The whole reason I wanted to find this song was because I heard it in a Bye Bye meme. It went along nicely with the visuals, and upon finding the song and listening to it, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the whole song is a brilliant piece of work. I love it more than the meme I had found
i discovered this song when i almost died with a 42 celsius temperature in my bed, i was having a fever dream. That dream was inappropriate to share but its really f/ck ped up and i woke up with this song playing in shuffle i cant move my body yet its shaking. That whole experience of me not being able to move while this song was playing was the best yet messed up thing i encountered. (this happened to me back in march 2021)
when you're on the bus to school in the morning, it's still dark outside, the yellow orangey street lights being the only source of light besides the bus headlights, listening to this song... it feels so powerful.

The last line is a reference to a guy who made it to the hall of fame, so I'd interpret it meant the lady promised he'd be that famous one day. "He's got a gold Camaro He said over the payphone I try to keep my cool but My life turns in slow motion" -Guy 2 talks about how great it is being famous and rich to Guy 1, who isn't taking it well. Guy 1 is having a breakdown cause Guy 2 is changing and in a bad way. Guy 1 also notes that Guy 2 was calling him on a payphone (perhaps hiding Guy 1 from his other girlfriend and not taking chances calling Guy 1 on his phone?) "I miss him don't you blame me That boy went stone cold crazy Caught up in camera lust he's Chasing that pappy pipe dream" -Guy 1 misses Guy 2 and seems be having a interaction with himself, in which he both blames himself for Guy 2's cheating and thinks its not his fault and is having an internal conflict with himself. Guy 2 became a dick cause of the fame and money and kept going up the latter because of his greed. At this point in the song, the song seems to pick up as if it was going to drop the chorus again, but it seemed abruptly stopped by a noise that resembled a shot gun being pumped. Then it goes calm. "I know you don't but I I know you don't but I still try" -Guy 1 seems broken to me in these next few lines. I imagined Guy 1 looming over Guy 2's body or something while talking these lines. "My thunder shook him down My thunder came and shook him down" -I interpreted Guy 1's "thunder" to be the sound a shotgun makes. He killed Guy 2. "That girl is gone but I That girl is gone but I still try I think it's over now The bullet hit but maybe not" -More lyrics that point to Guy 1 murdering Guy 2. Guy 1 is actually in shock and wondering if he was actually dead. This also sort of hints the girl left Guy 2 as well cause Guy 2 was a dick. "I feel so fucking numb It hits my head and I feel numb My body's looking wrong My body's looking wrong My body's looking wrong" -Guy 1 is in total hysteria. He says hes feeling numb cause of the adrenaline of killing his ex. Or maybe he doesn't feel remorse and he realizes how fucked up that is and is freaking out about it. The music in the background picks up and gives the listener anxiety because that is probably what Guy 1 is experiencing. "Bye bye baby blue I wish you could see the wicked truth" -Guy 1 is saying bye to his own innocence this time I believe. The "wicked truth" being he is now a murderer and doesn't believe he just killed Guy 2. "Caught up in a rush it's killing you Screaming at the sun you blow into Curled up in a grip when we were us Fingers in a fist like you might run" -Adrenaline rush from murder. He remembers the times before any of this happened. I settle for a ghost I never knew Super-paradise I held on to But I settle for a ghost" -He thinks he is being haunted by the ghost of his ex. "Ghost I never knew" refers to his Ex being a different person his lover. He lives his life in constant paranoia.
This song is so hypnotizing. The rhythm is off putting and kinda creepy, and the meaning doesn't make it better, but at the same time it's catchy enough to make you listening to it for hours

The air felt warm and sticky, perfume and sweat mixing into a sickly sweet smell that seeped into his pores. He hated it. The bar was dimly lit, orange light barely illuminating her pink feather coat and glinting off her jumbo hoop earrings. As she breathed out the smoke, removing the cigarette from her mouth, he saw the light briefly catch on the plains of her face. “Fans are getting impatient.” was the first thing she said. Of course she’d jump straight into business, not even a greeting first. “Well hello to you too.” he swished his glass and heard the clink of ice cubes hitting the sides. I’ve always seen this song about two people who grew up together growing distant. Maybe as kids they had many people leave them, and promised they would always stay together. But people change, and sometimes grow distant. I’d say the friend got married and had a kid, “he’d stay and treat his lady. give everything to his new baby” And I guess the singer felt replaced, “I miss him don’t you blame me.” And at first was denying the growing distance between them, before thinking he forgot his promise. “That boy went stone cold crazy.” Later on the singer wouldn’t be able to take it anymore. Yeah, most of Glass Animals songs are like that. With just the phone speaker, there songs sound boring and slow because you can't hear the beat. With good earbuds it's amazing. You should listen to Black Mambo, there's something about it that got my attention when I first listened to it.

