When we started modding as a bunch of CMS guys, we did it EXPECTING the new Hypercar regulations from WEC that would take the world by a storm. This involved A LOT of sportscars but honestly, I could NEVER fathom I would see THAT many manufacturers in SUCH an interesting formula! FINALLY, we will have the opportunity to do what WAS MEANT to do in CMS in the first place: A FULL PROPER RECREATION OF AN ENTIRE WEC/IMSA grid and we will do it in style with our first race BEFORE any of the actual cars races in real life! Little background:
HYPERCARS - THE CONCEPT
Hypercar rules (LMH & LMDh), are arguably the least prescriptive than any other set of rules in motorsport history. They don't so much as lay down what a manufacturer can and can't do but rather they set out a "performance window" of where you operate.
In addition to that the cars are limited to 670 HP (+/- 30 HP for BOP allotment) and min weight of 1,030 kg. (~ P/W: 0.63). This is A LOT of weight for Sport Prototypes - the highest EVER in fact. Typical ranges were 600 - 900 kg, so this would be new territory. They also have MUCH LESS power than their LMP1 predecessors, which were making ~1,000 HP. The difference here is that the confiments of the "performance window" allow for different ways to attack the same formula (such as the wingless Peugeot, the hybrid/non-hybrid variety, the variation of engines, etc.)
