about Kohh from Keith Apes MV and even though I feel a fool for not knowing about you earlier, I'm glad I do now I will continue to support Japanese HipHop.
This proves that HIP HOP not rap(whites execs make made cash off of people who sell their soul to make it out of poverty) is felt and universal and saying that its not Japanese is no different from saying basketball is not or Ramen is not American, who gives a shit music is like food it brings people together and hopefully tells a story of good times or history.
Brandon Glaze Actually it is, rapping is an element of Hip Hop along with bboying, writing, and scratching, can't forget beatboxing as well. The term "rapper" has just been commercialized over the years but I think thats where you got it confused. Rapping is still an element of Hip Hop, brother.
I ended up visiting Shinkamiya Bridge and the place Kohh said he painted went I went to Japan. I am such a big fan of Kohh, and seeing these places in person was amazing.
This doc, simplys says "Every country, major city, has a ghetto/project" realest doc ive seen, much love to KOHH and all his homies, if KOHH reads this DO YOUR THANG HOMIE! LOVE AND PEACE FROM THE STATES I SUPPORT 100000000000000000 !
Hip hop stopped being a strictly American art form long time ago, just like it stopped being a strictly east coast art form even earlier. Because Hip Hop often (or at least used to) vocalize the struggles of the lower class it resonates with a lot of people. Heck, as corny as they might seem, they are more authentic than a lot of American rappers--look at Drake, hes from a fucking upscale neighborhood in Canada and he acts like hes a thug from Atlanta... and even worse, people actually buy into it. So I say, hats off to these guys; do whatever gets you ahead in life.
Thank you so much for sharing this! I just recently started getting into his music and it's nice to know his background. Thank you for taking the time to tape this video AND put subtitles to it 😁😁😁
Obviously things like "projects" are different in every country because every country has a different standard of living. He told the story about how the police made him and his friends paint over the graffiti they made. That shows that Japan cares about keeping their country nice, even the areas where people are slightly below middle class are kept clean and not forgotten about and ignored by the rest of the country.
Brazilians would laugh at any project thats not in Brazil.. You're in a 3rd world country with possibly the worst crime rate.. Hell, even Americans are in no position to laugh at Japans projects.
SALO or The 120 Days of Sodom: I can't eat rice with my hands like this... Then eat Isht! also call me ignorant, but does brazil even have projects? I thought your "hood" is nothing but shantytowns.
This really moved me. Makes me want to go out to Oji despite violence...just to hug Kohn. Trying to make a difference by spreading hip- hop to his culture and he doesn't bash where he came from. Not a lot of guys like him. He's the definition of humble gotta meet this guy😊❤️😋 Kohn you're amazing.
Every country . State and continent has a bad Side .. or hood no matter what .... everybody has there own hip hop . Hip hop dose not just go for black people
your not understanding what Zian was saying.... he meant that there are "bad" neighborhoods everywhere and each place has it's version of hip-hop. No matter the street or country we live in, we all express ourselves in some way
***** no they didnt hip-hop started in the bronx and if scottish invented it then black people would have been told instantly that it was already invented
It's strange how hip hop is universal and can be enjoyed everywhere. But the creators of hip hop, Black men and women, we still have racial hate to us. Maybe it's just me? But it's still nice to see hip hop in different countries! I like Kohh too.
There is a short documentary about who started rap and record scratching and it was not latinos.....where were all the great latino rappers during the creation of rap, and why were they absent from the hip hop scene during it's glory days?..listening and performing spanish music that's where.....stop trying to take and give credit to people who had nothing to do with the creation of black music. If anything you should be thanking black people for paving the way for latinos to live as freely as they do in America(civil rights).....peace!
im not trying to romanticize poverty or anything like that but somehow it kind of inspires me to see these people be proud of where they are, like their trying to make the best out of really hard situations
Cool to see how Kohh grew up! Kohh fan all the way from Sweden. Also the projects are the same all around the world, country doesn't mater people be still struggling.