Main character went to his home and killed the wife in pure anger. The crush witnesses this and in blind fear, shoots his best friend not knowing it was him. Only after did he realizes this, and now grieves for his wife and for his best friend. Now has to take care of his kid himself.

Smoke curled out from the end of her cigarette. The air felt warm and sticky, perfume and sweat mixing into a sickly sweet smell that seeped into his pores. He hated it. The bar was dimly lit, orange light barely illuminating her pink feather coat and glinting off her jumbo hoop earrings. As she breathed out the smoke, removing the cigarette from her mouth, he saw the light briefly catch on the plains of her face.
“Fans are getting impatient.” was the first thing she said. Of course she’d jump straight into business, not even a greeting first.
“Well hello to you too.” he swished his glass and heard the clink of ice cubes hitting the sides.
A shadow on her face flickered, he thought she must’ve raised her eyebrow.
“The album will be done in a week. Making music is a process, it’s not as easy as the fans might think.”
“Well the fans do think it’s easy, so it better be done soon.” He nodded, bringing his glass up to his lips.
The air was cold, bitterly so. It whipped at his face and hands, the poor uncovered parts of himself. The protection of the telephone booth was a brief relief. Taking a deep breath, he inserted a coin into the machine and punched in a number as familiar as his own limbs. He could probably recite it in his sleep.
The line rang for a moment, before they finally picked up.
“Hey baby.” He said, inserting the confidence of all these months into his voice.
“…Hey,” came the voice of his lover. “How have things been?”
He said with a smirk. “I have a gold Camaro.”
There was a small laugh, and despite coming from his number one supporter throughout the years, it sounded just like the mocking laughter of his parents.
He hung up.
Bright lights flashed in his face, camera shutters going off in unknown corners of this room filled with stage smoke. The lights were a bright orange, now, properly illuminating the stage and the front of the crowd. His fingers were curled tightly into fists. The hundreds of judging stares made his skin crawl- he wanted to run away. He wanted to bask in it. With a sharp toothed grin, he brought the microphone up to his lips. If they wanted a show, he’d give them one.
Thunder struck the ground outside the rattling window panes, but no one was paying any attention to it. That was, until the lights turned off. Then they did.
He had come here to watch his lover perform on stage. But his trembling fingers were covered in blood and so was the ground and so was the gun and- his head felt numb, and it was like he was looking at himself from an outside perspective. His limbs were distorted and all he could see was the liquid scattered on the ground. The blood looked almost blue in this lighting, he thought.
His breaths were coming heavily and sharply now, and he finally snapped back into himself. His body looked so fucking wrong, all twisted and bad and covered in blue. The smoke from the stage drifted in front of his eyes, and as he dazedly turned around he saw a man singing into his mic as he directly looked into flashes of light that seemed brighter than the sun. There was a desperate, unhinged look in his eye.
He remembered when they were “us”. It was funny. Even after losing the other, they both were still too alike. He thought the man had lost it, as he shouted at the audience bathed in dark with pupils blown too wide, but as he laughed at his ex-lover, he realised that so had he.

I’ve always seen this song about two people who grew up together growing distant. Maybe as kids they had many people leave them, and promised they would always stay together. But people change, and sometimes grow distant.
I’d say the friend got married and had a kid, “he’d stay and treat his lady. give everything to his new baby”
And I guess the singer felt replaced, “I miss him don’t you blame me.” And at first was denying the growing distance between them, before thinking he forgot his promise. “That boy went stone cold crazy.”
Later on the singer wouldn’t be able to take it anymore. He _promised_ he would never leave her, and shes going to make him keep it. “I know you don’t but I, I know you don’t but I still try” She’s willing to do anything to keep them together, “my thunder shook him down, my thunder came and shook him down” he becomes nervous around her, trying to brush off her weird behaviour but being unable to. “That girl is gone but I, that girl is gone but I still try” I think of this as the narrator admitting that she’s changed too, but she doesn’t care. Even if they’ve both changed it doesn’t matter, they promised. They’ll remain friends. It doesn’t matter if its unhealthy, it doesn’t matter if they’re unhappy, it doesn’t matter if one of them is dead.
But our singer turns out to be the dead one “I think it’s over now, the bullet hit but maybe not.” I imagine this is the friend fighting back.
