- Saving sheep from the rising river levels and flooding, a lamb gets its head stuck, tyre blows off on the road bad luck really does come in threes today. Family farming day. Children bossing the sheep jobs.
in 2009 i had no experience of farming or the realities that came with it. That soon changed when I met my other half Roy, I had a job as a carer and in every spare moment threw myself into farming. I had only ever driven a Nissan Micra and had experience with horses, I learnt the hard way as nobody had the time to show me and soon after arriving I found myself mothering on calves to three quarter bred limmy cows. We spent every available moment on the farm between our day jobs. Fast forward to 2016 two children later we moved into our very own farm overlooking the northern Pennines, Laitha.
we are in a transitional period at present and will finally be milking cows and making the final switch later this year, after years of planning and implementing infrastructure we will be milking 120 Jersey cows on two Lely robots. This will be a huge change and a steep learning curve

I am overjoyed to be a farmer. I feel so fortunate every day to wake up and do what I love and even better share it with the world and hope it inspires more young people from Preston to spread their wings and think outside the box the world doesn’t need more childcare workers or hairdressers it needs more farmers.

Weather is shocking bad here too floods everywhere ,walkers warned to stay off land as its to soft and flooded imagine people need to be told that these days 😂common sense most have been a generational thing 😂😂😂😂great to see kids not afraid of the sheep etc

We are in the Ribble valley in Lancashire and our weather is from the west when it's wet mainly. I remember a few years ago when Appleby and no doubt other places where flooded out. Eden valley is a black spot for flooding.

We never used to "name" storms. We've had crap weather all my life ( and I'm old). Naming storms is just pretentious.
you could do with getting your ditchs dug out it would make huge improvement charlotte
Our ditches are dug :) and funnily enough it made it ten times worse it increased the flow of water and when it hit a pipe that drains into the beck across a field the pipe couldn’t cope and it overran into a recently ploughed field and left a huge hole with the force of the water 😖😖😖
Had a really crap day ( rain, water , tree down, electricity gone for hours) though I’d just have a look at your post for a bit of light entertainment before bed and then I find that even the most upbeat farmer on the net is having a bad day and crabby, strangely I don’t feel so bad now, night night.

Actually I had a vet student here for a couple of months during lambing and he was a bit ocd and recorded every birth, death etc. the upshot was that he was able to inform me that the over whelming majority of deaths were due to either murder or suicide disease and climate were a distant third and forth

Hi Charlotte and Roy, what is going on with the rain? I think the farmers in your area have had enough rain now. Your roads and fields are turning into at a huge muddy mess, pity for the animals. Wynn did a good job hearding the sheep through all the mud and water, she is getting the hang of it. It was good to see you teaching your kids the delicate art of moving sheep through gates and they past with flying colours.There is so many vlogers complaining about the 'keyboard warriors' saying stupid comments and criticising stuff they know nothing about. There needs to be a way that you can 'block them' just like youtube does to you if they don't like something you have posted. Unfortunately we cant control 'stupid' in people, hopefully they will get the message and rack off. The beat shredder is doing a great job and its another good food source you are adding to the cows diet. I suggest not to put your wellies and raincoats away just yet. Hope the rain eases for you and your neighbours in the coming days to let the water levels drop and you avoid the main river bursting its banks.
Regarding the use of an external mic, even in the weather today, the camera mic dealt with it pretty well - the bigger issue was with fading in the music sound track right as you were saying something interesting and informative (I know right, the one moment you were not sprouting bobbins (copyright: every moaning minnie on farming forum) you managed to edit yourself out!)
I need editing out 😂😂😂 I know exactly the moment you mean I’ve just watched it myself I said the closest was a drain that’s overflowing and the overflowing river at the back is actually a stream called the luzbeck, suppose that makes it a beck not a stream 😂😂

Hi Charlotte hope you don’t think I am one of those idiots but why can’t you turn the beet chopper through 90 degrees you would then be able to empty underneath easily as you would have the wall to push against and you would not have to drive around the tractor and save a bit of time merry Christmas
Ha ha ha not at all we will do honestly we shoved it there and Roy’s mum died the day after so we kinda gave up on it a bit need some sleepers to put it on to raise it up but then the bobcat wouldn’t reach and it would be a merlo job, think we thought the tractor would be so much wider but thinking about it it didn’t have to be right next to the wall 🤔 ehh we will change it

One qenuine question could you put silage threw the the beet chopper at the same time and reduce wear and tear on the Keenan ??? As you have to fluff the silage up anyway so if the beet choppers running chuck half and half through for kind of premises to the ration ? And what would the pros and cons be of doing so please?
I honestly don’t really know what would happen I don’t know if it would block up maybe break a shear bolt but I get what you mean. Our Keenan is only on a short time some guys have to leave them running for ages to get a perfect consistent feed ours isn’t quite that technical :)
WOW you have had some rain Charlotte, have you had the high winds, am over on the east coast at Berwick and its been heavy rain and gail force winds that has now calmed down for now, reckon more at the weekend into the new year

Nooo we have been on the other side of the coin and effected by flooding we see it a bit as or responsibility to do it anyway to protect towns.. BUT ours recedes in a day and it’s easy to manage other people will think differently
