Good info, I had to figure this out on my own. I’m glad to see an instructor is coming out to say all this.

Nice job! Just as balance is central to bicycle riding, breathing is central to scuba not only for sustaining life but also for maintaining buoyancy. Breathing skill also sets the stage for diver relaxation and extending dive time. The UTD approach gets breathing-for-control into the picture immediately and builds from there, rather than confusing the student with a disjointed assemblage of compartmentalized skills and gear components. Bravo!

Your technique of diving without equipment on is suitable for students who have no background in water sports. A great way to build up their confidence.

Ben, thank you so much for your effort of making all these diving tips videos on RUclips. I have learnt so much supplementary from your generous sharing.
To me, you are like the Obi Wan Kenobi in Scuba diving. Coincidentally, he is Ben, too. LOL!

There is a difference between slowing/stopping your breathing and "holding your breath" though. Pausing breathing in or out is very different from breathing in and closing your airway - which is the conventional meaning for "holding your breath". The important thing is keeping your airway open.
If you're going to say it's ok to hold your breath, please make clear that it's *not* ok to breath in and close your airway - the airway must remain open.

Then you must be a fit guy with good muscle mass. Muscles are heavier than the fatty tissue. So in some cases, like you. You might sink. But probably not to the bottom but just under the surface. Right. ?

Ben Bos shoot, I’m super out of shape. Built like a twig. Not much muscle, and probably got lead in my head. 😂 Yeah, I was about 6 inches below the surface. Might just dive with a tool of quarters in my pocket 😆
