    What AMAZES me is when a toxin is known as "tasteless" meaning someone did taste these things. RIP.

    A few years ago my dad came down suddenly very ill. At first it appeared to be a stroke, but in less than 12 hours from symptoms he had to go on assisted breathing and was showing general signs of paralysis. Then they were worried about botulism. It is exceedingly rare, except in cases involving my dad's hobby: home canning. So they put him on medications for that, and I gave the health department a sample jar of everything he had. Turns out it wasn't botulism though, but a very rare disease and an especially severe type of auto-immune illness called "Graves' disease." Speaking of R.I.P.'s and other unfortunately named science terms. It's been 3 years, he's alive but his getting better means being able to go 20-30ft with a walker.

    • @otterspotter
      @otterspotter Год назад

      Addressing those comments, I am fundamentally aware that botulism is not caused by the bacteria it's named after. but by an after-product of its metabolism. Thanks all the same. Botulism is still scary are all fuck, and it was scary when my dad was suspected of having it. It's no laughing matter.

      Lead poisoning was at its highest between the 1930s and 1970s due to leaded gasoline being widely used at the time and since the lead came from car exhausts from roads, going outside (especially near any type of roads) increased the chances of lead poisoning rather than staying inside, guess which generation was raised in the 1970s? Leaded gasoline has long been outlawed in almost every country so lead poisoning is a lot more rarer than it was before.

    Point of order: Botulism isn't caused directly by the bacterium, but by a toxin produced by it. Clostridium botulinum is also a strict anaerobe, which means the tiniest amount of oxygen will kill it, so an infection is extremely unlikely.
    FYI, this toxin is the same chemical used in BoTox injections, so yeek😨

    I seem to remember watching a documentary on Roman emperor Nero that cataloged his litany of bad behavior and awful deeds, one of which was poisoning his stepbrother (who was next in line for the throne). In this documentary, toxicologists looked at the poisons available during Nero's time and determined that the three most likely options were cyanide, strychnine, and hemlock. The toxicologists agreed that while cyanide is found in fruit pits, you'd need quite a few of them for it to be lethal, and it would be very noticeable that something had been slipped into the drink.

    21:15: The graphic depicted is wrong. Yes, the ricin was shot into the calf muscle of Georgi Markov by a modified umbrella, but it was NOT a pointed dart. It was a spherical "bb", drilled out on one side to create a cavity, that was filled with ricin. When the assassin jabbed the umbrella into Markov's calf, he fired off the mechanism, placing the ricin-laden bb under Markov's skin. The idea was to make it seem like the assassin had accidentally jabbed Markov's leg with the point of his umbrella as he strolled along, apologizing for doing so, and Markov thinking nothing more of it, until he walked away, and suddenly collapsed, the assassin vanishing into the crowd, never to be caught. This umbrella, or one of its type, is Russian-made, and is on display in the CIA museum.

    All very interesting. I've never been keen on fish for exactly these reasons. As for 'accidental' poisoning, how about going into the burnt-out shell of western Europe's largest covered space which had previously contained military ammunition and which had burned continuously for about 5 years before finally exhausting itself? You used to be able to see the smoke coming out of it from a hilltop miles away and the fire was so large that there was no way to deal with it other than letting it burn out. I know somebody who was sent in with electrical contractors afterwards to set about stripping out and refitting electricals. The walls were covered with dust containing depleted uranium from tank shells. This person developed lipomas, one of which will eventually paralyse him, as it's wrapped around his spinal column and has been growing gently for 30-plus years. What a lovely prognosis to receive in your early 20s - he has been experiencing effects increasingly as he ages and it is inoperable (surgery would paralyse him anyway). His GP - upon being shown some of these lumps 30 years ago - asked if he'd been exposed to heavy metals.... Defence authorities of course will never admit that such poisoning took place and there is this thing called Crown Immunity as well - you can't prosecute them even if it's patently obvious that they were responsible for something unfortunate. Military personnel sent to invade Kuwait / Iraq were exposed to similar poisoning - it's well documented.

    One time years ago, I had just moved out of my house. We weren’t allowed in the attic because it had lead in it and was dangerous. The people we bought it from said “oh don’t worry as long as you stay outta the attic it’ll be fine” well not long after moving out my mom started to feel different. So we all went to an odd doctor. Then a few days later we all did some sort of foot bath at the doctors place? It made the water a difference color. Then apparently we were unlead poisoned? Idk I sometimes have very vivid and realistic dreams (I’ve begged my mom to go to non existent playground and I used to be convinced that I could drive when I was six because I had a reoccurring dream about driving). Is this a dream or was that something that actually happened? Are doctors like that real? I feel like it was before I really knew what lead was so it seems odd that I’d dream that but idk.

    Last week at the university I’m attending, in our class of zoology I learned about the actual purpose of why all amphibians produce these poisons on their skin, there are some that really do use it against predators etc, but those have them in their glads behind their ears. But all of amphibians are poisonous, even those that aren’t actually as poisonous to us, it’s because of how they need their skin to be constantly at least a bit wet, fungi are going to be easier to grow on their skin which to frogs and other amphibians can be extremely toxic. I found it an interesting fact, so I thought I’d share it while we were on the topic of frog poison

    Mercury as a (pure) metal is quite harmless in itself. Yes, it's toxic, but in this form the body can hardly absorb it if any at all. So a drop of ordinary mercury is not a big deal. However, once it's in an organic compound (dimethyl or methylmercury e.g.) IS incredibly dangerous, because it's much easier absorbed.

    I've got some 72mg/ml nicotine from before it was limited. I used to make my own juice in the early days of vaping and that was the limit per ml at the time, but was easily ordered off the internet with no restrictions and no safety literature. At that concentration even the vapour from the bottle can be lethal, so I used to wear a cartridge mask and have a fan blowing out the window. What I thought would be an economy was a massive pain in the butt as a single drop was sufficient for a comparatively large amount of eliquid, but consistency was difficult to achieve at that concentration, and the danger of using it was significant. It's a lot more dangerous than people appreciate!
    Even at standard eliquid concentrations of 3-20mg/ml it causes skin damage if you spill it on skin and don't wash it off immediately. Took me a few months of using early vapes to figure out why I had so much damage to the skin on my hands, and pretty much all early vape hardware leaked like a mofo lol. For the average person, the sealed vape pens are a better option than messing about with nicotine bearing liquids.
    Edit: Also the UK version for baked beans is:
    Beans beans, good for the heart
    The more you eat, the more you fart
    The more you fart, the more you eat
    The more you sit on the toilet seat.

    Nicotine gets a bad wrap. I have been vaping for 9 years. Most vapors use nicotine at 3 to 6% per ml. When I do not vape there is no withdrawal like a cigarette I do not get the knife in the chest I got without cigarettes.
    It has some good benefits it helps with dimension and neuropathy. The addictive part of smoking is not the nic but something else that is
    not in E-liquid. Thank you great channel.

    • @Silver_79
      @Silver_79 Год назад

      Just a quick point of order…that’s a .3 to .6%
      If you actually vaped 6% from a sub tank or a dripper, you would at the very least get nic sick…..This is why disposables (which use a 5% salt nic) operate between 8-12 watts depending on the device/brand.
      Having said all that, the video is correct. Nicotine sold in bulk for DIY stuff which is usually 100mg, is VERY dangerous if you don’t know what you’re doing.