I had an opportunity to meet with KOHH another day, he sounds a very humble dude.
Kohh props to you for spreading the hiphop culture in Japan. I found out about Kohh from Keith Apes MV and even though I feel a fool for not knowing about you earlier, I'm glad I do now I will continue to support Japanese HipHop.
Where can I find the instrumental for the song at 11:58???
Thanks....
I’m watching this again in 2022. Things have been changed a lot. This video has already become a nostalgic recording of Kohh and his homies.
This proves that HIP HOP not rap(whites execs make made cash off of people who sell their soul to make it out of poverty) is felt and universal and saying that its not Japanese is no different from saying basketball is not or Ramen is not American, who gives a shit music is like food it brings people together and hopefully tells a story of good times or history.
my man
Rap is Hip Hop.
The truth my brother.
Shoujoboy51 Rap Isn't Hip Hop my man
Brandon Glaze Actually it is, rapping is an element of Hip Hop along with bboying, writing, and scratching, can't forget beatboxing as well.

'The projects' in Japan really look clean, well maintained and safe!
I love KOHH I can just sleep to his voice.
This video is how I discovered Kohh and Japanese rap 10 years ago
Hip hop stopped being a strictly American art form long time ago, just like it stopped being a strictly east coast art form even earlier. Because Hip Hop often (or at least used to) vocalize the struggles of the lower class it resonates with a lot of people. Heck, as corny as they might seem, they are more authentic than a lot of American rappers--look at Drake, hes from a fucking upscale neighborhood in Canada and he acts like hes a thug from Atlanta... and even worse, people actually buy into it. So I say, hats off to these guys; do whatever gets you ahead in life.
drake is as soft as soft serve, so that reference is discrediting the rest of this for me big dawg.
Thank you so much for sharing this! I just recently started getting into his music and it's nice to know his background. Thank you for taking the time to tape this video AND put subtitles to it 😁😁😁
those projects llook wayyyy better than my dorm in college
Brazilian here. I laughed when he showed the ''projects''. That's a middle class apartment to me.
i get what you saying lol
Obviously things like "projects" are different in every country because every country has a different standard of living. He told the story about how the police made him and his friends paint over the graffiti they made. That shows that Japan cares about keeping their country nice, even the areas where people are slightly below middle class are kept clean and not forgotten about and ignored by the rest of the country.
i mean what you expect, japan is still a first world country
Track that kicks in at 13:04 is actually pretty dope! "Roll like a sushi" lol!
Name of the song ??

Nujabes was the best. Period.
Every country . State and continent has a bad Side .. or hood no matter what .... everybody has there own hip hop . Hip hop dose not just go for black people
^
Black people invented it tho
your not understanding what Zian was saying....
he meant that there are "bad" neighborhoods everywhere and each place has it's version of hip-hop. No matter the street or country we live in, we all express ourselves in some way
***** no they didnt hip-hop started in the bronx and if scottish invented it then black people would have been told instantly that it was already invented
zian lucho black people created hip hop stop trying to steal black culture, other races been stealing everything from blacks since the start
It's strange how hip hop is universal and can be enjoyed everywhere. But the creators of hip hop, Black men and women, we still have racial hate to us. Maybe it's just me? But it's still nice to see hip hop in different countries! I like Kohh too.
welcome to cultural appropriation. they hated that one Filipino that was 'dark skinned' imagine if they met someone from Nigeria
+Stanley Guzman or someone really dark skinned
+Dark Angel no it's black culture like the Japanese dude say
+Dark Angel PREACH
There is a short documentary about who started rap and record scratching and it was not latinos.....where were all the great latino rappers during the creation of rap, and why were they absent from the hip hop scene during it's glory days?..listening and performing spanish music that's where.....stop trying to take and give credit to people who had nothing to do with the creation of black music. If anything you should be thanking black people for paving the way for latinos to live as freely as they do in America(civil rights).....peace!
The comments on this video literally turned my soul to ashes.
😂😂😂

im not trying to romanticize poverty or anything like that but somehow it kind of inspires me to see these people be proud of where they are, like their trying to make the best out of really hard situations
well, love from Phil. We're grateful for your music here
I call that a fucking condo, come to the bronx NY and see what projects look like.. i wanna live in a japanese
osas201 tbh i thought they lived in a block of flats from where i come from (watts, LA) thats a luxury
Word...gun hill road 86-88 was crazy people were throwing trash out the window literrally!
osas201 Its all a matter of perspective right? Anybody living in a garbage dump in India would wonder what the hell you were complaining about.
