  • This is a fascinating fan. It did not disappoint when I looked inside. Nothing was broken...just a video for curiosity. This is a very good fan! This is a Lasko 40 Inch Hybrid Tower Fan 4443, which has 3 powerful speeds (and 30% more air delivery than standard tower fans); widespread oscillation; a remote (requires 2 AAA batteries, not included) that can be stored on-board the fan; a nightlight feature; a carrying handle; and a patented, fused safety plug. Thanks for watching!!!

The fan has 2 intakes to maximize airflow into the unit. If it were only drawing air in one side it would be limited by the surface area of the one side. Also the motor side benefits from the airflow over it and drawing away heat generated by the motor. The 3 sided screw-head you would see if you look around an airplane. They are often in the cabin areas to discourage tampering.

I just discovered this channel and I'm so grateful. I have a 3 y/o that loves to know how things work and see what's inside everyday objects and it is so hard to find family freindly videos! He's developed a sudden interest in tower fans, so this video and the Pelonis video have been awesome for him. Thank you!

I have this fan for 5 years and still going strong, I use it during the summer and winter basically it never gets turned off, My only problem is cleaning the fly wheel is there a way to remove it to dump in water to clean? Oh and the security screw is easy to take off with small drill bit.

The "tube" as you call it in the first unit is called a tangential blower.
Thanks for the upload, I had wondered what was in one of these. It is effectively just a vertical plenum that steps down in size, kind of like the stepped spiral duct used in some businesses.

+AutistiVision The motor was hard to find in the Hybrid Tower Fan.? It might be in the front side of the tower fan that controls the oscillation. Do you think that you can try to find it and do an update video of it?

This unit may benefit from washable intake filters, such as what furnaces use, or even coarse 3M Scotch-Brite pads (also use for pc intake fans).

I found one of these in junk pile. I took it home and found it ran too slow. I replaced the capacitor and now it runs perfectly. Must be a common problem because I saw many similar complaints on Amazon.

The future of fans! LOVED this video since I FINALLY got to see how this thing along with the HVB from Lasko actually works (They both have the same structure!)! Thanks for making this video! I always wanted to see how some fan like this works because I'm a fan of fans myself! Now I'm considering getting myself not this particular model but the HVB model since the HVB model blows more air. Again, thanks for making this video! Also be sure to drop by my RUclips channel "KDS Official" to see some really cool stuff I've been making!

The bade design on the "tube" model is called a "squirrel cage" design. Same for the Lasko. They are very very quiet and move lots of air compared to a standard blade design. Here's a post regarding how Lasko manufactures their 3, 4 or 5 speed fans in any design. They all have a loud hum noise that is not part of the motor. The too loud and unconventional hum noise comes from the power supply/electronics main board they use which is likely poor quality but does the "job" of moving air without considering the unusual buzzing/humming noise which is no good for quiet rooms such as bedrooms. You can hear it in many Lasko videos on RUclips.
On the third exchange of the S18965 model within 3 weeks, we decided to write. Not that great a fan, by engineering standards. It does look good and have nice features/design. The power supply/electronics board makes a loud hum noise when slowed to any speed other than high. It also doesn't have a very "slowest" speed and makes too much noise and wind on the lowest speed. Some of the pedestal design (post and base) magnifies the hum noise from the fan head unit. Other than this unnecessary noise and inability to run at slower speeds, a great fan. We took ours back due to this. Lasko needs to re-engineer the power supply/main circuit board with better components to minimized the hum and design better speed ratios from high to the lower speed settings. This fan design is very loud and not good for bedrooms or rooms that need quiet. Truly, the inside parts on Lasko fans are poor quality. We have other brand fans that don't make any motor noises at all other than the noise from the fan blade itself. Listening to that hum sound is very backwards.

I have a Dayton 3 speed oscillating 12" that I bought in 1976. It is quiet as a mouse and still works like new to this day. Dayton is a great brand USA made however, they are mostly industrial these days.
