Greetings: Happy Holidays and New Year to you and family. I appreciate your work and the struggle to speak in Engish. My maternal grandparents were German immigrants to New York City between WW1 & WW2. He made wurst for a major supplier of packaged meats. He met my grandmother while here. They both had family that needed help after the war so they sent numerous packages to Kassel and Marburg. I did not learn too much Deutsche to speak, but I had a German language class in middle school but was doing poorly in English, so I lost my German class. I think you did a fine job on the radio. I notice that most German radios have identical displays and controls. My stepfather brought a fine Grundig console radio phonograph to my home. It was purchased at the time when stereo records were popular, but before FM stereo was available in Grundig equipment. I am a retired Hollywood television engineer and use RUclips channels to feed my need to diagnose faulty equipment. My first recap job is the simple hot chassis 5 tube radio I built in middle school shop almost 60 years ago. I bought all new caps and misc.other parts. Today I was assembling a dim bulb unit with a bypass switch for full power when ready. I am holding off on the variac since I am supposed to be clearing out my hoard of used parts, so my ex-wife doesn't have to do it herself later. Have you noticed that backup battery banks fail due to poor quality MICRO USB connectors, not worn out Lithium cells? Also I am sorry to hear that Germany is so afraid of Nuclear radiation that it has idled its existing power plants and is urging low grade coal instead. I am a fan of Molten Salt Reactors fuelled by Thorium hexaflouride (UF6). They are hampered by the regulators that only know about uranium light water reactors like are built in Germany. But, I must stop before I make an enemy of the fearful people that do not know they are no longer being green. I did notice all your neighbors roofs with Photo Voltaic solar panels. Auf vetershen(?).
Thank you for your comment, happy New Year to you and your family too. Indeed I have noticed that also with those battery banks. Uselly it are the poor usb connectors and solderings. My grandparents are from the Netherlands, just like my parents and myself. I am born in The Netherlands and lived here for almost my entire life. I don't know what made you think that I am a German? But maybe it is for the same reason as that you have "French fries" in stead of Belgium fries. About the solar cells on my neighbors rooftops, they are not off grid systems. So I really don't see the point in that for obvious reasons (when do you need electricity the most?) Now they used to get money for the over capacity wich they actually deliverd back to the grid. But from 1 jan. They stopped that. All the best and thank you for watching.
I actually had this same model, I remember sitting listening to news n music,, the smell of the bakelite, the smell of the tubes warming up , the back panel with the holes cast a beautiful shadow on the wall ,, the sound of the radio reception going in and out , I love these grundig tube radios, I would love to get my hands on the grundig 4055 3D klang
Selamat malam bapak radionya sangat bagus sekali , terimakasih banyak sudah berbagi Vidio yang sangat bagus sekali ,sehat selalu sekeluarga ya di manapun berada amin 🙏
Nice. I have now Grundig 3043 W/3D at home. I'm trying to get this thing working too. I put the voltage on it today and there is only noise from the amplifier. Now I need to learn how to test the tubes. All components appear to be installed in the device. That's going to be very exciting. Thank you for your video!
Thank you for watching! It is a very nice hobby indeed. What you need to start with is a dim bulb. That is basically just a standard light bulb (around 60 watts) in series with your radio. In that way you protect your radio in case of a short and it wil also help reform electrolytic capcitors as a temporary fix. So you can see if the radio works. After that you would have to replace the capacitors anyway. Testing tubes without a tubetester is not possible. You can however see if the tubes light up and get warm after a few minits. That gives an indication that the tubes get voltage and that the filaments are fine. Succes with your radio!
Eeen hele beste radio heb zelf een paar maanden terug een grundig 5060 gehad van een collega die was alleen een beetje stoffig de binnenkant is bijna het zelfde als die van jou
Hi Leon, quick question. I’m new to tube radio restoration (basically everything I know is from watching your videos 😉) I’m working on a Grundig 9068 that was in absolutely horrid condition. So far I was able to get, power and a strong FM signal however I only have sound coming from the 3 electrostatics and nothing from the 2 drivers (it’s a console unit). I know there could be a number of problems but is this a common symptom of anything? Just looking to be pointed towards what I should be considering to inspect next... Thank you!!!
Good job! Thank you and accept greetings from Russia. I have several Sabas and Grundings of 50's in my restoration works. Dream to get some 3d models. Do you have David Icke on you tv screen behind you on last minutes of the video ? Best regards, Mike.
Thank you very much for watching my video's. Greetings to you too! I only have one Saba, plays very well but I have no cabinet for it because it comes out of a console (Freiburg12) and has 2x the very expensive ELL80. Yes well spotted, on the screen behind me was David. All the best to you!
