That looks way better than most I’ve seen, never heard of “dip,” will check Illini out. Just bought 2005 GX 470, wheels r pitted mess & silver gray paint bubbling & flaking. Where your wheels pitted & painted prior? Not sure if I’m dealing w original or someone has painted mine
Yes, they had a factory coating that was silver ish. There was corrosion spots all over them where it was bubbling up, it didn't look good. You can see where I sanded those parts down first. Prep is everything. If you rush it, it will look like you rushed it.
@@GX470PracticalMaintenance thanks, that’s helpful. Seen some people sandblast, some wire brush, mine are 80% bubbled & peeled so prep will be huge. Got a quote today, $750 to refinish all 4. At that $, I’m either doing myself & buying new TRDs for couple hundred more
@@THEelduderino they did come out nice looking! The question is for how long? My gx rims were a mess with bubbles and rust around the sockets. I contemplated doing this but decided for the money it would be better spent on new rims. I was able to get 2018 17" 4runner rims in mint condition for $300 when I got new tires. I preferred the shape to the gx stocks. they are a perfect fit and look awesome! Many people upgrade to bigger wheels in 4runner so they are easy to find
I’ve got an 07 same color, same tires (I’ve got white letters out) the wheels are bubbled to no end. Looks like I’m gonna do the same thing, but I think I’m going to go with black. You just used the regular plasti-dip on the emblems?
Cool! Yeah, take your time and really sand them down well, get all that corrosion off, sand down to good aluminum and good paint. You don't have to get all paint off, just sand away all the bad spots and blend to transition in well so you can't feel it with your eyes closed. Clean them well, wait a day, then alcohol and go. Yes, the rest is just good ole black pastidip in a can. Same thing there, I cleaned it really really well, I used cue tips and alchol to really get in the nooks and crannies of the emblems. So far so good, everything is holding up really well. Go for it! Also, when you use the reglar plasti dip, make sure to give yourself some space around the emblem, then mask. Lay down the same amount of plastidip up to the mask line as everything else, this will make sure you have plenty to grab onto. The worst thing is having too thin plastidip around the side that you can't grab onto and pull with.
I purchased the wheel kit from dipyourcar.com, which comes with 5 cans of hyperdip. I used all the cans. I lined up all the wheels and caps and would paint a coat on all of the them with the same can, over and over, starting a new can when the previous one ran out, and just went until there was no more. This was the advice from dipyourcar, the more coats the better coverage, protection, and ability to peel in the future.
Yesssss!!!! I have been wanting to do this for YEARS!!!!!
WOW!! That end result... Looks SEXY AS HELL!!!! Well Done, Sir.
Looks great! I did this a couple years ago to my GX470 with Rust-Oleum Wheel Paint but this turned out much better than mine! 👍
Looks pretty good!
About due for new tires. Thinking now would be a good time to do this!
Nice job!!!
Great! You shamed me to clean, peel, scuff, prep and do MY GX 470 wheels! They are sooo bad right now…. Those look great! Thanks for the inspiration!
Go get some! Good Luck!
Midas just ruined my spray painted wheels while swapping tires, so I'm excited to try this tomorrow. STAY AWAY FROM THE MIDAS TOUCH!
🔥
Dawn & bar keep !

how many CAN Hyper Dip you Use dip for 4 wheels ?

108+ tax. Seems steep. My local detail/custom shop does full powdercoating for 299.00 (providing your wheels arent curbed/in need of rash repair)
