I was 14 and remember I could close my eyes when listening to Solie call a match and actually see the moves. I felt like it was the 1930's - 40's before TV when they listened to sports on the radio. A true talent and boon to the wrestling business.
We didn't get the NWA in NY except for Championship Wrestling from Florida on UHF. It's the only show my parents would let me stay up that late to watch(we didn't have a VCR) and Solie was the voice. I'd watch WWWF at midnight on Saturdays and Vince was garbage compared to Solie. You could tell they were talking to their core audience though. NWA were "wrestling" fans. WWWF was alot louder and built more for the Northeast. Solie was the GOAT
TWO legends right here! This was from a time when guys in the business LIVED it....it was who they really were - not a gimmick to turn off when out of the ring or away from cameras. Solie was truly the Howard Cosell of wrestling commentary and Race was as real a wrestler as there ever was. Thanks for the memories!RIP men!
*Wow how far have we fallen. Champions before the WWF expansion made their belts look important.* Only now we truly understand why the territorial system worked wonders back in the day across North America.
Harley Race was one of the most straightforward and honest people I've ever listened to. And if he said he was going to do something you could damn well take it to the bank that he was going to do it. There was only one Harley Race. A true world champion.
Exactly. men had'em but you knew they were either; huge Bikers/Hell's Angels, Ex-Marines/Army, or former sailors. Or those who came from unique ancient tribes etc. Today every pansy got tons of tattoos covering 85% of themselves up, but they'd cry at a moment's notice if they got into a real physical fight!
I also was thinking how taboo it was to have tattoos back then. It was like you were a legitimate tough guy if you had one. Now they are trendy and hipstery.
In 1979, a new pro wrestling publication hit newsstands and magazine racks across the nation. It was Pro Wrestling Illustrated. When the first issue went to press, Harley Race was the National Wrestling Alliance World's Heavyweight Champion.
To me Harley Race is one of the finest world champions that's ever set foot in the ring with classic battles in his career defeating both Dory Funk Jr and Terry Funk for the World Heavyweight Championship he is a true legend in professional wrestling

Iron Claw the movie did this man a disservice because the actor looked SPOT ON for Harley but he had the voice of a damn animated squirrel! He didn’t get the intensity across nor did he have the gruff attitude and demeanor of Harley. Another thing that I was upset about is they didn’t get Harleys signature tattoo on his arm. This is the 8 time champ we are talking about! Hell, that man needs his own movie! Along with Hogan…speaking of which….🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️whatever happened to that? Looking at you Hemsworth!
Let me tell you how legit tough Harley Race is. Andre The Giant once said there were two guys he would never mess with. One was Haku the 2nd was Harley Race.
The problem with wrestling today isn't the talent. There are some very talented young wrestlers in the world right now. It's everything else that is wrong with wrestling
That's because Harley was damn good and he knew it and so did every fan, every promoter and his peers. He didn't need Meltzer's stars like The Bucks and Omega do because if it werent for Meltzer they would be nobodies. And notice that this video epitomizes sports based wrestling. AEW or WWE is nowhere close to this. They are just cheap imitations of each other. This generation is why I have stopped watching wrestling. I have downloaded all the old matches I could get my hands on and I enjoy that because that's pure pro wrestling......

Gordon Solie's voice IS wrestling for us older folks!

No question about it
I agree and I’d pay top dollar for a reproduction of Gordon’s shirt or any of his neck ties.

"I don't care how old Harley is, he'll still knock the shit out of you." - Kevin Nash
I'd love to see Nash go a hour with Harley
Can't now. He's dead.
Off camera, he was a legitimate bad ass, according to past and present wrestlers
IMHO, the greatest broadcaster ever with one of the greatest wrestler's EVER.
Not just your opinion, but fact.
Edged in stone fact
Amen
the baddest man on the planet. both in and outside of the ring

