Lyrics❤ How, how can it be that a love Carved out of caring, fashioned by fate Could suffer so hard From the games played much too often? Musician here. This song is a musical masterpiece. The out of time lyrics and the fact the following verse starts before the end of the bar is incredible. It’s all interlinked. We studied this song at music school….
In the summer of 1987, my dad and I listened to this cassette tape single over and over on a drive from Pensacola FL to New Orleans LA. My dad loved it and kept requesting it.😂. RIP Dad❤
LOVE this song! Born in 1967. It was awesome growing up then. The music was so positive...such optimism across the West. Little did we know everything we knew...our cultures and all that went with it, would be headed for destruction. Europe, the UK and the USA is hardly recognizable anymore. I sure miss it.
Yes the 80s were filled with amazing music. But what's even cooler is that while growing up then, we all knew it and reveled in it. These amazing songs permeated every part of our young lives and memories in those years. It's not like "we didn't realize how good we had it", in fact we did, we really did.
Dropped my cat off at the vet to get his hurt leg amputated😢then sadly went shopping at Trader Joe’s this song was playing. Made me optimistic. He’s fully healed now.
Driving with my sister in the first car I ever paid for myself at sixteen way back in 86. When I had all of my family within arms reach. Music really have the effect of making you remember when you are young but it also has the power to make you remember what you have lost.
always thought his yellow plaid suit and derby hat would be a helluva good costume for halloween party of 80's folks like me. man i miss those days, so simple, no phones, no internet, people talked, great music
Fkin love this song. The Joker-esqe character that hates lovers, always stood out to me and made this video Iconic. Anytime this came on MTV, or later, VH1, Id always stop what I was doing and watch.
Brings back such fond memories of the 80's. If I could go back and have a do over, there would be two things I would have done differently, and my life would not be so screwed up right now.
54 year old here. ‘If’ is the middle word in life. A Buddhist monk once told me to not trust the past, we only see what we want to see (hindsight is 20/20). You’re here now. Now also defines your future. Be well.🙏
We always say our parents have the best music ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We are only 17yr/20yr and let us tell you something, we loooooove all of our parents music selections............
I was 21 years old when I saw this MTV one afternoon. I was struck but the amazing music & strange & quirky video. All these years later still great. Thank you Level 42!
To the younger viewers out there....did you notice the train scene...(before i phones)??? people either read or listened to music via a walkman radio and headphones....or simply day dreamed or watched other people on the train!!....or just sat alone in their own thoughts!! Hard to believe how things have changed since the era in the music video!!...(1985)
One of the best bands ever put together. The late 60's and early 70's re-wrote the script for music, and the 80's captured it in an explosion of incredible talent that crossed all lines. Even the Boomer Bands re-emerged with fantastic come back albums (Clapton, Cocker, and many more).
Every day for the last week I keep playing this video. I am remembering the summer of '86 when it came out in the US. I was 21..... one of the best times of my life. To my first love Mark, if by chance you see this, I am thinking of you listening to this song.
Cherie Lughi actually had me watching this VERY catchy and still classic 1985 music video over and over again -- I was convinced that she was American actress Annie Potts for a good few weeks! An ICONIC 80's video definitely in my top 10 videos of all time due to: #1 five-star song, performance and production #2 it's a "snapshot" video of when MTV actually did music videos😊👍

This song...being a teen, Laying on my bed with my little ole radio with fm/ am know, 1 speaker "boom box" singing away, having my very own concert 😊 I need that kind of peace cause into my 50s starting to feel like, what if.....

Lyrics❤
How, how can it be that a love
Carved out of caring, fashioned by fate
Could suffer so hard
From the games played much too often?
But making mistakes is a part
Of life's imperfections
Born of the years
Is it so wrong to be human after all?
Oh, drawn into the stream
Of undefined illusion
Those diamond dreams
They can't disguise the truth
That there is something about you
Baby, so right
I wouldn't be without you
Baby, tonight
If ever our love was concealed
No one can say that we didn't feel
A million things
And a perfect dream of life
Gone, fragile, but free
We remain tender together
If not so in love, it's not so wrong
We're only human after all
Oh, these changing years
They add to your confusion
Oh, you need to hear
The time that told the truth
Because there's something about you, baby, so right (and now the way you are tonight)
I couldn't live without you, baby, tonight (I couldn't live without you)
And now there's something about you, yeah
And I couldn't live without you, tonight
... and pinned 🤗
❤❤❤❤❤❤
When this song came out, I didn't think of it as a new song,, I only cared that it was just music. Good music to listen to.
Thank you!
Tyvm for lyrics in your comment.
Great memories of summer of '86! Where did the time go?!
Sir ~ Time went into our head. That you 'remember' this song indicates it - and your memories and intricacies - are permanent. Good for you.
Missing the 80s 😢 83 baby here

@@McRocket I know exactly what you mean!
Ngl, I'm having the roughest time as GenX's and this nostalgia. The 80's were so romantic...
Endeavor to persevere❤
I realize every generation says their days were the best, but for me, the 80's will always be in my heart.
Hang in there, friend. We're in the same boat.

2024 and still awesome song.
I fully concur . ❤
There was a lot of great music made in the 80’s. Really under appreciated decade. I’ve always loved this song.

Dad had excellent taste. May he rest in peace.
This album is a big reason why I play the bass guitar. Mark King is one of the greats.
Keep on playing. That's awesome! Mark is a great bass player.
Of course, their greatest bass performances are usually not in their 'hit' songs.
Certainly
I saw Level 42 in concert this year. An amazing live performance. Same skill and energy. Mark King was on fire.💫
Yep. Me too.
A time without smart phones and FB. No social media platforms to turn us all into zombies. Thinking of the 80s, I feel liberated.