The belt actually looked like it meant something back then. And this guy doesn't look like he is playing a "character" or a "gimmick".
This is the greatest promo ever. love you Harley!
Harley Race certainly had the makings of a varsity athlete.
Bobby heenan said andre the giant was afraid of 2 wrestlers i.e Haku n Harley Race that proves how tough harley was
The funny is Harley bodyslammed him way before Hogan
RIP Harley. Legends Never Die
Pure gold stuff. No idea who the hell can dislike this...
Psycho Machinery Dusty Rhodes. ; )
Ric Flair. Then he got scared and tried to take it back.
RIP Harley Race! Legit tough and forever respected!!
He looks like robert "quint" shaw from Jaws
He'd beat Quint up and then take on the shark!
The shark would jump out of the water, Harley would say "did you say something " and the shark would say "no sir" and jump back in the water.
Race a champion he never quick what ever a man can believe and conceive he can achieve.
If Harley was in jaws the movie would be named Harley because he'd kill jaws in the first 5 mins. Of the movie.
He would’ve saved that cute blonde Chrissy, and run that shark out of the tertitory....
Great video......takes me back to those wonderful days of "Territory Wrestling"! Miss that part of Da Bidness! Cheers all
Wow does this bring back the memories!
harley race looks like he will kill a man
+Douglas Jones If he said that, I'd believe him.
Him LOOKING can kill a man
He was a badass. If you tried to fuck with him in the ring he would turn it into a shoot in nothing flat.
Harley Race looks like he will EAT a man.
Back when you had to be a legitimate badass to have tattoos
Yup....and nowadays pussies like Bieber can have tattoos as well....

Harley Race was The Man!

Harley Race was a great champion and great talker in the ring.
Greatness
RIP Mr. Solie and Mr. Race
I miss hearing Gordon Solie...
And titles seemed to mean more...
For those who don't know, Harley left home at the age of 16 and began wrestling at carnivals.
Tuff as Nails !
Gordon Solie is legend (:
I first heard Gordon Solie in 1969 when I was 14
He would go on to hold the title 6 more times.
Rip legend.
Two times world champion.Back when the title meant something.
Ah the GREAT Gordon Solie!
RIP Harley you was one of the best.
Harley was 32 in interview.
I wish Harley was alive and in his prime to stretch Kenny Omega
That's a great promo heel or face.
Used to love watch Florida Championship Wrestling on Saturdays back in the early to mid 70's.
He'd kick Quint and the Sharks ass!
Harley was one of the toughest men walking.
Kids, this man right here is the definition of "bad ass son of a bitch".
You can see where HHH got his whole swag, Harley was him
Harley was a big guy.
The Dean Of Wrestling Cometary
The problem with wrestling today isn't the talent. There are some very talented young wrestlers in the world right now. It's everything else that is wrong with wrestling
one of the baddest men of all time
Who would win between Harley and Minoru if both were in their primes?
Suzuki would win a shoot wrestling match but would last seconds in a brawl.
Harley Race
"The greatest wrestler on God's Green Earth "
R.I.P
Harley Race
1943-2019
Damm skippy probably race is one of the best NWA world champions
Harley race=pure champion!!
If Gordon Solie said 3 wrestlers were flying in from Jupiter to be in a Texas Boot Match at the Omni in Atlanta....then it would be FACT.
I was born on February 6, 1977.
Just like Harley, your parents must have vowed to have a child to celebrate Harley winning the NWA title again. Great planning
2 legends!
The Great Harley Race
RIP to the ultimate legend of the wrestling business..
harley race dude just look at him a playef this video over and over again he means wat he says
Harley Race never had to a meltzer driver
That's because Harley was damn good and he knew it and so did every fan, every promoter and his peers. He didn't need Meltzer's stars like The Bucks and Omega do because if it werent for Meltzer they would be nobodies.

Harley Race would demolish those guys
Harley was the best
Black man mr race was one hell of a man
He was 34
The greatest wrestler on God's green earth
Harley Race, the greatest Wrestler on god's green earth!!!
Harley Race, NOT Ric Flair or Hulk Hogan, was the epitome & persona of a world champion. Just my opinion.
God's green earth
Watching this and it's like..
What the fuck happened with wrestling?
Kayfabe died
Michael Holland
The likes were at 666, I fixed it.
